HAPPY PHIL GRIFFIN DAY: MSNBC's "Nuclear Option" (Honorable Mention-Alana Russo)
Monday, March 22, 2010 at 9:23AM
The Blogmother
It's Monday so that means its HAPPY PHIL GRIFFIN DAY! Yes, today we celebrate the leadership of MSNBC President, Phil Griffin and his outstanding achievement in corporate dithering and cultural insensitivity!

To recap, MSNBC has a history of hiring people who are racist and misogynist. Now when some of these people like David Shuster quip about political candidates pimping out their Non-black daughters or throw Twitter Tantrums at non-Black men, MSNBC's leadership acts swiftly to PUBLICLY rebuke those folks. However, when the targets of MSNBC's on-air talent are African American women, MSNBC's leadership suddenly develops a case of raging indecisiveness. It took advertisers refusing to sponsor his show to get MSNBC to drop Don Imus. There was no proactive leadership in that case and most recently when MSNBC Contributor Tourex went on a rant chortling about Black women being raped during slavery, MSNBC's leadership once again remained silent FOR ALMOST A MONTH!
In fact, if readers of this blog hadn't bothered to call and complain REPEATEDLY to the point that Mr. Griffin's assistant memorized all of your individual names, numbers and voice patterns, MSNBC would have ignored this latest example of race and gender hatred from within it's rank.
Even when MSNBC finally issued a statement. It was a piss poor one at that. Dripping in cultural insensitivity and non-Black privilege. Mr. Griffin's spokesheeple, Alana Russo took it upon herself to issue a public statement saying that she and Mr. Griffin had accepted Toure's apology on behalf of offended Black women.
Now as I predicted when I read this idiotic statement from the ignorant Alana Russo, many of you were more outraged at the GALL of Ms. Russo, who is NOT Black, thinking she was qualified or entitled to accept an apology on YOUR behalf.
Some of you, much to my annoyance, seemed to be obsessed with the fact that this statement didn't appear on CNN. You clearly need to go back and review your WAOD history. The statement NEVER ends up on mainstream media, the AFTERMATH of the statement will. Ask Debra Lee and Reggie Whatshisname. But to sooth your MSM-attention neediness, you efforts in confronting Phil Griffin for his Corporate Dithering did make the Electronic Urban Report and Journalisms.
Those aren't inconsequential news outlets, though some of you might not appreciate their reach or significance. Long before this blog made the AP Wire, we were mentioned in EUR several times. So if you keep plugging away, you will eventually get the validation from MSM you seek. I don't need MSM validation. I do what I want to do and they'll catch up eventually. They always do.
I wanted a statement from Phil Griffin, and that's what I got. Some of you aren't satisfied with this statement. So now the question is to those who are UNDERSTANDABLY dissatisfied, what do you want from MSNBC?
And think hard about that. What do you want? Who is in a position to give it to you and what are you willing to do to get it? I never pick a public fight I can't win and I never have my readers go after a goal they cannot obtain. Which is why we RARELY have campaigns on this blog. Think about it. We do this about twice a year. Three times max. Every offense isn't actionable. So in addition to this piss poor statement from Phil Griffin what are your new demands? And what are you willing to SACRIFICE to have those demands met. And be specific.
Now I've been at this for 21 Blog Years - Which is 3 years in regular ppls time. Time and stubbornness are my biggest weapons. I will eventually get ANYTHING I TRULY WANT from someone else. May take years, but I'll get it. I got what I wanted in this situation, I made Toure and INCONVENIENT NEGRO at MSNBC. That's like a chip in the front windshield- eventually there will be a nasty irreparable crack. In addition, I got a damning admission on the record. I'll just file Alana Russo's ignorant statement away for another day because I will come back to haunt her and the network again, and again, and again. She'll regret the day she didn't trot down to the NBC cafeteria and ask some Black employees whether she should issue that asinine statement. She'll be feasting on it for years, because she's going to be forced to eat those words over and over again. I completely willing to wait.
HOWEVER, If you are INSISTENT that MSNBC face some additional immediate consequences for this persistent pattern of Black woman abuse from its employees, you can join me in a chat on the What About Our Daughters Network on Thursday, March 25 at 8:00PM CST.
If there is enough SERIOUS INTEREST and DEMONSTRABLE COMMITMENT, I will introduce you to a nuclear option that will make Phil Griffin rue the day he decided to ignore your calls for almost a month and then have his dimwitted henchwoman, Alana Russo issue this asinine statement. It won't be complicated, but it does require more of a commitment than making a series of angry Tweets or making blog comments. I won't do it for you, but I will show you how to do it for yourselves. Otherwise, take this statement knit it into a blanket and I hope it keeps you warm at night.
And for goodness sakes, brush up on you WAOD history. Some of you were throwing in the towel after 1 week. Oh yea of little faith.

My big question is where are the "good" reverends Jesse and Al?
They love to jump on racial incidents like white on rice, yet I have heard absolutely nothing from them on this matter, but Jesus, that's a rant for another time.
Unfortunately, I wasn't as up on this incidnet as I'd like to be (architecture classes are a BEAST), so I couldn't peruse as much I would have liked to. =)
This is actually my first time posting a comment on your blog. I have been reading for the past year, and i must say this blog just makes me feel good about what I am doing and where I am going. I must thank you for your insight on our world and I have to give you big props. I hope you continue to write and continue to inspire others as you have inspired me.
P.S. I actually started a Live Journal account last week! Becoming a blogger is some hard work!
Well, "The Root" gives you credit Gina in an interview with the author of "Wench" Dolen Perkins-Valdez. Here ya go:
"The Truth About White Masters, Black Mistresses and Touré"

Maybe we should contact Fox News. They would love to do a piece on liberal racists/hypocrites. Play one network against the other and get our point across.
Go right ahead Trish. This is open source activism.
