Dunbar Village Trial Makes the AP Wire... Finally

Well, it is a miracle, the Associated Press has deigned to report on the Dunbar Village Trial AND the story made it from the regional to the national wire so the story about the opening statements and initial testimony went nationwide. We'll be monitoring the coverage in the coming days. WAOD is still the only outlet that I am aware of to have a recent interview with one of the parents of the accused and I know our reporter is working on some other leads. Of course no mention of this being a hate crime based on gender and national origin.. which is is BTW.

This is the future of media. We determine what's important and finally some others get it together and follow.

This is going to be wrenching . . . I think we can reasonably expect the victims must testify; they may not be good "eye-witnesses", but that does not mean their testimony will be useless. Maybe they can still remember the comments, gestures, etc., made by the suspects during the attacks. God help us.

Thanks for WAOD for doing this; how else would we get these details? But for real though, this should be covered by regular media so that millions across the country can see this, we shouldn't have to depend on a blog. Is Court TV covering this? There's lots of lessons to be learned here, for sure.

Gina I've been trying to get my friends in the Florida media world to follow this, and a friend of mine responded today:

"Several versions of the story made the Florida wire and what we call the "A" wire (the national/international lines). There's a lot of interest from the editors on this one and it will get international play as well because the victims are from Haiti."

So the AP is working on this. As for my friends in other areas of Florida media... haven't heard back. But I'm gonna keep pushing. This is too big and too important to be ignored.

Keep on fighting the good fight

Fatih is right, this is the next wave for new media. I love that WOAD has a reporter on the ground! I am excited about the possibilities of this concept of bloggers hiring people to report/research events mass media doesn't care to mention.

Gina, you rock!!

Peace

I'm glad that Dunbar Village is finally getting MSM attention. Nevertheless, Gina remains ahead of the curve by pointing out angles no one else will:

[Of course no mention of this being a hate crime based on gender and national origin.. which is is BTW.]

Sadly, I'm not surprised because a Black female immigrant and her son being raped by Black men doesn't fit the MSM "Narrative" of what is a hate crime.

I love the empowerment of being able to hire a reporter to cover the news that's important to us. And with all the lay-offs in the industry there should be plenty of reporters needing the work. I get a royalty check this weekend, and I'll be contributing to the chip-in. I think this is groundbreaking. Once again Gina, you're showing us how it's done.
