NAACP Legal Goons Invade WAOD Comments Section Following Calls for Jealous to RESIGN

What is The Blogmother's number one pet peeve? No seriously, I have a bunch, but what will send me up to level 10 in less than 2 seconds.... astro turfing.

On Wednesday, I called for the resignation of NAACP President Benjamin Jealous.  I did so not because he was "snookered" I did so because I believe at this juncture in his personal development and the current political and technological environment, he is unfit to lead as demonstrated by his inability to accept complete and total responsibility for his organization's bad acts. No body made the NAACP condemn Shirley Sherrod before speaking to ITS OWN MEMBERS who were present at her speech. No one made the NAACP condemn Shirley Sherrod before getting its hands on a tape of her speech shot by ITS OWN MEMBERS. Nobody forced them to pick a fight with a foe they are CLEARLY too inept to respond to in a strategically sound and competent way. The NAACP took the path of LEAST RESISTANCE and when they were called on it they tried to deflect responsibility for their own BAD ACTS.  Leaders take responsibility. LOSERS make excuses.

Well apparently other bloggers picked up on my post and its been bubbling up for about two days and I guess somebody at the NAACP decided that it was time to strike back at this blog for raising reasonable objections to the NAACP's wretched record of throwing Black women under the bus.

In those cases where an individual or an individual associated with someone I have criticized comes into my comments section and identifies themselves, we always bump their comments up to post level. That's fair, If I attack you in this space, you have a right to defend yourself. If I'm wrong, I'll say I'm wrong (are you paying attention Ben Jealous). But Heaven help the person that's an EMPLOYEE of an organization we criticize on this blog who fails to disclose their association in the comment's section. And heaven help them if they engage in personal attacks on WAOD community members from their employer's computer network.

You know good and darned well that your comments would have been perceived by other readers differently if they knew you were an interested party, but instead of saying "Hey! the NAACP pays my bills! AND I'm using NAACP resources to attack you!" you slither in here like a Baptist preacher purchasing porn with the church's prepaid debit card on Good Friday.

I can spot "interested" parties in my comments section from a mile away. In this case, I didn't even have to do my trusty IP lookup I just googled the name under which the comments were being made, Anson Asaka and found out that he's  regional counsel for the NAACP. Now to avoid a rush to judgement, its possible that someone who works for the NAACP who hates Anson's guts might be posting under his name, but I doubt it. This is what the NAACP website says about Mr. Asaka's current position with the NAACP:

REGIONAL OVERSIGHT

Each Attorney in the Legal Department oversees Civil Rights legal issues that may arise in their respective Regions of the United States. These legal issues relate directly to the NAACP’s mission and are typically issues that NAACP units, which includes NAACP State Conferences, have resolved to address.

REGION II

Anson Asaka

Massachusetts
New Hampshire
Maine
Vermont
Rhode Island
Connecticut
Delaware
New Jersey
Pennsylvania
New York
Europe

but then I was curious... would this idiot actually use NAACP resources to attack this blog? Nobody could be that stupid.  .  . yes. yes folks they can be THAT stupid:

MCI Communications Services, Inc. d/b/a Verizon Business UUNET65 (NET-65-192-0-0-1) 65.192.0.0 - 65.223.255.255 NAACP UU-65-207-113-160-D6 (NET-65-207-113-160-1) 65.207.113.160 - 65.207.113.191

Y'all notice anything significant in all those numbers that the reverse IP lookup spewed back at me?   Oh Yes, NAACP. So lets get a bit more detail shall we:

CustName: NAACP
Address: **** MOUNT HOPE DR
City: BALTIMORE
StateProv: MD
PostalCode: *****
Country: US
RegDate: 2009-07-30
Updated: 2009-07-30

I blotted out the numbers in the address and the zip code as I do realize they get threats and don't want to make it too easy for the crazies, but you get my point.  The NAACP paid for the resources this man used to attack y'all and this blog all day yesterday.

This is SO typical of the POOR CHARACTER of the people in charge of this once great institution.  You won't accept responsibility for what comes out of your own mouth and then instead of taking responsibility for your own actions, you'd rather engage in a public disinformation campaign and smears. Isn't that what Breitbart did to Shirely Sherrod? Isn't that what YOU'RE whining about the Tea Partiers doing to the President? So why are you engaging in the same behavior you're condemning...... AGAIN!

I know the NAACP SUCKS at social media and whatnot, but its generally BAD FORM and UNETHICAL to not indicate that you're being paid to attack your critics and doing it from your employer's computer network.

Not only is he underhanded and sneaky, but this attorney who is responsible for "regional oversight" is such an intellectual lightweight that he had to rely on such lame attacks as calling the readers of this blog "crabs in a barrel" and "haters" and then called this blog a "gossip column" for reminding him that his bosses at the NAACP National Headquarters can't seem to keep it in their pants when it comes to the women who have the misfortune to work there. Those aren't MY conclusions, those are the conclusions of the NAACP's own internal investigation regarding the treatment of the women who work there.

The same day in May 1999 that Kweisi Mfume abruptly announced that he would not be a candidate for mayor, an internal investigative memo was sent to top officers of the NAACP describing allegations of Mfume's mistreatment of female subordinates at the organization's Baltimore headquarters.

For the next five years, the civil rights organization - still recovering from the 1994 sex scandal under former Executive Director Benjamin F. Chavis - kept that memo secret and did nothing more, even as Mfume refused to answer any questions from the board's lawyers about the allegations.

But in an internal report last year, more serious accusations were made against the former Baltimore congressman, alleging that sexual harassment and favoritism festered for years within the national office of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Within months of the completion of this 2004 investigation into his leadership, Mfume resigned as president - but, sources say, not before every board member had signed a confidentiality pledge. Baltimore Sun

So here's what's going to happen. If they are smart, someone at NAACP headquarters will pull attorney Anson Asaka to the side and tell him to start using his work computer to do LEGAL WORK on behalf of the NAACP and stop trolling around "gossip columns" on the company dime.  They are also going to instruct their employees to engage in specious attacks on the NAACP's critics on their own time. Then hopefully whoever is in charge of "communications" for the NAACP will have a chat with Anson and speak to him about the need for a coherent message from the NAACP and how important it is that employees not appear to issue public statement's on its behalf without going through the communications department. Normally I charge $450/hr for social media consulting, but y'all can have that advice for free. It's my personal gift to you.

Look. I don't want to fight with the NAACP. I said my peace. Ben Jealous should have taken his lumps like a man instead of copping out talking about being "snookered" into exercising poor judgement, abandoning the concept of due diligence and tossing aside a Black woman's career to make the NAACP look good. I'm pretty sure Ben Jealous and the National HQ staff are embarrassed, demoralized, and reeling. You don't gave egg on your face, you have an entire omelet!

I've been there. In January 2008, I was "snookered" by a source as well. I made public statements as a result of the information this source provided. I attacked people based on what was factual information, but I ended up being a pawn in a much larger scheme by the source to extort money out of Proctor and Gamble and Viacom. Upon realizing that I'd been had, I took steps to remedy the situation. I called the NY Times to withdraw my support from the source. I renounced my earlier support on this blog. I was attacked publicly and more savagely attacked privately for that decision, and I never ONCE publicly blamed anyone else for what came out of my mouth or was posted on this blog. Why? because at the end of the day I am the only one that can "snooker" me into saying something.  I asked for the forgiveness of my blog audience, some extended that forgiveness, others did not. I took my lumps because that's what leaders do! It was an extremely painful experience for me as I was a relatively "new" blogger and I was in minute number 19 of what I thought would only be 15 minutes of fame. That "snookering" was a valuable impetuous for personal development and maturation. You're robbing yourself of an excellent growth opportunity by continuing to blame others for your poor judgement.

“Losers make excuses. Winners make explanations. Excuses don’t teach you anything and keep you from making needed changes. Explanations help you learn what went wrong and give you insights for needed changes.” Mark Sandborn

The sooner you stop trying to cover your rear and start accepting responsibility for the SELF INFLICTED damage you have done to YOURSELF the sooner you will gain insight for needed changes. You can continue to believe that EVERYONE else is the problem or you can pause for a period of personal reflection and recognize that your organization is OUT. OF. CONTROL! At every level you are careening from one public embarrassment to another. All the while schools appear to be resegregating in Raleigh, NC, Black people are headed for devastating consequences from long term double digit unemployment... oh yeah and did I mention we appear to be on the cusp of a full blow race war?

Get off of my blog and go get your mess together. Stop squandering moral authority behind gimmicks and accept the fact that some of your critics just MIGHT have a point. That has nothing to do with us being "crabs in a barrel" or "haters" or "gossips," and everything to do with you being out of your depth.

Anytime the NAACP wants to address my audience they can do so in a dignified, decent, and orderly way. Send me an email with your statement to this audience and I'll post it, but if you continue to act like petulant toddlers, I will gladly rap you on the knuckles until you get a freaking clue.

Y'all have a great weekend!

Someone's hand was caught in the cookie jar... along with his feet, mouth, etc. The fact that he was so incredibly stupid AND that he is a part of the Senior Staff of the NAACP speaks VOLUMES about the judgment of the organization.

To have an attorney who is responsible for an entire REGION, who excercises such POOR judgment, only further erodes any iota of confidence I might have ever had in the NAACP.

Thanks for the article and the mini expose. Hopefully, Asaka will run this in to his bosses and continue to embarrass himself and the NAACP.

Thank you for bringing up Raleigh. As this is my hometown, I want to point out that the resegregation is a slow creep brought about by the influx of transplants, many of whom may be Dems/voted for Obama (not just Southern white folks). It's complex and will require updated strategies to deal with the ever-shifting structure of racism.

Here Anson, let me throw you a bone:

See if you can unpack the issues that affect black women in this tragedy. Passing resolutions does nothing.

Anson lost his cool a few times and engaged in a few ad hominems. In addition, he should have identified himself as an NAACP lawyer. It probably would have led to him being cut-off and totally disengaged by the majority of the people in that post (which is probably what he feared) but now he looks worse for not having done it.

But the overwheolming majority of what he said was of substance, even if you fervently disagree with it. The number one rule of debating a hostile audience, especially on the internet, is that you have to come correctly - Maintain your cool, be upfront about important and relevant personal info, and don't argue against the person, argue against their words and ideas. Had he not violated all three, it could have been a great dialogue.

Again good post Sis. Gina,

for Anson, unfortunately, he was stupid enough to post on a blog of activists who know what they are doing AND he put his real name on his post. He never heard of Google, obviously. Plus, from the way he talked, I correctly guessed he was a lawyer. I also know this young man from his undergrad days; back them he was nice, quiet and generally very good on women's issues, I don't know what happened over the years. :(

No, most of what he said was not of substance because back in the day, he never would have used such tactics AND I remember community events where when people used such tactics, he and his BNF crew denounced them. This is why for me, his post ON THIS BLOG is most disappointing.

Lastly, many people, women and men, are calling for Hen Jealous to resign, be reprimanded or something, because this situation showed such a lack of political maturity. When the video of Sis. Shirley first came out, I googled around the 'net and found the entire video FIVE MINUTES LATER and listened to all of it. I know for a fact Hen has former NAACP chair Julian Bond on speed dial. Why didn't he call Julian and get the 411 on Sis. Shirley and who she is? Julian was in SNCC in Georgia with Sis. Shirley and her husband, Bro. Charles. So no I'm not buying it; such incompetence in horrifying. :( :(

Oh haven't these trolls fogured out when they show up being competely one-sided and obvious it's so transparent? It also never ceases to amaze me how ignorant these "educated" fools are?

The NAACP has had 101 years to ADVANCE black people so why are we worse off than ever?

July 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterFaith

Stay on the attack and we won't come under attack!!!!

Dear NAACP, please get to California and address the number of jobs that are being taken from AA and giving to illegal immigrants.

July 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLD

SMH @ this idiot.

And since I know he and his goons will still troll the comment section I just want to add this:

A "black" organization that does not care about black women and girls WILL not survive because black women and their children make up the "bulk" of the PARTICIPATING black community. If you are implicit in their demise, you are cutting off your own nose to spite your face. I know you all don't understand that or even care right now but this is true. Black women and girls are suffering and its getting worse and your constant defense and posturing for many of the black males that are causing this damage is unforgiveable.

Did anyone else hear that the NAACP is planning to meet with the Tea Party? I'm hoping that isn't true but if it is then the NAACP is in worse shape than we think.

And I agree Jealous needs to resign. The treatment of Ms. Sherrod by them was inexcusable.

July 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterVal

Hey Anson,

Is the NAACP going to call out racist, white Democrat, Jim Webb for vociferously opposing Affirmative Action programs and calling White Racism a "myth"?

I'm waiting for the public shaming.

July 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBLKSeaGoat

Wait! Are you saying the NAACP is CONSIDERING meeting with the Tea Party BEFORE Hen or WIN meets with Sis. Shirley?

ARE THEY #$%^&* SERIOUS??

July 23, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterrevmamaafrika

The way this whole situation was handled just turns my stomach. If the head is sick then the whole body is sick. I cannot understand why if Jealous was willing/able/thinking to research the entire video before speaking out he couldnt/wouldnt delegate that task to someone.

What ever happened to protecting our own FIRST. Even with my child I gather all the facts before I rush to judgment or punishment. Here is a woman that has done more in her life than the current heads of the NAACP ever have to better the world and they dismissed and tore her down without batting an eye. This whole thing prompted me to ONCE AGAIN have the conversation with my daughter about her worth and refusing too let anyone pigeon hole her in any way.

That's because he wanted to get laid. :)

Scipio~not only does Anson look like an out of touch fool, he confirmed everyone's beliefs about the organization. I personally think NAACP is too far gone to be relevant to black women (and in light of DV and Ms. Sherrod-is downright harmful). However, if you do, it's time to come to grips with the 21st century and reassess the organizations mission, structure and efforts.

LD~ the NAACP is too busy sucking up to Latinos - who NEVER orient their organizations to include AfAms. Between that and Ms. Sherrod & the Tea Party, I guess they figure if you can't beat em join em.

I can't believe this ...wait, yes I can. I am so angry at the NAACP for this. If the women of the organization don't wake up, stand up and demand some changes internally (or leave the organization in droves altogether), then I think they're too braindead/weak/whatever to ever do so. I also think the NAACP might have put this guy up to making his comments in the first place. I don't know whether it makes more sense to try to encourage women in the organization to make change within it (since they provide most of the work and money) or to abandon it completely. Jealous needs to go, and they need to return to their first mission, which is to serve African Americans interests (rather than kissing up to others--there is a difference in collaboration between equals with ethnic pride and allowing others' interests to superceed your own). They need to put forth special efforts to serve women, who provide the bulk of its resources.

I'm sorry, but just when I thought it couldn't get any worse . . . . I've been googling other articles about Sis. Shirley and what do I find? THAT DAM NAACP IS NOW TRYING TO HUSTLE SIS. SHIRLEY!

Anson, where are you? Come back out from under the rocks! Why is there now a link to your website that says, "http://www.NAACP.org/SupportShirleySherrod" Have you no shame? After all the NAACP has done to her, to cause all this mess, why do you ask the public to go to your website to see the entire video of her speech to "support" her? Is this a tactic to increase visits to the website? A tactic to increase your list of contacts to hit up people later for money? That is pretty foul; I plan to call a friend of mine in Georgia who is a friend of hers and ask does Sis. Shirley know about this? Did you have her permission to try to pimp her out like that? I am so through with the NAACP! Does WIN know about this? Whose decision was it to do this?
:( :( :(

BTW Sis. Gina, "you slither in here like a Baptist preacher purchasing porn with the church's prepaid debit card on Good Friday" is your best line yet! I will remember it for the rest of my life! :) :) :)

July 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterrevmamaafrika

First, we have the California branch of the NAACP supporting the passing of Prop 19 which would allow adults 21 years or older to possess and cultivate marijuana for personal use.

Alice Huffman, President of the California State Conference of the NAACP stated, "“We have empirical proof that the application of the marijuana laws has been unfairly applied to young people of color. … We are joining a growing number of medical professionals, labor organizations, law enforcement authorities, local municipalities, and approximately 56% of the public, in saying that it is time to (depenalize) the [adult] use of marijuana.”

Now we have Benjamin Jealous, the President of NAACP, participating in the career lynching of an American Black woman just to prove to the Tea Party (an uninformed group of angry poor Caucasians) that the NAACP does not tolerate racism from an American Black woman.

Not just any American Black woman, but a woman who has dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of poor people regardless of the complexion of their skin. A woman who opted to do God’s will instead of allowing the pain of her father’s murder by a Klansman cloud or impair her judgment while performing her job responsibilities.

Is this how you honor a Civil Rights Icon? Blank stare.

The NAACP is a relic. It outlived its usefulness long ago. I see today's NAACP as an embarrassment. This isn't Dubois' NAACP.

This is a group that gives "image awards" to rappers, child molesters, criminals... you name it. Disgusting. Add to that, episodes like the Sherrod fiasco. It reaffirms my disdain.... and why "blackness" is an embarrassment for me.

Yes that clown should resign... but that wouldn't be good enough. The group needs to be dissolved. Him resigning wouldn't change anything.... it might lead to a worse character taking over.

Feel the same way about the CBC.... another relic.

OFF TOPIC:

I had to leave you all with this... it is in the same vein of what you were discussing last week. Prepare your head for explosion. Click for article if you dare.

@Gina

Thanks for this and other posts. For someone who is supposed to be a lawyer, I found Anson's comment to be thin and of very little substance.

I find it ironic(only to a small degree) and disparaging that after a number of women like Hattie McDaniel and the now late, Dorothy Height, have given their lives to the civil rights movement, that "throwing" Black Women under the bus has become more of an increasing trend in addition to character assassination. Even though I haven't been clearly in the know concerning all of the scandals of the NAACP, I started seeing it as a Windows Dressing Organization towards the end of my membership in the youth chapter as the local parent board of the chapter seemed more concerned with collecting enough dues to be recognized as a chapter.

While this blog is good for the morale of Black Women when there are sites like BlackVoices that continues to use code language to use Black Women as scapegoats, it would be nice to have a venue to put words into actions. For instance, as I have stated previously, there needs to be tougher legislation against defamation and slander -- especially when it comes to the broad mainstream media that can be enforced outside of a civil lawsuit. Otherwise, I fear Shirley will just be one of a number of Black Women to be targeted.

when you all get a chance, please go to the NAACP website and click the link to see the Board of Directors. Why so many? It shouldn't take more than 15 people to be on a BOD to properly guide an organization. And while I'm certainly not againt older people, geez, it looks like the game room of a nursing home, with a couple of youngins around to remind them to take there meds and push them around in their wheel chairs. :)

It does look like NAACP is considering a meeting with the Tea Party Movement:

http://www.thefoxnation.com/naacp-vs-tea-parties/2010/07/19/should-tea-parties-hold-racism-summit-naacp

This is ironic since the NAACP recently accused the Tea Party of being racist even though there is no hard video evidence to support the accusation. (Personally, the NAACP should be dealing with more serious issues like Black family breakdown, rape, poverty, pedophilia, etc.)

So, it is ironic that the NAACP seems to be changing their tune about the Tea Party.

OMG...

Sorry to overload you with Rachel Maddow links, but she talked with Mr. Jealous.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/ns/msnbc_tv-rachel_maddow_show/#38335355

She quoted part of one of his statements, which horrified me because it said that "MOST IMPORTANTLY, we heard from the white farmer..."

Um, most importantly? Ok, I'm a white guy, and that idea makes me sick. When you finally bother to look into this to see if you've got the whole story, the most important thing to you is that the WHITE guy vouched for her?

Not the fact that you had the whole thing on tape,

Not Ms. Sherrod's reputation,

and Lord above, not a desire to look carefully to make sure you don't say something stupid and torpedo your organization's reputation.

*hangs head*

Madam blogmistress and every black woman in the world, I am so sorry.

Ms. Gina,

I am so proud to have found and been able to read and share this blog with other Black Women. My cousin is going through very similar character and career assassination working for the state of Illinois. She has been going through it for well over a year now because she tried to help her people to have access to the same so-called public information that others have. If you knew her history, she has always been that way even long before she went to work for the state. We use to always tell her that she is a wealth of information but she needs to make people pay for it. Black politicians are standing by watching what is happening to her and have actually joined in. A Ben Jealous is not unique when it comes to Black Women. It is easy to score points at the expense of Black Women. Some of us just can't believe what is happening to my cousin. It was because of her that a lot of us even knew who Barack Obama was. She publicly supported him when it was not popular to do so and yes there was a time it was not popular. She managed one of his campaign offices too at one time and you would think that would make the racist people she work for think twice about trying to destroy her. They have no respect for black politicians or black churches.

We all sat and watched as things began to unfold for Ms. Sherrod and we are so proud of her grace under fire. Ben Jealous should go and Ms. Sherrod should be offered nothing less than Vilsak, Secretary of Agriculture's job. We were so glad to hear Ms. Sherrod say, "all they had to do was look at my history." That is the same thing we say about my cousin, all they have to do is look at her history. On the other hand that is probably what makes them the target. Their history had already been looked at by the people that want to keep us in the dark. The moment the opportunity arose to discredit them, they took it and it was not difficult to get a Ben Jealous and others like him to get on the band wagon to validate their actions. Jealous and Vilsak must go.

I don't recall any branch of the Tea Party demanding President Obama or the NAACP have Sherrod fired for her comments (see video):

http://www.naacp.org/news/entry/video_sherrod/

Hence, the only people to blame are the First Black President and the US's Oldest Civil Rights Organization. Those are the people Sherrod should really be suing.

Y;all please go read this man's article since he clearly is trolling for page clicks. He just reiterates his ignorance and indifference. He whines about Black people "tearing down" other Black people and CONTINUES the NAACP's Dunbar Village Denial.

You organization organized a rally on behalf of the Dunbar VIllage rapists. Your local president spoke on their behalf. Her daughter was one of the rapists instructions and during the trial Maude Ford Lee's, the NAACP local President, attacked the victim in an interview she did for this blog.

So you can keep lying about your role on behalf of the Dunbar Village rapists just like the Nazi's deny the holocaust. That's just indicative of your poor character and your organization's proclivity to ignore the suffering of Black women and girls.

BUt keep on the denial. Each time you utter it, you look like a fool because anyone viewing the video and the coverage of that pro-rapist rally can clearly see that the NAACP local branch organized it as part of your nation-wide campaign to free as many violent juvenile offenders as possible.

How dare you complain about Black people tearing each other down when you threw Shirley Sherrod to the wolves. We owe you nothing. The NAACP screwed up, not us. The NAACP is the one covering up turning its female employees to sex slaves, not us.

So no, we won't wash the NAACP's dirty laundry because your dirt always lands on Black women and girls.

How many women did you watch Mfume chase around the Baltimore office? How many confidentiality agreements to cover up the sexual exploitation of women did you draft? How many victims did you help to silence?

The NAACP is not a victim here, they are the predator.

I suggest you go read about sociopathic behavior.... you're clearly demonstrating some right about now.

Anson, I just came from your blog, nice, nice. Now, you have links there for several other websites, blogs, magazines, etc. I realize everyone can read whatever they choose, but with all you have said here, why do you have a link on your blog for XXL magazine? Courageous journalism, huh?

On you blog you are dishonest, you FIRST did the name calling here, calling us "haters" and "crabs in a barrel". Our point here has always been the NAACP made a mistake that it should never had made, PERIOD. Repeatedly our point here has been, why must we women fight the racists, sexists folks AND our own people, the NAACP no less?

You're a johnny come late on this blog; many times for the past two years we have discussed the Tea Party, other White racists, etc. Are you so arrogant to believe that if you don't see something then it does not exist? Perhaps your time is better spent struggling for much needed change at the NAACP, political education classes for Hen Jealous, etc., than harassing us on this blog.

OH MY HOW FAR WE SLAVES HAVE COME. :(

@Fred, who initially posted the edited version of Mrs. Shirley Sherrod's speech? Blank stare.

Who started a movement that excluded everyone that wasn’t poor Caucasian? Blank stare.

The Tea Party and Masta Andrew Breitbart don’t get a pass in my book.

But I do feel sorry for the Tea Partiers because they are unknowingly being used by wealthy white men who have a vested interest in maintaining White Supremacy/Black Inferiority propaganda. This group of international bankers have profited tremendously from social and psychological segregation (i.e., racism, sexism and classism).

Let’s just keep it real. In this current world system of finance, there is only one color and that is green – the color of money.

July 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAttorneymom

@fred & AM Nobody is giving the tea partiers a pass or Breitbart. But far too few are pointing the equal measure of blame at Ben Jealous and the NAACP.

It was the NAACP's statement that gave the Obama administration cover to fire Shirley Sherrod. It was the NAACP's event she was speaking at. Why not call the chapter president and ask him or her what happened? Why not get a copy of the video from the NAACP chapter? Why not ask around south georgia about her work?

No, the NAACP got into a fiery situation and step on Shirley Sherrod to get out of it.

In addition, this blog has always focussed on internal issues within the Black community and its immoral leadership. There are 100,000 blog talking about the tea partiers, nobody is pointing out the NAACP's PATTERN of bad behavior when it comes to Black women. If we don't talk about it here.

And yes, I notice that the NAACP goon is a fervent reader of XXL magazine... the same publication that called the Dunbar Village victim "some hooker down in Florida."

@Gina and @Fred, I have not given either Roland Martin or Ben Jealous a pass on this one. In fact, I have added both Ben Jealous and Andrew Breitbart to my "Sit Your Azz Down/Blank Stare" list.

I will point out that Breitbart's issue with Ms. Sherrod are here liberal views not her gender or race. I've observed Breitbart for a while and he's harsh on liberals: male, female, straight, gay, Black, white, etc.

Frankly, Sherrod got a love tap compared to how Breitbart usually responds to someone he disagrees with.

Applause for Attorneymom for seeing through the b.s.I totally agree except i'd have said white (people) have a vested interest in maintaining white supremacy.

July 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTruth P.

@Truth P yes, and the Black Elite Establishment has a vested interest in making sure we pay no attention to equally deadly penis supremacy and class supremacy. As long as we focus on Fox and Breitbart, they get to continue to line their pockets on our backs.

Again, if you know Mrs. Sherrod's bio, she had MAJOR connections in the civil rights movement. Her husband was a part of the founding of SNCC and knows John Lewis quite well. So this wasn't as if the NAACP had to do a great deal of digging to find out more about Mrs. Sherrod .

SO let me be clear. Y'all can talk about Fox and Breitbart all you want to, at the end of the day, the White House booted her out without any due process and the NAACP strung her up.

July 25, 2010 | Registered CommenterThe Blogmother

excellent point Blogmother; did anyone see Hen Jealous' interview on Rachel Maddow? He practically put the rope around his own neck, if I may paraphase him, " . . . we took another look at the video . . . we made some calls . . . talked to some people . . . . found out we had friends in common, etc."

"FOUND OUT WE HAD FRIENDS IN COMMON?" Could that be John Lewis? Julian Bond? Could that be because most of the SNCC veterans still alive were at their 50th anniversary conference in April this year, at Shaw University, where SNCC began? I attended the conference and I remember meeting Bro. Charles, Sis. Shirley's husband. Veterans of the NAACP also attended this conference and I feel rather confident in saying Hen probably has some of these same people from both organizations in his Rolodex. He was just dayum lazy! :(

I now have a much greater appreciation for blogs because on this most unfortunate situation, WAOD and its faithful have dared to use critical thinking skills, offered an analysis and had the ovaries to dare ask the crucial questions THAT NO OTHER MEDIA HAS DARED TO ASK, NOT EVEN THE BLACK OWNED MEDIA! Anybody, how has BET covered this? How has Cathy Hughes' station covered this? We know what Roland Martin did, so how did Tom Joyner or Steve Harvey covered this? How did our Black Gospel radio stations cover this? How did the major Black owned newspapers cover this issue? And if I may suggest, Blogmother, please consider interviewing Hen Jealous here like you did Rev. Al about Dunbar Village. (Don't worry Anson, we'll let you prep him.) Even still, let's find the Women In the NAACP, dust them off and interview this as well. :(

Last question, shouldn't we file a missing person report for Ms. Cook, the USDA official that called Sis. Shirley, told her to pull over and submit her resignation on the spot? WTH is she? Was she kidnapped and sent into exile? Did they tie her up and put her in the basement? Did they give her a sedative, put a strait jacket on her and put her in a padded room? WE MUST KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS. Remember, Sis. Shirley said the order gave from the White House. Also, if any of you know about the ruthlessness of COS Rahm Emmanuel, I smell his paws on this as well; after all he is a former IDF soldier of Israel.

Please let's keep asking questions . . . and now I'm going to get off this blog and write a polite, firm personal letter of complaint to the NAACP, I hope the rest of you will do the same. :( :(

The above comment shows the major differences between liberals and conservatives regarding wealth.

Liberals looks at rich White people like Bill Gates and declare "He's rich because he stole from poor people and Blacks." Interestingly, liberals never offer evidence to prove their accusations are true.

By contrast, conservatives believe that rich White people should be punished IF they actually committed a crime. Otherwise, they could care less if Bill Gates has more money than they do. Saying a White guy is evil simply because he's rich is as bad as using BET rap videos as proof that all Black men are drug dealers.

Instead, the conservative would interview Gates to figure how what strategy he used to go from college dropout to multibillionaire. Then the conservative implements the strategy to go from poor to middle class and then rich.

So, you can envy rich White folk or learn from them in order to match or exceed their success.

One more thing. Is it me or does the "Punish the rich" mindset among liberals sound scarily similar to the "crabs in the barrel" mindset among too many Black people?

Just something to ponder.

Gina

Your posts have been so on point that I have not felt the need to post a comment because you and the blog audience have successfully expressed EVERYTHING that I would have wanted to say. However, I went to Mr. Asaka's site (*sigh* I won't be doing that again) and he did absolutely NOTHING but offer the "their screw-up was bigger than ours" argument which of course is pointless!!!

WTH is it with people not wanting to accept responsibility for their actions especially when they inflict harm on others!!!

He completely proved your point that he like other penises are more than willing to come to the defense of poor defenseless men (Jealous, Martin and Obama) but damn the Black woman who was minding her own business doing her job that really was about helping the less fortunate! <Black Butterfly walks away cussing and gagging looking for some pepcid>

Yes, and they've been using this same deflection strategy from the very beginning of the founding of outfits such as the NAACP, and the other Black Penis-American advocacy groups (that have come in all sorts of ideological flavors, such as the Panthers, the Urban League, and so on).

Fred,

You said, "Liberals looks at rich White people like Bill Gates and declare "He's rich because he stole from poor people and Blacks." Interestingly, liberals never offer evidence to prove their accusations are true.

By contrast, conservatives believe that rich White people should be punished IF they actually committed a crime. Otherwise, they could care less if Bill Gates has more money than they do. Saying a White guy is evil simply because he's rich is as bad as using BET rap videos as proof that all Black men are drug dealers."

All I know is that when I think of rich WM, I think of Bill Gates AND Jeff Skilling of Enron infamy. I also think about the Enron employees who lost their pensions because of Jeff Skilling and other rich, WM, corporate criminals.

I'm never pleased to be in the position of arguing with other Black folks over outside-derived ideologies. It usually does not serve AAs' interests to engage in "liberal/conservative" or "Republican/Democratic" debates. Our interests don't fit neatly into either party or ideology. Because these are all White entities. I mean that in the sense that both of those political parties and ideologies are dedicated to apportioning the spoils of American wealth and tax dollars among competing factions of Whites. American Blacks serve as disposable servants for both parties and ideologies.

@ Fred. Please pick up a book and read Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers. See it’s interesting that anyone would continue to defend those 1%er’s at all. Rarely and I mean rarely to folks amass power and money without having resources and connections. See Gates wasn’t just some middle class college drop out. Please read the except from Outliers below.

“Gates had the good fortune to attend a private school in Seattle that had a computer club. This was 1968, when most universities did not have a computer club. And Gates' club didn't have an ordinary computer — they had an ASR-33 Teletype, one of the most advanced computers of its day. Gates was hooked on computers and began programming in the eighth grade! This led to other experiences in Seattle, and by the time he graduated, Gates had practically lived in the computer lab for five years. He was closing in on 10,000 hours and was ready to take full advantage of the opportunities he soon would receive.
Now, I believe that many parents have implemented the strategy above or at the very least work hard to ensure that their children are at least competing on a level playing field.

But, here’s another example of how those 1%ers continue to snooker the tea party folks. Now Wachovia's et al Drug leads a list of firms that have moved dirty money for Mexico’s narcotics cartels--helping a $39 billion trade that has killed more than 22,000 people since 2006. Well, what happen to those banks that laundered money? Nothing! Just a promise that they wouldn’t do it again. So they get to keep not only the money, but their jobs.

@thelildiva4u - shhhh! Rather than apply some level of logic to the question of disproportionate wealth in this nation, rather than assuming that liberals or minorities might have some basis for criticizing wealth inequality or questioning the ways in which racial narratives cause poor whites to vote/work against their own best interests (thereby ensuring a divided working class that poses no real threat to those in power), it's far more gratifying for folks like fred to go all paternalistic on us and lecture us about hard work and boot straps.

Sorry about that disruption fred. Please, speak to us about the value of education and why we shouldn't be like our Cousins Pookie and dem. Maybe I'll pause long enough in opening my monthly check from the gubment to make my 11-year-old daughter turn off BET and hang up with her 26-year-old boyfriend so she can come read, too.
