Vote for a Black Woman Tech Blogger to go to Antartica

In a week of foolishness and chicanery, this is a welcome relief.

Greetings Friends!

AAAS - the organization that publishes Science Magazine and serves as the online hub for all things Science, Engineering and Math has mentioned my name on one of their online outlets - Science Careers Blogs - the place to go and stay informed about all things science and career related.

Why was I mentioned by Science Careers? There is a great science outreach opportunity up for grabs and I think I am perfect for it -- becoming the official Blogger for an upcoming Expedition to the Antarctic!  I'm hoping my background in science, outreach, and ecology plus my experience in blogging will make me a shoe-in.  But it does require votes from the general public.  That's one reason I am so honored that the writers of Science Careers Blog mentioned me.

Please visit the contest page and consider voting for me.  You will be required to submit your email in order to vote. One vote per valid email.  Voting ends September 30th!

P.S.: My blog has also been nominated for the 2009 Black Weblog Awards in the Best Science and Technology Blog category.  I'd love your support in this effort, too. Nominations close July 25th!

Thank you all again for your support and community!

I appreciate the votes. It's great knowing I have so much support and being able to reach out to the people who I know are voting for me. I was wondering who was responsible for my numbers increasing in such a short period of time.

The Brown/Black Blogging community is the best, super supportive!!!

I voted for her.

Right now (on 4 July at 1:45am PST) she is at no. 17. The top vote getter is Luis Monteiro with 722 votes!

So, I'm going to help her out, and send a link to her vote page to everyone in my email address book, wherein I will instruct each person to vote for her. May I suggest that everyone else who has voted (who intends to vote) for her do the same: Tell as many people as you know (who is online) to vote for her. And tell those persons to tell their email friends to do the same, too.

I left this bit of information out of my previous comment:

She is at no. 17 with 104 votes. Monteiro is no. 1 with 722 votes...so she has a long way to go.

thanks for the support,
Redcatbiker & Fedupobserver. This has gone viral. I've seen retweets, comments on my page and even blog posts dedicated to me (like this one, I heart Gina & WOAD readers)...Wow! I had no idea this quest would touch others in such a way. I thank each of you personally.

I'm in now in 16th place with 105 votes. The top 10 line-up hasn't moved and the # of new votes they are receiving are few. But those of us in 12th -17th place are really challenging each other and will likely give the top 10 a run. My gain is one of the quickest moves up. (P. Smith from England is moving up fast, too. He's a big twitter user who has traveled the world using twitter and has over 11,000 followers.) So, I am very happy and grateful for the support from the Black/Brown Blogging community. I am really seeing our influence!!!

Thanks Gina and WOAD readers.
