SXSWi, Debra Lee's "Legacy," Gabourey Sidibe, Juanita Goggins

This week flew by fast.



I'll be speaking at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival today. I'm on the Black Blogging Rockstars Panel organized by @karsh of the Black Web Awards. Debra Lee's Legacy - BWHAHAHA!

I think we finally got to her... or at least the bad press got to her change her wicked ways. Either that or she's not actually Debra Lee, CEO of Black Exploitation Television, but a space alien wearing a human exoskeleton that looks like Debra Lee. The real Debra lee is orbiting earth right now having an aneurysm over the fact that the space alien Debra Lee rehired Ed "oh so fly" Gordon back to the network. Any day now, space alien Debra Lee is going to rehire Donnie Simpson and Sherri and Ananda. Recently space alien Debra Lee has been chatting about her "legacy."

After a noticeable transition to a pop culture entertainment network and the inauguration of President Barack Obama, BET decided it was time to take the network to a different level. [you mean from the 7th Circle of Hell to like... the 5th circle]

Lee said that it was “time to sit back with my management team and say, ‘where are we going. What do I want my legacy to be? After 30 years, what do we want to stand for?” [Um, Y'all stand for absolutely nothing] Eurweb

I guess she doesn't want CNN playing videos from BET Uncut when they do their video tribute to her. Let's review Debra Lee's "Legacy":

WAOD Network

Over on the WAOD Network, your fellow WAOD readers are chatting up a storm about Monique and Gab0urey Sidibe at the Oscars. Some think Mo'Nique is unprofessional and uncouth. Others think Gaburey Sidibe isn't as "happy" as she seems.

They are also talking about former lawmaker Juanita Goggins who died alone of hypothermia and an NPR piece about Black Male Privilege.  They are still debating someone named Nicky Minaj- never heard of her. Phil Griffin Monday!

Yes, it looks like Monday we'll be saluting MSNBC President Phil Griffin again. I'll try to figure out a way to make this fun, fresh and new for the next 52 Mondays. Yes, I said the next 52 Mondays or until such time as he issues a public comment on the Black klansman masquerading as a pop culture contributor on MSNBC. I didn't stutter 52 weeks of Phil. All Phil all the time.

I just spit out my coffee reading this. You should seriously consider doing a 1-woman stand-up among the other things you're doing.

The reason that this man has not responded is that he simply does not care. Why should he? Black women are going to continue tuning in to MSNBC regardless of the hurtful and offensive content of their programming and statements made by their employees. Oh, we fume but we continue to watch. So, why should he say anything? A few telephone calls is gonna make him apologize? Think. There is no incentive for him to do or say anything about this. There are no repercussions. Now, if we ALL stopped watching MSNBC, the sponsers would get wind of this. Black women control the purse strings by and large in most black households. We do the buying - sponsers of consumer goods would notice our absence and they will apply whatever pressure is necessary to these media heads and they would really get the message then.

@Kitty this is not the blog for conquered Black women. That's about three clicks to the right. If you are so certain we will NEVER get a response from MSNBC, then have the good grace to sit quietly in the corner and watch. OK. Just keep practicing APATHY SILENTLY!

I will never understand how ppl who aren't doing a dayum thing to help feel the need to come and actively discourage fully grown Black people from spending their time doing whatever they want. I choose to register my objection. If you choose to suffer in silence then by all means... SUFFER.

When Harriet Tubman spoke famously about Black people she COULDN'T free, she was talking about people like you Kitty.
