AL Sharpton was on DL Hughley's CNN Show, D L Hughley Makes the News, which shall forever be known on THIS BLOG as DL Hughley Makes me Snooze. I am probably the only person that understood why their conversation was talking around an elephant in theroom. Its because these two individuals can't stand each other, so why were they playing so nice on CNN? Lets have a recap shall we...

It does not matter whether the person making the statement is black, white or from any other race. Nor does it matter whether the intent of the comment is a lame attempt at humor, a racist attack, or in the case of Mr. Hughley, an obvious attempt to create publicity for himself. It is sad that after a very successful career in comedy, Mr. Hughley would stoop to behavior that is disrespectful to women as a means of self promotion. I don't know Rev. Sharpton, I thought you declared yourself the "Decency Czar" and was going to stamp out referring to women as "b*tches" and "hoes." So I am perplexed [NOT] as to why you were a guest on D L Hughley's show this week, didn't catch the last episode? Here is a refresher in case you forgot about the content of DL Hughley's show just one week before you were on: Folks, have you wondered why the usual town chorus has been silent about DL Hughley on CNN. I mean they had a conniption when Don Imus called Black women nappy headed hoes, but where was their outrage when DL Hughley's first show featured such flowery phrases as "Shut Cha Mouth B*tches" Pimps up Hoes Down, "Bitch Betta have my money", "Financing hoes"etc? Much like their reaction to Hughley taking his minstrelsy on to the Tonight Show with Jay Leno to say Black women are the ugliest women he has ever seen in his life, the Black Elite Establishment has silently looked the other way as DL Hughley transforms CNN into the Cooning Negro Network. A WAOD reader aptly pointed out the reason for the silence about Hughley propping his show up on perpetuating racial stereotypes and calling women B*tches and Hoes for Jollies is that all the usual suspects want to be on Hughley's show. For those who didn't know, let me give you some background on Sharpton and Hughley's recent history. Back when the Black Elite Establishment was being silent about Hughley's comment on the Tonight Show, this blog, barely three week's old called Al Sharpton on his double standard in screaming about Imus while remaining silent about Hughley. After WAOD readers mobilized ( for the first time in history) AL Sharpton issued this statement condemning Hughley. Sharpton was the only member of the Black Elite Establishment and the Civil Rights Industrial Complex to do so, but only after we overwhelmed the National Action Network switchboards:

It has recently come to our attention that D.L. Hughley has made disturbing comments about the young women of the Rutgers basketball team. OUCH! Sharpton didn't exactly publicize his condemnation of Hughley in the same way that he threw himself in front of every TV camera he could find during the Imus brou ha ha. Hughley didn't even know that Sharpton had condemned Hughley until I told a reporter who interviewed Hughley and me for an article about the Hughley's attack on the Tonight Show. When the reporter read Hughley Sharpton's condemnation, this was Hughley's response:

DLH:It's funny that of all the people in this, they sent letters to Al Sharpton, to Bill Cosby, to the girls at Rutgers. Did any of them ever respond? No! Who the fuck takes this—I mean, we got people dying on bridges, and this is a four-month-old story, and people are still worried about it? AVC: Actually, they did get a response from Al Sharpton. DLH: And what did Al say? You know what, I don't care what Al said. I honestly could care less what he thinks. I think these cats are just opportunists. I don't see where they've made the world any better, or actually taken a stand about anything that matters. I think in the quest to be relevant, they've put themselves in the bin of obscurity. Al Sharpton's been on my TV show, and he's sat in front of me, and I've said the exact same things. AVC: It's funny that you call Sharpton an "opportunist," because his letter says your joke was an "obvious attempt to create publicity" for yourself, and that it's sad that you would "stoop to behavior that is disrespectful to women as a means of self-promotion." DLH: Al Sharpton's actually gonna say "self-promotion"? Al Sharpton?! C'mon, man, let's be real. How many people really respect what Al Sharpton says, really? He doesn't show up unless there's a camera around. I'm one of the best in the country at what I do, and I don't need to pretend to be anything else. Pretend Preacher? Asinine? DL Hughley is Right about one thing, Al Sharpton doesn't show up unless there is a camera around. CNN has LOTS of cameras. HELOOOO! Why isn't anybody pointing this mess out. They hate each other's guts, call each other names in the press, but will bury all of that, including their "principles" to stay in front of the camera. Hypocrites! Sharpton purports to be the decency czar, but sat across from Hughley and didn't say a word about last week. Now that you know that, it probably changes how you viewed that AWKWARD exchange with Al Sharpton. Sharpton and Hughley were talking around their exchange. Sharpton basically agreed to give Hughley cover to continue being an embarrassment to All of Black America in exchange for being a guest on the show. And so you now know why the chorus of condemnation for Hughley's dreadful show is coming from ordinary African Americans like you and me and those of us in NEW MEDIA. You won't hear all the usual suspects from the Black Elite Establishment and the Civil Rights Industrial Complex complaining, because the prospect of being given an extended segment on CNN is just to tantilizing for them to resist. Its an incestuous relationship. I hope Al Sharpton made Hughley beg a little before he agreed to be on that dreadful show. The only whores around here are Sharpton and Hughley... Camera Whores!

What happens when CNN hires a man with a well documented history of animus towards Black women? Well, right out of the box, he takes his Black woman hatred, degradation and misogyny to a world wide audience. Using the financial crisis to introduce the world to the hilarity that is human sex trafficking by bringing on a Pimp ( Human Sex Trafficker) named Freddie Mack to discuss the mortgage meltdown. Yes, you just heard someone say "Shut cho mouth b*tches!" on CNN.- You better watch this clip before CNN yanks it down. They aren't showing it on CNN.com... I wonder why? Y'all will especially enjoy the part where Freddie Mack blames the mortgage meltdown on his sister "Fannie Mae" and he says "Or as I like to call her Fannie Mae or Fannie May Not, depending on how much money you got." Oh yes, he said this on CNN. Oh y'all sohuld split your sides with laughter when Freddie Mack talks about his business being "Financing Hoes." Uh huh on CNN. Y'all. C.N.N. Why aren't the women of CNN raising hell? Where is NOW? Oh yeah... the audience assumes that Freddie Mack's "Hoes" are Black women... no problems.. keep laughing. CNN is using DL Hughley as a straw man to carry out their their dirty work. He immunizes them from criticism and that is what they were counting on. The fact that the Black silent majority would give them a pass, because we are supposed to accept whatever garbage gets spewed at us as long as the one spewing the garbage has some melanin. CNN ain't slick. I tried to tell CNN what Hughley was all about in my post CNN Gives New Show to Black-Woman-Hating Comic DL Hughley. I weep for the employees of CNN. I weep for them in sorrow that DL Hughley has been foisted upon them. I weep for its foreign correspondents who have dodged IEDs, bullets, bombs, coups, and cholera, to only have their service to CNN disrespected by being forced to answer questions from a complete and total Buffoon- a modern day minstrel. A man too illiterate to read a teleprompter and properly pronounce your names and your locations. I weep for you CNN employees who were passed over so a man with few talents, a string of television failures, and did I mention an inability to read was given a one hour show on a international cable news outlet. Folks, there is something called the "soft bigotry of low expectations." On Saturday night the world got a wonderful demonstration of this bigotry when CNN debuted DL Hughley Makes the News. If you will recall, this blog has chronicled Hughley for well over a year after he made the following comments in the aftermath of Don Imus calling a group of College educated Black women "Nappy headed hoes." Now many may say "Isn't putting up video of his horrific show on your blog helping to promote his wretchedly inferior comedic talent?" Not so my friends. My putting up video of his show demonstrates my confidence that no matter how much CNN promotes this show, DL Hughley's inability to read and pronounce the names of places like Mumbai, India will doom this show as all of his other television shows have been promptly canceled. SO here is the first segment called "DL Around the World" somewhere CNN's foreign correspondents must be wondering how far they have fallen to have to endure being interviewed by someone who can't even pronounce their names and locations correctly. You have to feel for the Russian Correspondent who has to endure Hughley's idiot question about the world series. Or when he asked the China correspondent "If McCain ran against Obama in China who would win?" Of how about "Who Would Make a Better Astronaut, McCain or Obama" : I felt so bad for these correspondents. All their education and experience and risking their lives as foreign correspondents only to be subjected to the insulting experience of being interviewed by a man who cannot read. It's like they botoxed his corneas- look at his eyes. Dead eyes. The one bright spot was Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson and Hughley managed to sully that experience by asking Dr. Tyson if he "got some" from girls while talking about an apocalyptic impact from an asteroid. NO I did not make that up. CNN finally gives a show to an African American, and they don't go and find a journalist ( I know those are hard to find), the don't go find a political analyst or an academic, they go get a COMIC. A comic that thinks Black women are "the ugliest [women] he has ever seen in his life." His first show has been panned by those who watched it. It has been declared one of the WORST shows many have seen in a while. We are not surprised. This man's maliciousness and anti-Black woman animus cannot be disguised as humor. He is a mean spirited profane little troll and all the studio lights and makeup in the world cannot not disguise that CNN. I am not surprised that CNN dug into the bottom of the barrel to give a platform to minstrelty. CNN is Bearish on Black people. Remember when they used that Soledad O'Brien documentary Black in America to put a bunch of pathology on display and try to pass that off as telling OUR story? Remember when CNN put up a headline on their website declaring Black women to be "An Endangered Species"? Remember when CNN declared AIDS to be a "Black" disease? For the record, to the reporters who like to quote this blog without so much as an email or phone call, please don't say I am "protesting" DL Hughley and CNN. I don't "protest" or "boycott" -- that's Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Now MY READERS have been known to do those things... :) . If my readers happen to take note of the advertisers that purchased the ads that run at the beginning of the CNN embedded videos of Hughley's shows, track down their contact information, and loudly protest their financial support of DL Hughley's platform, then I can take no responsibility for that. They are on their own. I can't be responsible for any rogue readers who track down the contact information for Proctor and Gamble and ask them why their PUR water brand is helping to subsidize the online video of a show that thinks pimps and calling women hoes and b*tches are funny. No, I have no desire to cause any type of controversy that might prolong the length of this clearly doomed show. I don't care WHAT HIS PUBLICIST TELLS YOU. This blog is not mounting a protest! Tell his publicist that they will have to find some other way to make this Titanic of a television show viable. You shall get no help from me! My only hope is that the CNN employees forced to appear on this debacle will revolt and demand their basic human dignity back from their bosses. I pity that DL Hughley has been thrust upon them by the bigotry of their superiors. To pull a page out of D.L's Playbook... I'm BLACK and I think he is horrible. So there! Once last question, would CNN let John Stewart, Stephen Colbert, or Don Imus come on their station and do a skit calling women b*tches and hoes? Do y'all get how insidious it is that they use this Black man to carry out his anti-woman agenda? IF HE WAS WHITE ( Yeah I said it).. IF. HE. WAS. WHITE, it would not be tolerated on CNN. It is because he is Black that the b*tches and the hoes Freddie Mack is referring to are assumed to be BLACK women that DL and CNN are going to get a ride. To those who claim I am being bourgeoisie. 73% Polled Say They Won't Watch "Black Imus'" Show on CNN

So there we were minding our own business in our this tiny little island in the cybersea giving our heartfelt beliefs about CNN giving a show to shuck and jivester, DL Hughley (aka "Black Imus") and some contributor to the National Ledger decided to quote a few passages from out mildly stated post, CNN Gives New Show to Black-Woman-Hating Comic DL Hughley. This is how the National Ledger described our quaint little cyber paradise:

Um, we aren't "wondering" we are saying OUTRIGHT, D L Hughley is an inferior comedic talent and I want to see the list of Black comics they considered before they settled on him. Again, we aren't wondering. We're stating emphatically, CNN could have done BETTER than DL Hughley. We are not alone. 73% of the readers of TV Newser which caters to media insiders say they will not be watching the show. To Hughley's Family, Friends, and Fans ( all five of y'all) descending on our tranquil oasis in attempt to provoke some type of controversy, we will not be moved from our position that we are not going to assist D.L. Hughley's publicist as we inadvertently did in the past. You know, when y'all would call up reporters telling them about this blog and our contention that Hughley is a Black-woman-hating minstrel. You shouldn't need to stoke controversy to generate attention for this folly, Hughly should be able to rise and fall on his own merits...if he has any! We'll just be watching to see which advertisers believe that Black women are "the ugliest women" Hughley has ever seen in his life. It's gonna be a blast!

XXL Magazine calls Dunbar Village Victim "some hooker down in Florida"

Welcome XXL Readers Despite the fact that our efforts related to THAT SHOW haven't been posted about on this blog for almost a month and we've moved on from a certain D-List comedian. Folks are still writing about it and apparently they have been on vacation since May or something. Now, in an effort to attack me and this blog (like I care), this XXL writer has called the Dunbar Village victim a "Hooker"

She’s also been involved with the protests against rap music that have stemmed from the Don Imus incident as well as the protests against the comedian DL Hughley, who had the sheer balls to suggest that the Rutgers University women’s basketball team were some of the ugliest women he’d ever seen in his life. That fucking racist. Based on a cursory perusal of her blog, it looks her latest mission involves protesting media outlets that haven’t devoted enough coverage to the gang rape of a black woman by about 20 black men somewhere down in Florida.

I don’t know about the rest of you fruits, but I hope she’s successful in this effort. Raping a woman is just wrong, and I thought she brought up a good point in comparing the media coverage of this incident to the coverage of the execution-style killings of four college students in New Jersey. What’s worse, that some hooker down in Florida is out $300, or that four college students in New Jersey are no longer living? If you answered the latter, I wonder about your solidarity with the black race (read a black woman’s ego). (SOURCE)

First, I never compared the media coverage of the Newark murders to the media coverage of Dunbar Village. I applauded the actions of Mayor Corey Booker and Governor James Corzine when compared to West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel and Governor Charlie Crist. I was just as saddened and horrified and have talked about the lack of attention by civil rights organization to violent crimes against Black people.

Second, hate on me all you want, but this woman in Dunbar Village was not a hooker. She was a 35 year old single mother who was selling Avon and delivering phone books to pay the rent when ten Black males invaded her home and gang raped her for three hours and beat her son. While the mother and son were screaming, her neighbors didn't bother to call the police. The attackers forced this mother to perform oral sex on her 12 year-old son and then poured cleaning solution on them as they laid naked in the tub, blinding the son and burning the mother's skin. This woman was not a hooker and you are going to BURN IN HELL for referring to her as one in an attempt to attack me. You can read about this horrible crime here. Yeah, they really hate us that they can't have compassion for what happened to this woman.

Again, I have never called for an apology from DL. I haven't tried to shut down any of his shows. All I have ever said is that I respectfully disagree and that his First Amendment defense of his foolishness.

I will not apologize for standing up and saying that the days of using African American women as sacrificial lambs should be over. This isn't about censorship, this is about a) pushing back against images and messages that have gone unchallenged for too long and b) refusing to subsidize things that demean and degrade Black women.

DL and his Hip Hop brethren have the right to say whatever vile and disgusting things they want, I just don't want to have to pay for it by purchasing the goos and services of companies who do.

I don't even have the heart today to respond to the fact that this bastard called the Dunbar Village victim a "hooker." Wow. I thought folks were exaggerating and being melodramatic, but some folks REALLY have an enduring hatred of Black women. It is just always shocking to see it in print.

I don’t expect Harris Publications(Phone: 212-807-7100), publisher of XXL to be compassionate or be a good corporate citizen or not hate and despise Black women, their business model does not allow it, but they could at least try to be accurate about a vicious hate crime.

All I ask is that their editors review the known facts related to the Dunbar Village gang rape and determine whether it is appropriate for one of their columnists to refer to this 35 year-old single mother who was raped and sodomized for three hours by ten men and boys while they beat her child and later forced her to perform a sex act on her 12 year old son as “some hooker down in Florida.”

WAOD Guide to Demonstrating in Style.....

This is what was on the front of one of the demonstrator's t-shirts. She's actually my water aerobics instructor, Beverly


1. Be On Time- It is really poor form when your protesters get there before you do even if its by a couple of minutes.
1a. DO NOT SCHEDULE YOUR PROTEST TO BEGIN DURING RUSH HOUR. I had to go from one side of town to the other and through the UT campus thus alerting me that the college kiddies are back in town, all 50,000 of them and their parents apparently, as it took me 30 minutes just to get through campus.

2. Don't use oversized sharpies without proper ventilation. Markers can kill.

3. If you failed handwriting in the third grade, you might want someone else to write your signs.
(I did not use the D.L. is the Devil sign, that was a drafting mistake I decided to have fun with. I also was not able to use my D.L. is an Attention Ho' sign. Miss Pauline thought that it was inappropriate so I relented and strapped on the Delusional sign instead. )
4.Try not to use polysyllabic words on your placard, it makes people have to think too hard. What is clever to you might not be absorbed at 30 mph.

5.You can really use duct tape for anything

6. Don't stand in fire ants.

7.Do not park where you car can get towed. It is so not fun trying to outrun a tow truck driver. This is a picture I took after I had to run and move my car.

8.Do call the special events office at the police department and ask them to give you a chat on "How to exercise your First Amendment rights without going to the clank."

9. DO wear shades if it is sunny.

10. Don't plan to sit in a recliner and chill. It was only two hours why did I pack as if I was going to the Alaskan back country for three days.

11. Do carry anti foolishness devices, in my case a whistle ( again, a remnant from the Alaskan back country) and a fork. If someone body pulled out a fork on you, you would leave them the hell alone too. A knife people expect, a fork, not so much.

12. Do not throw your belongings on the ground so that bees and crawl inside and then crawl out when you get home.

13. Sometimes smiling and saying nothing makes people curious enough to come over and have a conversation with you.

14. The protest is all about the people you are doing it with. Forgive those who got sick, suddenly got vacation plans, sprained an ankle or just "don't do that." You don't need a multitude.

15. Enjoy the fact that you get to do this kind of thing without the guv'ment carting you off never to be seen again. Do it often.

16. DO YOU! If you are not a bullhorn person, then don't try to be. If you like to wave and smile at people, then do it. Out of sheer nosiness and because we were laughing and having a good time, people came up to us and wanted the full story.

16a. If a sister who has marched in the hot Texas heat with you for two hours has a potential suitor who uses your $3.00 placard as a cocktail napkin, let her take it home as a souvenir of her bravery. Girl you better call that man! I am almost certain he is not a serial killer, but again I've been wrong before.
