Allstate and Tom Joyner Indoctrinating Young Black Children to Revere Sexual Predators?: Genarlow Wilson Refresher Post!

"Genarlow watched, waited and gladly took his turn. "

As the saying goes, you are entitled to your own opinion, but NOT your own facts. We've reached our annual allotment of deluded and quickly deleted comments from Genarlow Wilson supporters so  Oh yes, its about time we had another Genarlow Wilson refresher post

For those who are unfamiliar with ALL OF THE FACTS surrounding Genarlow Wilson's behavior  which led to his arrest and conviction, the narrative goes something like this "poor little Genarlow Wilson, honor student and athlete was on his way to college when he had a romantic evening with his underage girlfriend and then the mean old State of Georgia threw him in jail for an act of youthful precociousness." - NOT TRUE. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

In order to get Mr. Wilson out of jail, his apologists has to wipe out the existence of  a 17-year old girl and try to portray the 15 year old girl as Mr. Wilson's "girlfriend." They neglect to point out that Mr. Wilson passed his purported "girlfriend" around the room to his buddies.

So in review here is a description of the evidence from a lawyer who was in the courtroom during the trial. HE actually saw the videotape Genarlow Wilson MADE of his actions that evening:

The videotape was "Exhibit A" because it depicts a horrific crime: a gang rape of a semi-conscious, 17-year-old girl, followed by a bizarre display of sexual precociousness by a 15-year-old girl. That's the truth recorded by Genarlow and his friends that fateful night. I suspect that is also why Ms. Bernstein hated it whenever McDade used it to rebut her version of Genarlow's crime.

No matter how much (two glasses of Cognac) the 17-year-old may have had to drink, no matter how much she may have flirted with those boys, she did not consent to having sex with all of them, one right after the other. Yet it never occurred to the "smart" and "spiritual" Genarlow to say, "Stop it. We should not be doing this." No. Genarlow watched, waited and gladly took his turn. When they were through raping her, Genarlow helped his friends drag the comatose victim to the bathroom. They opened the door, pushed her in, watched as she fell to the floor and closed the door. I guess she wasn't much fun anymore. SOURCE

Not content to spring him from jail, his supporters then went on to try to craft him into some type of heroic figure. That's like me being labeled heroic after driving around high water barricades into a swollen creek and getting stuck and having a search and rescue team come and get me out.

They threw him parades.

Tom Joyner gave him a full scholarship to Morehouse College.

A recent and ridiculously lengthy comment from a Wilson apologist actually reminded me that he existed and reminded me that the Black community took two teenage Black girls and threw them under the bus, backed the bus up and then ran over them again and again. Thanks for the nudge to Google Mr. Wilson and check on his current exploits... my findings were quite disturbing.

Apparently, with the assistance of Tom Joyner and a publicist, Mr. Wilson has fashioned himself some type of sexual assault motivational speaker.... No, I'm not kidding. Mr. Wilson is running all over the country speaking to young children about sexual violence, but he's not telling them that he thinks is perfectly fine to have sex with unconscious teenage girls. He's not telling them that he thinks its perfectly fine to manipulate and coerce younger girls into performing sex acts on he and his buddies for his amusement.

NO, the message he's spreading is that if you are going to violate and abuse teenage girls, make sure you check the law books first. Again, I'm not exaggerating or being hyperbolic at all. Listen to this (skip to minute 10, the host is long-winded) interview Mr. Wilson conducted on Blog Talk Radio.

Listen to internet radio with Dr Empowerment on Blog Talk Radio

Mr Wilson has a twitter account where he describes himself:

Morehouse College Senior...Youth Leader...Aspiring Mentor & writer...A Way Out Of No Way!! Genarlow_Wilson

According to Mr. Wilson's twitter account, he has spoken at: The Tom Joyner Family Reunion and a Sexual Violence Prevention Forum in Indiana

In addition, apparently the students at Winder Barrow High School in Atlanta, GA are being "taught" about Mr. Wilson and are requesting that he come speak to them. Um, who is teaching about Mr. Wilson and what are they teaching and will those with a different perspective be given equal time? I'm incredibly disturbed that children are being indoctrinated revere a sexual predator. Likewise its the height of irresponsible for school teachers or administrators to be encouraging high school students to engage with a man who thinks its okay to have sex with semiconscious teenage girls on Twitter. Do the parents of the students at Winder Barrow know their children are being encouraged to interact with a convicted statutory rapist?

According to the interview posted above, in addition to engaging with high school students on Twitter he's speaking to children in school in the south. Who thought this was a good idea?

Perhaps most disturbing is that Allstate sponsored an event where Mr. Wilson was touted as some type of motivational youth speaker.

Motivational for youth  to do what?

What behavior by Genarlow Wilson should be modeled by young children?

  • Should they model picking up an unconscious girl from a bathroom floor, throwing her on a bed and then running a train on her before dumping her back on the floor?
  • Should they model making a sex tape featuring underage girls?
  • Should they model telling a younger girl that she's their girlfriend, enticing her into coming to a hotel room, providing liquor and drugs before having her perform sex act on all of your friends?
  • Should they model treating drug use and drinking as more severe than treating other human beings like semen receptacles?

Allstate Customers

If you are a reader who is an Allstate customer, please inquire TODAY and ask your agent the following questions:

  • Is it the policy of Allstate to pay to provide a platform to a man who thinks its okay for a group of boys to have sex with semi/unconscious girls? If not, why did you sponsor an event where Genarlow Wilson was a speaker?
  • Is it the policy of Allstate to support making sex tapes featuring teenage girls? If not, why did you sponsor an event where Genarlow Wilson was a speaker?
  • Is it the policy of Allstate to support the rationalization, dehumanization and objectification of teenage Black girls? If not, why did you sponsor an event where Genarlow Wilson was a speaker?
  • Are you aware that Mr. Wilson is promoting his connection to Allstate prominently on his public Twitter feed and in photos on his public Facebook page?
  • Did you make arrangements for alternative viewpoint related to Mr. Wilson's actions on the night of the incident which led to his incarceration to be provided to the audience? Did you make arrangements for either of Mr. Wilson's victims to speak?

If you review Mr. Wilson's timeline, he is heavily promoting his association with Allstate.

That's fine. If Allstate wants to associate closely with Genarlow Wilson, then men and women who do not support rape culture need to disassociate your premium dollars with Allstate.

Don't hoot and holler, just ask the questions and ask them to look into it. This is totally and completely indefensible so surely Allstate will work to insure that this never. happens. again.

Tom Joyner can do whatever he wants to with his money, but its not right for Allstate to use the money you give to them for insurance premiums to legitimize an unrepentant sexual predator.

In the future if they sponsor an event featuring Mr. Wilson, then they should demand that equal time be provided to provide the rest of the facts surrounding his incarceration.

I'll stop writing about Mr. Wilson when his supporters stop coming to this blog LYING and attempting to use this platform to coverup his BAD ACTS. This blog does not support rape culture and neither should you.

For Christmas, I would love it if one of my readers obtained the full case file from the Georgia Supreme Court. It should contain exhibits and trial transcripts. That information needs to be made public so that people can really understand who they are supporting when they run around defending the actions of Genarlow Wilson.

In conclusion: "Genarlow watched, waited and gladly took his turn."

Im with State Farm but I still called and told them I was considering switching over until I heard that Allstate supports the rape of young black girls. The phone rep was speechless and passed me on to her manager who said she had no idea exactly WHOM to pass my grievance on to. She also had no idea who Genarlow Wilson is nor anything about the case and she was a black woman. She was disgusted and I felt like our 5 minute convo helped possibly save another black woman or her childrlen. She said as far as she knew the corporate office handles all spomsorships but sometimess local regions have funds available for stuff like this. This may be the work of a regional director in the Atlanta area. Im still investigating.

As far as his apologists go, these sickos are so obssessed with martyring this piece of trash that they have literally crossed over into fantasyland. Genarlow is a lowlife piece of garbage who will rape again, mark my words. And every single one of you defending him in any way will also be responsible. You are practically holding a woman down in front of him, spreading her legs and egging him on. Sick creeps.

I get what he is saying about the law and if this had just been him and his little girlfriend getting caught experimenting in the back of a car I might even go along with this. But how do you justify group sex with an underaged girl and sex of any kind with someone, of any age, too impaired to consent.

They are so hung up on teaching the law as part of sexual education. How about teaching respect. decency a little pride?

And don't get me started on this famale host.
She asked: "Why do we allow them (underage and older teens) to go to school with one another?"
Answer: We expect them not to disrespect each other by getting someone drunk and passing them around.
Then she says by putting younger and older together we are encouraging "relationships, camaraderie and RESPECT" for one another. How is supporting this scum helping that?

I wonder what would happen if we started teaching our girls that in light of this lax attitude toward the predatory behavior of some of our young black men the girls should take up martial arts, take up arms and defend themselves by any means necessary. Would someone do something to curb these out of control young men if a couple of young women left them lying there?

That was painful to listen to; mainly because the host got on my nerves. I only made it to the 19 minute mark. When this case first broke I had an uneasy feeling about it even before all the facts were brought out. Or shall I say, before I learned all the facts; because they had been swept under the rug by certain entitiies and they are still there.

Until he comes out and takes responsiblity for ALL of his actions and acknowledges that he and his friends had no business running a train on those girls in the first place, I don't want to hear anything he has to say. Period. He had the nerve to talk about his little sister who was 5 or 6 at that time. Was he thinking about her when he was violating those 2 girls that night? Would he be OK with a group of horny teeanged boys filling his little sister (who is now 13) with alcohol and drugs and violating her in the same manner? Moreso, would his MOTHER be ok with it?

Genarlow, and R. Kelly (yes, I went there), can take a flying leap. I get so tired of black folks supporting the WRONG black folks.

Its a war good people. If this has not been made clear, it is now. Its Black women against basically the world. Funny thing is we have dissenters amongst our ranks who are rooting for our enemies to destroy us. We are winning, these mass apologists and poo pooers are not smart. Thats their first flaw. Supporting this fool is an atrocity. I'm calling Allstate even though I dont have a policy. We will get them where they hurt.

October 17, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMena

I left Allstate over a year ago for a better insurance package with another company. They recently sent me some information asking me to come back. I really wasn't going to but now I will mail it back with a letter letting them know that I never will as long as they are supporting this fool and his current message. Like someone said if he took responsibility for all of his actions and took up a crusade against this this train running behavior and general lack of respect for black women I might find him a little more believable. At this point he is basically saying "make sure those girls you violate are within your own age range" or "make sure the act you do with one underaged is within the list of crimes that will only net you a misdemeanor".

I will add that while reading about the case I did find that his supporters often argue that while he was being sentenced to 10 years because of his incident involved oral sex there were violators 24 and 27 being sentenced in the same courthouse to probation, etc. for having intercourse with underaged persons. I think the overall problem is that the justice system often cheapens sexual violation and this allowed for him to have an argument that he was being treated differently. Why not argue that the others should have been punished more harshly? Where is NOW when you need them?

Stop saying 'running a train' or 'train running behavior'. SPEAK TRUTH.

GANG RAPE.

Do NOT dress it up in nicer words, do not lessen the psychological impact of the hearing the truth of the event.

GANG RAPE. And he, along with his friends, are all RAPISTS.

October 17, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterEntershift

Agreed Entershift. Rape is what we are talking about here, the 17-year-old (who I guess is of age in GA) was too out of it to consent and the 15-year-old was too young to.

However there are those instances where young women who are barely of age and not drunk or high but who are coerced in ways that you and I might consider rape but are not be covered by the rape laws. The behavior would be just as horrible but the actors may not be charged. My larger point is that if this scum really wanted to make a difference he would be speaking out against such activity and the underlying mentality that supports it. I actually agree with you.

What breaks my heart the most is Tom Joyner gave Genarlow a full scholarship to Morehouse and I am curious did the victims two young women receive scholarships to Spellman/Howard/Lincoln/VUU/VSU. I love Tom Joyner and all he has done for HBCU's I am just curious - Did he give scholarships to the two young women in the Genarlow Wilson's case? I am just curious did anyone give the young women scholarships, support, counseling, prayers and empowerment to tell their story to help young women and young men to respect women at the highest level. When will we stop supporting the criminal and let's uplift the survivors. To the young women in the case please remember you are priceless, no matter what.

Dr. Empowerment and Tom Joyner please extend the same support, empowerment and scholarships to the victims of this crime. That is all!

October 17, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRuby Taylor

Unfortunately, Tom Joyner is not truly for Black women. Like so many Black men in America, they are out for themselves ONLY. They have no sense of pride, no sense of community, no care about our history, our suffering. The majority of Black males car for Black males ONLY. To tell you the truth, we shouldn't be shocked by the actions of Joyner, Genarlow Wilson, or the fact that horrific crimes like these happen all the time in the Black community. Why? Because it is painfully obvious that something about our experience in the U.S. has turned a significant portion of Black men into extinguishers of their own race - from the sky high violence that has left more Black youth dead than the Vietnam and Korean war combined, to the hatred of Black women and girls that becomes more and more obvious (in violent and non-violent ways) each day. I agree with Mena that outright war is being waged every day, from every medium, against Black women and girls.

Jesus, take the wheel! You were one of the first people to tell the truth about Wilson. Keep speaking the truth.

October 18, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMonica

Ruby,

Why or should I ask How can you still "love Tom Joyner" when it's so obvious that he's a rapist sympathizer? To answer your question, NO, NO ONE DID A THING FOR THE GIRLS. NONE OF THE BLACK SCHOOLS, NONE OF THE BLACK WOMEN SCHOOLS, NOT TOM JOYNER, NOT BLACK RADIO, NOT BLACK PEOPLE.

In short, here's how things turned out: RAPIST: Scholarship to Morehouse and a lucrative speaking career recruiting rapists. RAPE VICTIMS: ZILCH.

October 18, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBLKSeaGoat

Genarlow Wilson and his advisers have no self awareness. How many defendants in sex offense cases guilty or not try to attempt some kind of speaking career? They let him back in a high school? I hope he isn't taking these girls phone numbers. This is why black kids are so confused, we act like people who go to jail for drugs and date rape are political prisoners, while no one teaches kids about the real political prisoners in our country.

Are these people serious? He needs to go change his name, become an accountant and go sit down somewhere.

Does Tom Joyner even know the whole story or is he is going off of soundbites that the producers hand him? I don't even see him as the type to research the story.

October 18, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterblkchik

Let me clear that up I love the support he gives for HBCU's I do not agree at all with his actions in supporting a criminal and not supporting or encouraging the victims.

October 18, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRuby Taylor

In my support of the victims I contacted Allstate because my father has a policy with them and I let them know I am suggesting my father switch his policy with a corporation that does not support criminals and not uplift the victims. At the corporate office I spoke to Maureen and she stated for an investigation to be opened I must send in a fax explaining my concerns to 866-740-5665 attn Maureen. I will be faxing my concerns and I hope you all do the same.

Speaking up for the victims and I am not apologizing or compromising. The victims are still priceless, no matter what. My prayers and positive energy goes towards those young ladies and their family.

October 18, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRuby Taylor

While I find it incredibly reprehensible that he's a motivational speaker on sexual violence...sigh.

BUT it's never been about Gerenlow Wilson. It's ALWAYS been about a culture that sees having sex with an unconscious girl as NOT being rape. He was found not guilty of the rape. There's no arguing that fact.

The oral sex charge was over reach based on a law intended to catch child molesters - at the end of the day it was sex between teens (15 and 17 is not a huge difference) and Georgia has laws on the books regarding teenage sex (which is a misdemeanor).

There are gobs of problems here - but the case has never been as black and white as either side wants to make it. What's sad is the girl in all of this is lost. He gets a scholarship and fame and she gets...

Promoting the idea that sex with an unconscious female is okay is BEYOND ridiculous (I know that's not exactly what he's saying) and it's clear the Mr. Wilson has learned nothing. And unfortunately to many young men see things as he does.

While I believe he should be free based on how the case played out (that doesn't mean I don't think he raped the chick) he should have either been ignored or made into a poster child of how NOT to behave. Instead the "community" has turned him into a pseudo celebrity which just reinforces all the bad male behaviour women have to constantly fight against.

October 19, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJJ

@blkchick

"I hope he isn't taking these girls phone numbers."

I am sure he is doing more than that. He is a rapist. His target demo then was underage high school girls. It is not a coincidence or accident that he is now a "speaker" whose present audience allows him unfettered access to that particular demographic.

Many pedos do this. If he had a preference for victims aged 3-8 he would be an early education major and seek employment at a grade school. Or start a clown business to perform at children's birthday parties. Or befriend single mothers with children in that age range. Or be a helpful neighbor to families with children in that age range etc..

Since there has been so much support of him he has a halo over his head now and probably feels pretty invincible. Combined with the fact that he and his supporters saw nothing wrong with his behavior ... I am pretty sure he is grooming/rape testing victims in the audience every time he speaks.
