DEFAMED....Again- SNL's The Bride of Blackenstein
Monday, January 31, 2011 at 7:00AM
The Blogmother Here is your daily dose of Black-woman-defamation courtesy of Saturday Night Live and gendered suicide bomber Nicki Minaj. Its a skit called the "Bride of Blackenstein"
Yeah, I thought y'all would find this just as funny as I did... not. To be clear, SNL would not have gone near this if there were three step & fetch it Knee-Grows soft-shoeing their way to the tune of this tomfoolery and coonery. The ultimate goal is to make sure Black women KNOW their place, which is at the bottom of to totem pole. Nicki Minaj's goal is to make sure she's at the top of the bottom of the totem pole.
Faith and Halima did a duo of posts about the defamation of Black women and how it impacts the quality of our lives. I of course generally dissent from declaring that the Regime of Bullets, Booty, and Bling are the ""Black Perspective" because I think that cedes them entirely too much territory, but I think this segment of Black America, the predatory, exploitive, cultural cannibalism does equal the destruction/ oppression of Black women:
- The Root= Essence = BET=Tyler Perry = Death to Black Women
- Why the defaming of the Black female Image Affects you.
As always, the comments are just as interesting a read as the posts.

"Nicki Minaj's goal is to make sure she's at the top of the bottom of the totem pole."--- Gina.THIS.
What more is there to say??? Nicki Minaj (Lil Kim 7.0) needs to just SIT DOWN already. Even my 18 year old niece who used to like her now thinks something is wrong with her. Enough said.
Well, that's why I can't wait for 'Namaste' by Gina and other like-minded films, documentaries by and about us to get out there.
At this stage, I just tune out all the coonery and negativity. Whereas it used to really anger and upset me, now I just ignore it and focus and support the positive efforts, as well as trying to create my own.
What ever.
The only reason they keep that guy Kennon on the show is for him to dress in drag and mock Black women. On almost every episode he's in drag. So this skit does not surprise me a bit.
And of course I know everyone knows that Martin Lawrence has a new Big Momma film coming out in a few days. So the mocking just never stops.
Actually, I think Nikki Minaj may be a little worse than Lil Kim now..so sad! Yes, it's crazy. I t seems as if EVERYTHING in the last few years has gone completely crazy against Black women, mainly from whites in the media, but with a good helping of - you said it Gina - step & fetch it knee grows. Craziness.
To say I don't like this is such an understatement; but, does anyone recall what year was this episode? Thanks!
Ugh . . . This was not even amusing. Nicki Minaj is a mess and I wish she would go somewhere and stay there. She's doing an awesome job defaming BW's image, which is one of several reasons why I will never support her or her "music."
Oh wow, this is unbelievable! Why would any black woman agree to do this? This skit is borderline racist and seems to be an example of modern day prejudice. Instead of being outspoken about their prejudice, they use imagery and stereotypes to promote their view that blacks are inferior. Unfortunately, I see more and more of this type of prejudice everyday.
What has been seen....cannot be unseen. Somebody hide the kitchen shears, I'm tempted to pull an Oedipus.
Obscure Greek myth jokes aside, I've been lurking this blog for two months, and I HAD to come out of hiding to address this...this stereotype-slinging waste of film and effort.
I'm 18, first year in college. I'm no one's babymama, far from the physically flaunting type, and a flat-out nerd.
How in the hell am I supposed to deal with this kind of bs while trying to get out in the real world and be seen as more than a (excuse the explicit nature) welfare-queening, mindless cumdumpster with legs and an attitude? I knew Minaj was stupid, but not THIS stupid.
...okay, I take that back. She's got all the cognitive functionality of a bowl of jello. Did she SERIOUSLY not think this set bw back by endless decades?
And Kenan and Jay need a Chuck Norris-style punch in the junk for going along with this bootylicious minstrel show.
Heck, maybe they didn't mind. As long as they're getting paid, right?
*shakes head*
I will guiltily admit, though-- I got a tiny kick out of that part with the guy leading the mob.
I ship BWWM, sue me. :)
I have decided to personally boycott the white entertainment media, no Oscars, no Grammys, no award shows, because I've come to realize they really don't care or like black women. Nikki Minaj, 21st Hottennot Venus, is just another example of how mainstream media view women of color. Sad thing is a lot black women in the entertainment industry are happy just taking these scraps. They are basically ignored by mainstream media and regulated to the usual King and Vibe Magazines poster girl.
I have the same view of SNL, which is why I stopped watching it years ago. The black guy has played every stereotypical black woman in the book. What in the heck were these three black people thinking. That was one of the most racially offensive skits I've seen in a long time and it takes a lot to offend me.
I saw a documentary featuring Nicki a while back on VH1 and she complained how when she tries to demand respect, people just laugh at her like she's a joke. The girl is clearly held hostage by a bunch of men who want nothing more than to make money and fantasies off of her. Like someone mentioned in a different post a few weeks back, some right minded woman needs to get a hold of her and give her "The Talk".
The Lorenzo Macintosh character is just as bad.
What people have to understand is that there is a perception that such portrayals of sassiness show empowerment. The "bride" is running things, it is her castle, she is telling the monster what to do, setting the rules, etc. and she has the booty that the men desire.
I am confident that there are black women out there cheering this portrayal while laughing. "You tell em girl". It shows how certain stereotypical behaviors of black women are viewed as "strength" to many.
@mia, are you my long lost sister? ;)
I swear, it's so hard trying to find young women like myself out there!
Keenan has always been the token black person on the show, just like Tracy Morgan, Chris Rock, and Garrett Morris were. As long as dumb black people continue applying for the job, Lorne MIchaels will continue to hire them to fill his "quota". It's sad.
I wonder if they have any black writers on the show...probably not any who have some common sense....
Wow, just wow...just when you think things can't get any worse, the coons show that it can.
unbelieveable
Thanks for the shout-out. As long as The Root claims to be the black perspective and those that support it, Satan's Network and all the other "black" oriented media/output with such CRAP then yes I will call for it all to burned down.
Now we need other things to replace it.
@ Shell
I'm with you 100%.
The thing is, everyone knows that we have NO one to defend us publicly. When are Skip Gates, Steve Harvey, pro-athletes, AL SHARPTON and Jesse J. etc..., going to speak up about the defamation of black women? We all know that answer. And since some BW are so desperate for ANY kind of representation, they are eating up this 2-Bit chick who is probably well aware that she has a limited shelf life. I'm not going to lie, my new rule is if you are over the age of 18, and you admire/listen to this woman... you need to ask yourself why.
If it wasn't for overweight black women jokes, Keenan wouldn't have a JOB on SNL. Errrrybody knows that. I haven't watched the show in years and even I know that. It really is pathetic. Also, Martin Lawrence is coming out with another Big Momma's House movie again, and I've already heard several white people questioning why all of these big-name black comedians only play black women as of late (i.e. Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy, etc...), when they SHOULD have enough clout at this point to have projects where they are masculine heroes.
Nikki is being held hostage by evil men who just want to make money off her?
Why doesn't she just be a strong black woman and QUIT the show because her values will not allow her to devalue her fellow black women?
Would you make the same claim of black men who perpetuate stereotypes in the media?
Are gangsta rappers being held hostage by evil white producers and record companies?
Oh I forgot, y'all like white men.
What is wrong with you people this is just comedy. Please don't let things like this beat you down. What I see is three black people working, this is just a job. Back in the day we were beat and sold on blocks valued as stocks of animals. Raped, abused used as rugs on cold floors. Their are other issues that we should focused on. All of us have asses, at least Nicki is using hers in a positive way, but I guest no one would say anything if she used it as a hoe. Let us rally behind our black people who are on the grind and support them as they further their carriers . Maybe one of them will give back or provide a path for others to follow. I really enjoy seeing them entertain on SNL more so than watching the local news, as some rape, murder and rob. We as a people need to stick together and stop hating on the ones who are doing something positive.
I agree with promoting projects and films that paint positive images, because I agree, that is what there is not a lot of right now.
I will say this, though, that we are all individuals and we need not look to others to represent us, but that we have to step up and represent ourselves. And we shouldn't victimize ourselves expecting the all in the world to be so unintelligent to believe every stereotype they see. I've had plenty-o-Persian, Arab, Latin, European in undergrad and black and white men (post college) out right say to me: "you are not like 'them'." and by "them" you can bet, they most certainly meant this continued image that is, from what I hear, running rampid in the media: Ghetto baby-mamma with the bad attitude but big butt and a smile.
I've had 2 black girl-friends who've returned from Dubai, telling me that the natives approached them respectfully because wore what was considered suggestive clothing (shorts/ low tops) in malls/public, to let them know that "they should know better"--they should know how to be appropriate. One friend explained that they would leave white women alone, almost insinuating that they almost expect white poeple to be more abnoxious, so they don't even bother correcting them. So be mindful that respect levels change depending on each own's beliefs.
I hope we remember our self-respect and the power we posess as an individual representing nothing else but ourselves and our values. "Yes Oprah: b*tches, h*es and n*ggas DO exist," but it's MY own responsibilty to not emulate that if that is NOT what I am. Believe me, people may misjudge because they do not know you, but let that be their ignorance, and not yours. They will change their tune once they take a closer look--and if they don't, they probably couldn't do anything for you anyway. "Respect the respectable, and when you respect yourself, the Respectable will respect you"--Ma used to say that.
While reading the Washington City Paper I came across this tidbit that naturally made me think about the whole Nicki Minaj and imagery debate.
So here is the background...Asian actors trying out for a mascot job at Snyder-run Six Flags were allegedly told during 2008 auditions. After the 2006 firing of Mr. Six, the longtime mascot Snyder deemed “creepy,” the theme park chain’s marketing team hired a Japanese actor to scream “More flags! More fun!” in a vaguely Asian accent in TV commercials. The Chicago chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, which publicized the “Charlie Chan” angle, was among the advocacy groups critical of the effort. The campaign was canceled very shortly after its debut.
Here is the letter:
Dear Six Flags representatives,
The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) is perturbed by the use of offensive Asian stereotypes in your latest television commercial. In the most recent Six Flags ad campaign, a disembodied Asian man yells the amusement park’s tagline, “More flags! More fun! Six Flags!” in a mock Asian accent.
Using such an outdated, debilitating stereotype only perpetuates the idea that Asians can’t speak English properly. Though we understand the commercial was made for the purpose of humor, there is nothing funny about resorting to degrading jokes that prey on others for a cheap laugh. Surely, there must have been a host of other ways to create a humorous television commercial that did not rely on offensive, outdated stereotypes.
According to those who went in for the original casting call, we also understand that Six Flags casting directors were specifically looking for an Asian man who could emulate Charlie Chan or who could “talk like [his] grandfather.” Veritably, many of us have grandfathers who were born here and speak with American accents.
The JACL urges you stop running this ad and to rethink future advertising campaigns. There is never a need to go in for a cheap laugh at the expense of others.
And we have commenters supporting Niki to persue a career in acting.

The thing is, everyone knows that we have NO one to defend us publicly. When are Skip Gates, Steve Harvey, pro-athletes, AL SHARPTON and Jesse J. etc..., going to speak up about the defamation of black women?
Because such defamation really doesn't exist. What you have are some women who nitpick due to a desire to complain about SOMETHING. This is a comedy skit parodying stereotypical behavior. You want the stereotyping to stop? Stop acting that way.
And yes, many black women act that way. ALL stereotypes have a basis in fact even if they are exaggerations and overgeneralizations. Comedy exaggerates and I can point out numberous white female characters who are stereotypical. Victoria Jackson played a ridiculously dumb blonde character on SNL. No white men protecting the white woman image she portrayed.
Either stop acting a certain way or accept that people will portray you that way. Black women are no less protected than any other women.
@ MesaATLien: Heehee, lemme guess. Breaking the stereotype one bit of proper english at a time? Throwing the dead fish eyes look at anyone who acts funny because "yu be likin' white boiz an' dat's wrong"?
Good to know I'm not part of a one-woman club, here. ^_^
@skf: don't get cute.
You know we aren't solely blaming the black men on SNL -- they're just as dimwitted as Minaj herself. And preferring white guys has nothing to do with it. In fact, you think getting online and being an arse is HELPING steer BW in IR towards BM? Trololol, MAY-JOR lapse in logic there. Go get butthurt somewhere else. You reek of troll.
This is pitiful. The sad thing is, the girl seems like she has some sense. Either she's not calling her own shots or she just has terrible taste. I'd say it's a combo of both. If this skit was actually funny and sophisticated in any way than maybe I'd appreciate it, but it's not funny at all. I guess since there was an actual black woman on the show that night, Keenan wanted to seize the opportunity to play a man for a chance. SMDH
SNL does sketch satire. It skewers everyone, every week for over 30 years. As someone said, comedy often has a basis in fact then runs it out to its illogical conclusion. You must have missed the comment about Jewish women in this sketch, which I thought was the funnies line in the whole bit. The sketch's biggest sin was that it wasn't terribly funny. Amusing but not all that funny. It's sad to see black women so anal and humorless. I get that you don't like it but in the grand scheme of things, the sketch means nothing.
As for the young lady featured in the sketch, I watched her perform her little song and thought "Patti Labelle--been there, done that."
@lildiva4U
Whatever complaints that Asian activists could level against Six Flags PALES to what the sitcom "Community" has planned. Click image below:

An Asian guy in Blackface? And you though NBC got in trouble with the SNL skit above.
NBC's come a long way from "The Cosby Show." Really sad.
"If it wasn't for overweight black women jokes, Keenan wouldn't have a JOB on SNL. Errrrybody knows that. I haven't watched the show in years and even I know that. It really is pathetic. Also, Martin Lawrence is coming out with another Big Momma's House movie again, and I've already heard several white people questioning why all of these big-name black comedians only play black women as of late (i.e. Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy, etc...), when they SHOULD have enough clout at this point to have projects where they are masculine heroes."
@DailyLattes: I so agree with you. It seems as if nowadays Black male comedians can't hold their own if they are not stereotyping Black women. It's as if they know that they have no variety, can't tell jokes, and are plain and simply not funny, so they pull the easiest scapegoat just to keep working. Heck, Even Eddie Murphy - who although offensive at times, used to be able to do a funny movie with a plot - has now joined the rest of the crap pool of other Black comedians using Black women stereotypes to make his money. These fools nowadays can't make a plot or a story line, so they basically fall back on cheap shots to get laughs.
But SNL'ers like Keenan, et al also, IMO, reflect how hard it is for comedians who don't stereotype BW to get a job if they don't rag on Black women.
For example, I remember that after Eddie Murphy made Boomerang, I think Pat Buchanan took out a full page editorial in the Chicago Tribune just to say that Boomerang was false because Black people didn't own businesses, walk around looking like professionals, or run ad agencies. I kid you not. While most in the MSM aren't as outright and blatant as Buchanan, all he did was express what many only want to see of Black people. It seems like ever since Boomerang, most of Murphy's movies have either played to BW stereotypes or have otherwise sucked. Even something as silly as Boomerang was deemed - really pathetic.
And I think that's the problem today. Whites and the MSM want to keep up degrading images because they are threatened by any non-stereotypes, particularly of Black women (i.e. see the uptick in hate since Michelle Obama became First Lady), and they know they can always keep the hate coming with Blacks willing to put us down for personal gain.
And to add insult to injury, all this hatred about Black women are being done in the same vein of the manufactured stereotypes of old about Black women, only now with Black faces, particularly male, as the purveyors of hate.
@ Harrold - Black women are no less protected? Ladies? Ladies who are reading this blog did you catch this? This HEY-auh kneegrow is on a blog SPECIFICALLY for the protection of black women and girls and is telling me that we're just as protected as any other group of women. Harold, perhaps you haven't heard of lil' ole countries called South Africa, The Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Jamaica. Or neighborhoods like the South Bronx, - you know what, heck let's bring out the fact that Jay-Z got his start in terrorizing black neighborhoods. What kind of PUNK comes on a blog and says that black women are nit-picking when if you so much as happened to pick up a newspaper, magazine, or trade publication, black women have been defamed with NO consequences? I mean, yes, that's a rhetorical question (b/c we already know what kind of punk), but why are you HERE with that nonsense?
@ Antonio - I guess spell check can't fix not knowing the write (oh excuse me, right) word to use. Oh well, maybe someday. Why do you have a problem with us focusing on THIS issue? THIS defamation IS an issue, it just happens to be one that probably goes against your lax entertainment standards. Speaking of slavery, have you even seen a plantation by the way? I've noticed that the black folks quick to pull slavery out to escape talking about the topic at hand have only seen un-spun cotton in a nail salon or barber shop. Much less even know what town their black ancestors fled slavery from. And what the EFFF is POSITIVE about this 2-Bit chick? Actually, don't answer that, I just hope that young black women and girls reading this right now realize that not ALL of us grew up in enough depravity to find Nicki Minaj an example of ANYTHING but a confused young woman from a broken home. I don't even KNOW about this girl and I'm willing to put money down that her household was abusive.
@ Innovative21 - Wow. Really? Really. Figures. Well, I tell you what. Since you don't seem to have a problem with the dominant way that your feminine image (or image that has been scrubbed of femininity) then why are you complaining on this blog? I'm not comfortable with someone else's ignorance keep me from certain opportunities b/c some black folks are so broken and BROKE that "coonin" is the only way to get a paycheck. I shouldn't have to "fight" against THAT mess being what's publicly accepted which whether or not you are aware of it, is what you stated. These kneegrows should have to fight to be trashy, not the other way around.
@ Not Afraid of Satire - Boo please. NEXT> >>>>>
For the folks who don't seem to get it: NOT ALL OF US GREW UP IN AREAS WHERE NICKI MINAJ WOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED IN OUR FRONT DOORS. Even as a child. This skit is trashy, sad, and frankly, I wish some of ya'll would just stay on sites where you clearly are more comfortable with no one having standards, a safe childhood, or adequate writing skills.
@NotAfraidofSatire: "SNL does sketch satire. It skewers everyone, every week for over 30 years. As someone said, comedy often has a basis in fact then runs it out to its illogical conclusion. You must have missed the comment about Jewish women in this sketch, which I thought was the funnies line in the whole bit."
First of all, Black women are not anal. We are pointing out the BARRAGE of insults that we get DAILY that other groups do not. Your insistence that the ONE LINE about the Jewish women in the SNL sketch should pacify Black women's complaints when an ENTIRE sketch degrading Black women from head to toe (her mouth, her fingernails, her hair, her clothes, her butt) and the ONLY women called a HO on network TV) was made, then it shows what kind of RACIST you are. I know satire, and this is not it. The jewish and other white girls mentioned were called none of these things, and these words were not used in reference to them either. Being called b*tches and hos from every medium is not satire, it is purposeful insulting made to kill the soul of our young Black girls and women, and make us look bad to everyone in America.
We all know that there are plenty of Black women (and Black men) who have lowered their self-esteem to such a point that they will do or say anything. Just as there are plenty of non-black women who act in the same way. The difference is that for non-blacks, their degradation isn't being broadcast to all of America as representative of their ENTIRE group. On the other hand, for Black women, it is being intentionally pushed through very powerful mediums that reflect on ALL Black women, ALL the time.
The more something is said, the more it's believed and the insults come every day, always on the backs of Black women. If you can't see that, you're either a plain anti-Black woman racist and sexist, or you're just plain dumb.
There have always been plenty of Black men who have shot each other, robbed banks, raped women, etc but you damn well best believe that most Black men will tell you in a minute that they are not all like that and have organizations that stand up for them.
All of these images and stereotypes are doing nothing but killing US, Black women. It's character assassination of a whole group, and anybody who tells you otherwise - be them Black, white, or anything else - is just trying to make their money by degrading us.
I'm sick of this. EVERYONE thinks they can say whatever they want to or about Black women now, any trashy old thing, and get away with it. We are the only group of women this is happening to. It doesn't matter who you are or what your background is if you're a Black woman - rich, poor, smart, businesswoman, wild child, party girl, siren, whoever - we're all being equally called Bitches, HO's, fat, ugly, etc from EVERY medium now. SNL (calls you a HO), Don Imus (calls you a HO), Helena Andrews (calls you a B*tch), Shonda Rhimes (casts you as a B*tch), and certain members of the Hip hop music industry (calls you every negative under the sun) are no different from each other.
They all hate Black women in some form or another and when Black men are sitting up on TV and in videos calling you the same thing what more is there to say? While much progress has been made in some areas, definitely, overall It's a really sad state of affairs for Black women.
DailyLatters. Remember this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RrQ4FWjijI
The only woman to give a testamonial in the skit is a white woman. So yes, white women are called "hos" on SNL. I say that black women are no less protected than other women. This is one blog by one individual. You have blogs dedicated to white supremacy and black inferiority. Just because a blog focuses on a certain notion doesn't make that notion accurate.
I can cite China, Cambodia, Arab nations, etc. where women are oppressed. I tend to use "black" as I would use "African American". I don't speak for 3rd world nations. In western nations, black women are no less protected than any group of women. Studies show that black women have the highest self esteem of all other groups of women.
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/236874/there_are_differences_in_selfesteem.html
So clearly, black women are being uplifted as opposed to being demeaned. No amount of childish name calling will change this.
preach AJ, preach!! :)
Harold, Can you explain how black women have higher self esteem??
But Harrold, why should any woman be called "ho" or any other such name? Do you personally enjoy such? And what is so bad about African people, African women in particular, defending ourselves when attacked? If our self-esteem was so high AS A COLLECTIVE, we wouldn't have so many of us in jail on non-violent drug charges; in jail for crimes as an accomplice before or after the fact with some "brother", etc.
We have a long way to go, but Nicki Minaj, et.al, ain't helping us at all! :(
@HARROLD: Fine. So you want me to say that just because white women were called hos on SNL that it makes everything OK now? I don't think so. Especially now that you've proven they just happened to be called a derogatory name created by Black men to call Black women.
"Ho", although I know it's a variation of whore, was created by certain Black men to degrade Black women. So it shouldn't be used ever and it was still used in reference to Black women.
People like you are the reason why Black women are killed and degraded everyday - in the media and in real life. The old "white people do it to" doesn't hold water with me. You're right. White people people stereotyped and devalued Black women as whores, obese, mammies, jezebels, ugly etc and they were the ones who started that.
But it doesn't mean that just because they did their evil that Black women should now accept it from the likes of you, who I assume is a Black man. Black men, in cahoots with white MSM execs, do not have the right to go around making fun of or degrading Black women. And we definitely DO have the right to speak up about it.
I see more negative stereotypes in these modern days about Black women - coming from Black people now, particularly Black men making money off of it - than any of the black-and-white hollywood movies of old (like the 1930's and 1940's).
So because whites lynched Black people and called Black men a bunch of lazy, stupid, rapists criminals, Black women should start calling you the same too? If I go by your theory of "whites do it too", then we should. And also make movies, music, and other media espousing our hate. Only an IGNORANT like you, Harrold, would imply such stupidity.
I'd like to hope that you don't speak for most Black men, or then Black women really are in trouble.
I initially had a whole host of things to reply to Harrold. But I won't. I have some deadlines to meet so I'll make this quick. Ladies, (especially young ones), notice the kneegrow known as Harrold denying, and then swept your public defamation under the rug. He probably never read the article in Economics that suggested that you marry men out of prison to keep the white population insulated from black male criminals. He probably never saw the BET Awards (although Lord willing neither did you) where Lil Wayne had his child(ren?) that he fathered as a teenager dancing on a stage while he sang (groaned?) about "****** Girls in the World." He might have missed the clue that the NYT (New York Times) lost a significant profit in the last bit (which is why me and mine suspected that they were running Black Women articles with comments enabled while NOT doing the same with other groups), and that this has been public knowledge for anyone who is a long-standing reader. He probably listens to Jay-Z and agrees that he's got 99 problems but a ****** ain't one, especially since AA Black women are the only female group on the planet to be more financially secure than the men, and are more educated. So no, the ****** that are referred to aren't a problem... dudes like Harrold ARE.
ESPECIALLY the young ladies... these type WEAK kneegrows are who you need to avoid!!!! Is he on a black MEN'S site uplifting your image? Is he on a black MEN'S site correcting foul brothers? What pray tell, could be his purpose of coming to a black women's advocacy site and telling you to shut up and move along? WE ALL KNOW THE ANSWERS TO THESE RHETORICAL QUESTIONS. Use this as a teaching moment of WHO to NIG-NORE.
Economist, not Economics.
Right on DailyLattes, right on! Preach! Preach! :) :)
Hi DailyLatter,
In truth, more white women are attending and graduating college than white men and this seems to be the case for practically all groups in America. So the trend is overall one of women getting better educated than men. With regard to blacks, it seems that the gender gap in education is larger than with other groups and that is what stands out, but there is a gap in all groups with women in the educational lead.
In the case of income, black men still on average have higher incomes than black women and on average, higher net worths, but the gender income gap between black men and women is smaller than with other groups, which is what stands out. So it seems that relative to the men of their group, black women do better than other women.
Black men, as well as other men, probably have higher incomes due to receiving more professional degrees (which leads to higher paying professions).
I was interested in the article in Economics. Can you reference where I can find and read it? The concept is interesting. Thanks.
just for the record, changing posting names doesn't really shield your identity, but feel free to try. carry on.
BWHAHAHAHAHAHA at the failed log-in. Thanks. I needed that. Notice the kneegrow known as Harrold & Jamie P. was mostly interested in the Economist article where you ladies were encouraged to date criminals. That article is why I no longer purchase the magazine. And yes, I was a reader/purchaser since college.
Anywho, for ya'll who were curious if I was wrong in my statements keep in mind that the first black American millionaire was a black woman, and the first black American BILLIONAIRE was a black woman. Folks can google Bill Cosby's speech at Spellman for themselves to see/hear the hard evidence of black wealth, now and in the future. Or the NYTimes article (just don't pay for it) about how Harlem churches have been going under b/c the previous generation of Black WOMEN who always paid tithes are dying out and our generation of Black WOMEN ain't putting in that kind of steady cash anymore. Ask yourself this, when black folks need a favor, how many are turning to their mothers, aunts, and GRANDMAS instead of the men in their families, which is par for the course in the rest of ALL HUMANITY. Like I said... Nig-Nore.
This is the most disgusting thing I have seen in a long time.
Hi DailyLatters. I believe that William Alexander Leidesdorff was the first African American millionaire and Robert Johnson was the first African American billionaire.
