The Blogmother
C.B. Hanif for WAOD:
Which will the jury believe?
Avion Lawon, now 16, the youngest on trial for a brutal gang-rape? Who kept a courtoom spellbound while testifying for the state — and pointing a finger at the oldest, Tommy Poindexter, sitting at the defense table. Who said he wanted to take responsibility for his actions?
Or the Avion Lawon whom Poindexter's public defender, Carey Haughwout, said was the true ringleader in the assault two years ago. Who had to admit he has repeatedly changed his story — aiming, she said, only to avoid responsibility
"It really is your only prayer," said Public Defender Carey Haughwout. "Because they have all kinds of evidence against you."
Tomorrow at 9 a.m. the drama is set to repeat for Nathan Walker's jury, the second jury in the trial of the co-defendants being tried simultaneously.
It will be the second time for a jury to hear the myriad lurid details directly from a participant.
I have reported those all day on Twitter (cbhanif), and will have more.

i hope they all get life
Considering how difficult it is to prosecute these cases, it's practically a miracle it's being heard at all.
@Faith
Really? Even with the DNA evidence?
I feel for these victims.
We will have even more horrific episodes of this kind of savagery if we do not reign in our so-called culture (hip hop). These evil defendants grew up listening to music that calls their own race a bunch of n's and mf's and hoes. They danced to music that described murdering and beating other Black people and their so-called parents went out and bought them baggy pants, dressing them up like thugs and killers.
We are turning our children over to the devil by supporting and perpetuating this violent minstrel show that is hip hop. It's trash- ALL OF IT. You'd think a people who just got our first Afrikan American President could do better than dance to stuff that says, "We kill n--'s". Read my book. This is pure madness.
