The Blogmother
For those of you who were forlorn about your efforts over the past two weeks related to holding MSNBC accountable for employing highly melanated klansmen . Here is another sign that your work is getting the attention you were looking for. Online activism is like gumbo... sometimes you just got to let the pot simmer. Y'all made The Washington Post's Black-oriented site, TheRoot:
See you at the Thursday chat. I'm reading the 4-hour Work Week by the by. There's going to be some changes 'round here.
Initially, Touré deleted the tweets and tried to blame his "cousin" for commandeering his Twitter account, but eventually he reportedly apologized. At the not-so-gentle urging of the blog, What About Our Daughters, MSNBC, which employs Touré as a part-time contributor, just released a statement distancing the network from his comments. The Root

Is there anyway we can have this VILLAGE IDIOT removed from all the media outlets he appears in? His entire body of work has been a JOKE!
The story made onto Jackandjillpolitics.com too!!!

Does Toure have some high power relatives at MSNBC? apparently the Michael Jackson fans don't like him either for some things he said after his death. I don't know anyone that actually likes Toure.
Racialicious also has an interview with the author of Wench who provides another good answer why Toure is wrong.
The conversation over at TheRoot is about as dated and circular as it gets. In fact, Velez comes off as actually confirming Tourex's comments.
JJP has a better discussion thread going on.
And since BWB will be in DC I would like to volunteer AND participate. I'll register next week.
Well, perhaps some of us need to simply ask at a public gathering why Toure made such remarks and why he won't apologize to US SISTERS?
This weekend, Toure is scheduled to be at the 10th National Black Writers Conference, Medgar Evers College, City University of New York. On Sat. March 27, 10 am to 11:30 am, he is to be on a panel, "The Impact of Hip Hop and Popular Culture in the Literature of Black Writers." The other panelists are Steven C. Fullwood, Felicia Pride, moderator is Karen Hunter. Hummm-mm, let's see now, I'm not suggesting folks be disruptive of the conference, loud talk, etc., but I am suggesting he be held accountable, simply by somebody asking him a few simple questions, "Why did you say those things on your Tweet at MSNBC about Black women, rape and slavery?" Why did you lie about it, saying your cousin got a hold of your Tweet account?" and "Why have you refused to apologize directly to us Black women?"
Believe me, if he ever comes to my city, if it's at a date and time that does not conflict with work or another committment, I 'll be there to ask him those three questions! :)
All I can say is when I read what he posted I was sick. A black man who is laying up with any thing that is not a black woman need to simply mind his own business. His time, effort and love is not invested in black women and He needs to just keep moving on. I am not bothering you so why bother me. He is just a scavanger making money off of black people. I just don't understand why black folk who are always choosing other will just not leave the rest of us alone
Touré X (can't forget the x) reminds me of this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNBt4srCn84
Kim,
Who Tourex lays down with isn't the issue. The remarks were disgusting. Having a black woman next to him would not lessen the impact of the remarks or give Tourex a "pass" to say them. So I absolutely resent any implication that his black authenticity card would give him license to be a damn fool.
Gina I did get the sites you posted, as well as the instructions on what to do. Sorry I couldn't make the Chat last night.
Toure's hatred for black women does take on an added element of depravity when he's with a non-black woman though. Lest anyone forget he was the one who wrote that Martha's Vineyard piece where he attributed calling Michelle Obama a "ghetto girl" to an anonymous "source" that was probably him all along. What's still interesting is why so many blacks hadn't figured out his utter disdain for us until now and those that still support his career. Could you imagine an Asian man saying Asian women got privileges from being raped by American soldiers during the Korean or Vietnamese wars or a Jewish man saying that about Jewish women being raped by Nazi soliders? First of all they wouldn't but if they did their communities would have immediately policed their behavior and they'd be experiencing consequences that would send a message their behavior was not to be tolerated. It's nice others are now finally demanding some accountability but he's just the tip of the iceberg.
And please note, Toure is named after Pres. Ahmed Sekou Toure, the first president of independent Guinea, West Africa, who also helped lead the country to independence from France. Pres. Toure's respect for women is legendary; too bad Toure does not live up to that great man and his great legacy. :(
