As the saying goes, you are entitled to your own opinion, but NOT your own facts. We've reached our annual allotment of deluded and quickly deleted comments from Genarlow Wilson supporters so Oh yes, its about time we had another Genarlow Wilson refresher post.
For those who are unfamiliar with ALL OF THE FACTS surrounding Genarlow Wilson's behavior which led to his arrest and conviction, the narrative goes something like this "poor little Genarlow Wilson, honor student and athlete was on his way to college when he had a romantic evening with his underage girlfriend and then the mean old State of Georgia threw him in jail for an act of youthful precociousness." - NOT TRUE. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
In order to get Mr. Wilson out of jail, his apologists has to wipe out the existence of a 17-year old girl and try to portray the 15 year old girl as Mr. Wilson's "girlfriend." They neglect to point out that Mr. Wilson passed his purported "girlfriend" around the room to his buddies.
So in review here is a description of the evidence from a lawyer who was in the courtroom during the trial. HE actually saw the videotape Genarlow Wilson MADE of his actions that evening:
The videotape was "Exhibit A" because it depicts a horrific crime: a gang rape of a semi-conscious, 17-year-old girl, followed by a bizarre display of sexual precociousness by a 15-year-old girl. That's the truth recorded by Genarlow and his friends that fateful night. I suspect that is also why Ms. Bernstein hated it whenever McDade used it to rebut her version of Genarlow's crime.
No matter how much (two glasses of Cognac) the 17-year-old may have had to drink, no matter how much she may have flirted with those boys, she did not consent to having sex with all of them, one right after the other. Yet it never occurred to the "smart" and "spiritual" Genarlow to say, "Stop it. We should not be doing this." No. Genarlow watched, waited and gladly took his turn. When they were through raping her, Genarlow helped his friends drag the comatose victim to the bathroom. They opened the door, pushed her in, watched as she fell to the floor and closed the door. I guess she wasn't much fun anymore. SOURCE
Not content to spring him from jail, his supporters then went on to try to craft him into some type of heroic figure. That's like me being labeled heroic after driving around high water barricades into a swollen creek and getting stuck and having a search and rescue team come and get me out.
They threw him parades.
Tom Joyner gave him a full scholarship to Morehouse College.
A recent and ridiculously lengthy comment from a Wilson apologist actually reminded me that he existed and reminded me that the Black community took two teenage Black girls and threw them under the bus, backed the bus up and then ran over them again and again. Thanks for the nudge to Google Mr. Wilson and check on his current exploits... my findings were quite disturbing.
Apparently, with the assistance of Tom Joyner and a publicist, Mr. Wilson has fashioned himself some type of sexual assault motivational speaker.... No, I'm not kidding. Mr. Wilson is running all over the country speaking to young children about sexual violence, but he's not telling them that he thinks is perfectly fine to have sex with unconscious teenage girls. He's not telling them that he thinks its perfectly fine to manipulate and coerce younger girls into performing sex acts on he and his buddies for his amusement.
NO, the message he's spreading is that if you are going to violate and abuse teenage girls, make sure you check the law books first. Again, I'm not exaggerating or being hyperbolic at all. Listen to this (skip to minute 10, the host is long-winded) interview Mr. Wilson conducted on Blog Talk Radio.
In addition, apparently the students at Winder Barrow High School in Atlanta, GA are being "taught" about Mr. Wilson and are requesting that he come speak to them. Um, who is teaching about Mr. Wilson and what are they teaching and will those with a different perspective be given equal time? I'm incredibly disturbed that children are being indoctrinated revere a sexual predator. Likewise its the height of irresponsible for school teachers or administrators to be encouraging high school students to engage with a man who thinks its okay to have sex with semiconscious teenage girls on Twitter. Do the parents of the students at Winder Barrow know their children are being encouraged to interact with a convicted statutory rapist?
According to the interview posted above, in addition to engaging with high school students on Twitter he's speaking to children in school in the south. Who thought this was a good idea?
Perhaps most disturbing is that Allstate sponsored an event where Mr. Wilson was touted as some type of motivational youth speaker.
Motivational for youth to do what?
What behavior by Genarlow Wilson should be modeled by young children?
Should they model picking up an unconscious girl from a bathroom floor, throwing her on a bed and then running a train on her before dumping her back on the floor?
Should they model making a sex tape featuring underage girls?
Should they model telling a younger girl that she's their girlfriend, enticing her into coming to a hotel room, providing liquor and drugs before having her perform sex act on all of your friends?
Should they model treating drug use and drinking as more severe than treating other human beings like semen receptacles?
Allstate Customers
If you are a reader who is an Allstate customer, please inquire TODAY and ask your agent the following questions:
Is it the policy of Allstate to pay to provide a platform to a man who thinks its okay for a group of boys to have sex with semi/unconscious girls? If not, why did you sponsor an event where Genarlow Wilson was a speaker?
Is it the policy of Allstate to support making sex tapes featuring teenage girls?If not, why did you sponsor an event where Genarlow Wilson was a speaker?
Is it the policy of Allstate to support the rationalization, dehumanization and objectification of teenage Black girls? If not, why did you sponsor an event where Genarlow Wilson was a speaker?
Are you aware that Mr. Wilson is promoting his connection to Allstate prominently on his public Twitter feed and in photos on his public Facebook page?
Did you make arrangements for alternative viewpoint related to Mr. Wilson's actions on the night of the incident which led to his incarceration to be provided to the audience? Did you make arrangements for either of Mr. Wilson's victims to speak?
That's fine. If Allstate wants to associate closely with Genarlow Wilson, then men and women who do not support rape culture need to disassociate your premium dollars with Allstate.
Don't hoot and holler, just ask the questions and ask them to look into it. This is totally and completely indefensible so surely Allstate will work to insure that this never. happens. again.
Tom Joyner can do whatever he wants to with his money, but its not right for Allstate to use the money you give to them for insurance premiums to legitimize an unrepentant sexual predator.
In the future if they sponsor an event featuring Mr. Wilson, then they should demand that equal time be provided to provide the rest of the facts surrounding his incarceration.
I'll stop writing about Mr. Wilson when his supporters stop coming to this blog LYING and attempting to use this platform to coverup his BAD ACTS. This blog does not support rape culture and neither should you.
For Christmas, I would love it if one of my readers obtained the full case file from the Georgia Supreme Court. It should contain exhibits and trial transcripts. That information needs to be made public so that people can really understand who they are supporting when they run around defending the actions of Genarlow Wilson.

I think my feelings regarding Genarlow Wilson's enabler, Tom Joyner, have been well documented, but the departure of Tavis Smiley has left an opening an apparently there is some kind of contest to replace Tavis. Since there is a dearth of African American women's voices, especially on NATIONALLY syndicated radio dealing with political issues, I wish her luck. Maybe she can ask him why he didn't provided full scholarships to the two girls who were in that hotel room with Genarlow Wilson.
