Two Piece and a Biscuit Alert: NABJ Founder BLASTS News Corp "Diversity Council" Brokered by the NAACP and Rev. Al- "Low Wage" "Street Hookers"

Man o man. I was going to ignore the ri-diculousness that is the announcement that News Corp, owner of the NY Post as its penance for that controversial cartoon featuring a monkey has agreed to start a "diversity council" comprised of members  of the NAACP, National Action Network, 100 Black Men of American, and the National Urban League.

When I saw that list, I quipped, internally so as not to alarm my neighbors, that that council was going to be about as "diverse" as the incoming class at the Citidel. TRUST and believe there won't be any WOMEN on this "diversity" council. Who defines diverse? The same 5 Black people that are on every other council. And you can trust no Black person that isn't based in DC or NY is going to be on this "diversity" council. But again, I was going to file this under "interesting, but not post worthy" then came along Mr. Richard Prince at "Journalisms" if you think bloggers can bring the snark, we ain't got nothing on cranky journalists ( I know "cranky journalist" is kinda redundant these days) Anywho, I'm not the only one that scoffed at this "diversity council" makeup, but Roger Witherspoon one of the founders of the Association of Black Journalists, "which grew into NABJ three years later" was not having any of it:
"if you look at the makeup of his advisory group, there are no journalists involved. What the hell does the urban league know about journalistic practices?

"the only thing Rupert has committed to with this advisory group is paying for lunch twice a year. that's a low wage even for a street hooker."Journalisms

Oh, I'm in alt. I think I am. I think I have found my snarkilicious soulmate. Mr Witherspoon, let's start a blog, a radio show, a magazine, a media empire!  "That's even low wage for a street hooker" BWAHAHA! Hilarious, yet sadly true. Bring back the old school Black journalists!

They  mobilized all of their local NAACP chapters nationwide to picket in front of  local Fox affiliates and all you got for it was a 2 piece and a biscuit.... or is that all they got? Other than the $10, 000 that News Corp gave the NYABJ, did News Corp give any money or promise to give any money to the NAACP, NAN, 100 Black Men or the Urban League? Nothing wrong with them doing so, I'm just curious:)

PPS, why would you even send out a press release about getting to hold a meeting twice a year?

The lack of diversity IN the newsroom and among editors is the root of the problem. Not so, sez the Rev Als. Borrowing from the Jesse, Sr. model, we should have them cough up goodies and let us feel im-poh-tant, rather than a real structural fix.

I swear we are our own worst enemies.

Well civil rights activists are always talking about a "seat at the table". I guess they mean lunch table. Do they even attempt to broker deals to get something other than a photo op and some chicken? How about getting some money to some black college journalism programs? All they got was a 10,000 sponsorship for one of their events in which they will eat more chicken.

For all the racist crap the NY Post has done all over the years and all they are trying to make up for is that Obama cartoon. Obama don't even pay attention to those civil rights folks that are supposedly fighting on his behalf. As usual these "activists" use a high profile racial event in which no actual solution came about to fill their pockets. When are they gonna earn the art of the deal? Latinos sure know how to do it.

learn the art of the deal, I meant

Joseph Liberatore—caught cheating on a report and final project. Claims tutor helped him with assignment.

Here's the deal...its known as a “corporate shake down". And it works like this...

1st , Company X participates in some sort of racially offensive and or discriminatory behavior.

2nd, the right Rev. Al and his compatriots, scare the be-jesus out of Company X by conducting boycotts and protests promising to reign down the wrath of black consumers the world over...

3rd, Company X wants to know what it can do to stop or preempt the promised onslaught.

4th, the right Rev and his cronies ask for a "diversity counsel”.

5th, The counsel recommends that Company X invest in diversity usually by contributing donations to his National Action Network or investing in a business owned and operated by one of Rev.’s “cronies”, who are exclusively male (Tom Joyner really made out on the Don Imus deal).

And 6th, the rest of us are left to wonder why nothing ever seems to change because there are never any substantive solutions or donations made to organizations interested in addressing structural racial disparities.

7th, Our communities are seen as a one large joke.

I think the idea that Rev Co scares these companies is questionable. Annoys perhaps, but scares? And that's all they got $10K? That's not even Murdoch's laundry bill for a year.

They're not out for empowerment or equality but lining their own individual pockets. Why do I feel as if Black people as a whole are going down the river and over a falls?

The shuck and drive counsel. Goodness, these civil rights negros are something else. They do absolutely nothing for black folks.

Rupert Murdoch is one of the most bigoted powerful racists on earth. Fox news is a disgrace to American society. Murdoch continues to destroy democracy. His systematic dissimenation of the worse stereotypes of black folks through his media empire is holocaust in itself. His empire's power continues to fuel the flame of white racists inbreds. But is dumb azz fails to understand that those white racist fools HATE jews. I'm so glad he's old, can't wait till he croaks!

PS The Holocaust musuem's white racist looney is a prime example of the conservative, white ring crazies that Murdoch's empire seems to coddle and give voice too. Old racist fool - Murdoch and the Shooter, have MUCH in common!

How pathetic! Seriously...
This behaviour makes it difficult for diversity and multiculturalism to be taken seriously. These people are doing more harm than good to the masses, and hitting them where it hurts the most--their pocket books.

Man on man...

Yup, it's kabuki and a smoke screen. When they are in really deep shit, they call for "a blue ribbon panel" . A " diversity counsel” is the same thing : PR bull shit to make it seem something is happing and get folks off a hook.....

LOL

Damn that was brutal. But true.

You can listen to an interview from last year where Prince talks about the heart of the problem. (in this interview the discussion centers around the satirical New Yorker cover from last year).

I'm glad that black journalists are twitchy about this. I know they need more support than what they are getting - they need to get the message out. Black America is consumer cash-cow and alot of people have latched onto that making us into consumers of an identy they have niche marketed for us. TALKING TO you Time Warner and VIACOM - just in case you thought I was mincing any words. I'm with the black journalists and maybe a minion..erhm I mean "representative" of one of the Murdoch diversity panel can explain how they plan to develop, implement and enact journalistic change with a true reflection of American society. I'm just curious.
