Kudos to CNN For Covering Serial Killer: The Grim Sleeper

My critiques of CNN are legend, but I did want to pause today to thank them for their front page coverage of The Grim Sleeper. This serial killer is targeting African American women. He's killed 11 women over the past 20 years. We've covered this case before on this blog. LA Weekly also did an thorough multimedia presentation about this case.

Hat Tip to Roslyn for pointing out CNN's coverage:
In the past couple of days they’ve stepped up their game. Today they’ve got a special profile on The Grim Sleeper, a serial killer in LA who targets black women/girls. I hope that by shining some light on the subject they might fire up some leads. I heard about this on NPR too, so a head-nod in their direction as well.

I’m also impressed by the LAPD’s admission that they made some mistakes with the case back when the series started back in the midst of the 1980s gang wars. I’m prepared to cut them some slack, because back then the murders were coming so fast and furiously it was almost impossible to keep up with the pace. Roslyn Holcomb

CNN has lots of multimedia giving the history of the case and the locations of the murders with biographical information.

I don't know what is in the water over there this week, but CNN.com has featured the frequently overlooked deaths of African American women at least three times this week, starting with Chaquita Tate over the weekend. THAT'S a record. So to whatever person in the CNN organization is scratching fighting and clawing for coverage of Black women and girls. Please keep it up.

On another note, after they gave the evil troll the boot, they replaced him with Roland Martin.Right now Roland is filling in for Campbell Brown, but at the end of his run, he'll get a weekend show. Hopefully he won't have any pimps calling Black women b*tches on his show, but you never know.

Mrs. Roland Martin is a minister, and I'm sure she won't tolerate foolishness from her husband. (Hoping its not a Bynum relationship).

I first heard about this story last year on America's Most Wanted. I'm glad it's getting more attention. And I hope they can finally catch the bastard!
