Now That Kwame is Headed to the Pokie, What About Christine Beatty

My curiosity has grown over the past few months as to why Christine Beatty didn't just cut a deal and agree to testify against Kwame Kilpatrick in the now infamous textual healing scandal in our favorite teeming metropolis, Detroit.
He also shook hands with Christine Beatty, his former chief of staff and ex-lover. Beatty’s lawyers got Groner to delay her separate criminal case for a week while she tries to hammer out her own plea deal.SOURCE

Now his life is moving on and she is still mired in the aftermath and I can't imagine Kym Worthy offering Christine a deal that does not involve J-A-I-L. Wow! Just WOW. OOOOOR is Christine holding out because there is an even larger cloud on the horizon??? With all of this corruption and intrigue, the feds can't be far behind. Now that Kwame has been removed from power will canaries start singing?

BTW, I believe that with Kwame resigning and Shrek taking his place that our very favoritest Detroit politician in the whole wide world, Monica Conyers, will not be the President of the Detroit City Council. Fun times lie ahead. I want to remind you that we ere the first blog to suggest Monica Conyers for Mayor of Detroit. She should be filing papers any day.

You can check out a deposition with Christine Beatty invoking her 5th Amendment right against self incrimination. Ladies let this be a lesson. Don't sleep with another woman's husband and then lie about it under oath, especially when you have detailed every illicit detail in writing. The past seven months have been rough on Christine Beatty. She went from the flowing sleek bob to the serviceable slicked back ponytail. I believe that this will end our coverage of this matter.

Christine asked for it. She should have cared about how her actions would impact his wife and especially his children. Selfishness got her and Kwame in this mess. Let them fully reap their actions. Maybe this will knock some sense into them.

If the feds take a look at this I doubt this will be the last blog post about this.

She looks haggard with 10 years added to her age. Is there a slim chance she could be holding on to (a snowball's chance in...) hope that she could get off on any serious charges which would prevent her from practicing law? Don't know whether she completed law school, or was dismissed, since I have not been following up on her.

2Unruly,

Nah once Kwame got is deal, here leverage disappeared...UNLESS there is a bigger threat hanging out there for her. Kym Worthy is NOT playing with the kiddies up in Detroit. Christine is going to J-A-I-L unless she gets acquitted. It would be JACKED UP if Kwame ended up testifying against Christine.

September 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

It is very hard to feel sorry for Christine Beatty. She was foolish, arrogant, and hypocritical. As far as I'm concerned, whatever problems she is having as a result of this mess, she brought onto herself.

The Feds are already here, expect more arrest of City Council members and other officials soon. And on other news, my peeps are telling me that Coleman A. Young, Jr. will put his hat into the ring.

God, she looks old as hell. Look at the bags under eyes. My God this woman has really aged. Poor thing. Yeah, I feel sorry for her.

Didn't Clinton lie under Oath. He didn't go to jail. Granted he got impeached.

Gina...I agree with you she is going to take the fall! She was stupid enough to try to have some allegiance to a corrupted pompous piece of shyt.

When will these ride or die chicks get a clue...cheatin' ass married/creepin' men don't give a damn about you! No he doesn't love you...No he doesn't respect you...No you are not number 1. He is basically using you as a toilet both figuratively and literally!

Damn...more womanly intelligence bites the dust!

I think it's so judgmental and presumptuous of you all to sit around and debate someone's emotions or intentions. cheating on a spouse or companion does not make you a bad person and for those of you that hurled insults, well you sound like women scorned and so caught up in someone else's drama to distract from your own or give you something to gossip about. Get a life people and judge not!

Response to KCW:

Thanks for reading my post and I dearly respect your opinion and your support for Rev. Meeks. I just want to clarify a few things. When I look at problems in our community I look at them through a historical perspective--”history is the subject that best rewards all research.” In other words, have we tried this before? What were some on of the successes and failures? For once in our lives let’s provide critical analysis and don’t believe the propaganda.

My closest connection to CPS is that I was a graduate student at U of I in Champaign and I saw first hand the competition between the best Black students from places like CPS and much smaller places like East St. Louis with other students from the state of Illinois. As a whole, we are no even close to competing. In Illinois, we are not in the race or at the stadium.

First, on the question of funding, sure get your equal funding if you can. However places around the country have tried that same approach (e.g., Burke v. Abbott in New Jersey and The Thorton Plan in Maryland) and it becomes a distraction (just a move the cheese game) to what is going on today in schools. Question for you KCW: at each individual high school on the southside of Chicago how much of the funding is dedicated towards curriculum and instruction. The funding in schools with relatively high Black populations is primarily focused on administration, security and remedial programs (SSI). Show us what CPS has done with the monies CPS has received before you engage the community.

Second on the issue of the boycott being well planned and well thought out, I support Rev. Meeks notion of a boycott and I urged people not to criticize him for using children. Other historic figures and national incidents have exploited children as well. But here is the thing, to integrate schools in the Jim Crow south students missed five years of school in Prince Edward County, VA with absolutely no get back. In Clarendon County, South Carolina, black students missed three years again with no get back. In Little Rock, Arkansas what they do not tell us about the Little Rock 9 crisis is that the following year Central High was shut down and only one (Ernest Green) of the Little Rock 9 actually for all practical purposes graduated from the school the rest were shuttled off to places like San Francisco, a nice liberal locale. But my point simply is when you do a boycott you have to be prepared to sit out a year if not more--not two damn days. How is a two day boycott effective? What Rev. Meeks wanted two days of media coverage? What Rev. Meeks wanted to meet the mayor, governor, school superintendent? Listen KCW most of our students think education is a waste of time and guess what so do white folks so bring on football, basketball, track, acting, singing etc. You know your educational substitutes. KCW over thirty years ago urban Black school were totally non-competitive and thirty years from now they will continue to be non-competitive because people with the requisite skills set and commitment are absent.

Please do not ever say “black and brown” again. Our causes get no traction because we include others--have we not learned anything. However, that is another 500 word comment so let me stop.

Whoa, whoa, whoa....

Yes, Christine Beatty lied about an affair and she has to pay for it but I feel bad for her. She had an office romance with a married man and is about to go to jail over lying about it. Give her community service instead.

Unless she has a prior criminal record, this humiliation is more than enough. If Nixon can be pardoned and still have recieve high praise for his foreign policy, Christine Beatty can be let off the hook too.

As far as I know, she lied about an office romance with a married man. If she did more than that, let me know.

September 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Upon further review, I now have a new respect for John Gotti. He went to court and taunted those prosecutors with his arrogant fashion and demeanor. Yes, they got him in the end but he fought them tooth and nail with his poise and confidence.

I don't like seeing people looking down and dejected in the way that Christine Beatty now appears. And why was it necessary to film this and release it for public viewing? That isn't right. And how come Kwame Kilpatrick didn't step up and tell Christine to drop dime on him to avoid this? He should have struck a deal at least to protect Beatty. How unmanly is that? I couldn't live with myself if I had an affair with a woman and she then went down over that. I lost even more respect for Kwame.

September 6, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Al,

Depositions are videotaped. This was ina deposition on a FIOA ase filed by a couple of the media outlets in Detroit.

Most people who are deposed are not happy about it. I can assure you.

I am torn abotu Christine mainly because she lost everything while Kwame held on to his family, Christine lost her husband and children. Lou, I think wisely, moved on with the kids. Christine lost her job seven months ago. Kwame kept his. Kwame has protesters on his behalf. Christine has none. Kwame has the means to repay his legal debts, Chrsitine has none.

Once again, the man and the woman engage in the same behavior except one pays a much heavier price than the other.

ON THE OTHER HAND. Christine should have sang like a canary and offered KWAME's head to Kym Worthy on a platter. I can assure you Kwame won't hesitate to do that to Christine.

It was clear from those text msgs that Christine was in love with Kwame and that love was not reciprocated.

Yes, it is UMANLY that he did not include Christine in his deal. Kwame is an arse.

September 6, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

@GEm

Do you think they would have allowed her to cut a deal? I don't know but Kym Worthy don't play. I get the feeling that her attornies probably wanted some kind of plea but the prosecution said no.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYeah

How is Kwame going to pay that 1million debt off. I know his pension is going to go towards it but he wasn't in office for long. So, that won't be much. Plus he lost his law license.

For some reason, I can see Kwame selling cars or selling shoes at Macy's.

My question is what is his wife going to do with those three kids. I wonder if she's going to stay with him.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYeah

Is not Kwame's momma, Rep. Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick, congresswoman for the 13th Congressional District of Michigan. Oh yea Kwa-may has a job. If Kwame forfeits his pension, I am sure that will go a long way to handle the restitution question. The four months (really 30 days) of jail time is a joke.

However, the main issue here is what does Kwame's assent say about the electorate in Detroit. Kwame with all his thug foibles was loved by the ecumenical community, the big business community and he was twice elected after a disastrous first term. Let's face it, Detroit with its pink and fuchsia gators, kwi-lime strawberry and cool lavender with a twist of vanilla suits, chrome out, leopard/zebra interior, customized with the Bentley nickel-plated grill Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, is a rest haven for petty dope peddlers, senior citizen hucksters and corrupt preachers. BA says, "play on, playa, play on, I can't claim it."

To: #13 GEM2001

So what is the moral of the story? Don't screw your boss in Rm. 301 with the bodyguards outside. No! The moral is screw your married boss, who may be off his sex game, cheat on your husband, fire your deputy chief of police and if need be although highly illegal totally not recommend fib under oath about everything. Just don't leave a text trial! Chris must go to jail.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBlackAchievement

"Depositions are videotaped. This was ina deposition on a FIOA ase filed by a couple of the media outlets in Detroit."

Wasn't there a way to release only the transcripts? Clearly the intent was to humiliate Christina. At the end of the day, what we have is a woman who tried to hide an affair that she was having with a married man. While the affair is wrong, I'm none too happy with the way in which she is being dragged through a humiliating torrent of media sexual curiosity that is being passed off as seeking justice against a wrongdoer.

I think her vilifiers fail to understand they are getting their news from the same sources that also report on a 17 year old woman being murdered by their parents for divorcing their husbands and an irresponsible mother murdering her young child. My point is that this is nothing but tabloid sensationalism that is crucifying a person for doing something that infinitely many other people are doing at this moment. Vilify Kwame but Christina should only get a slap on the wrist.

I hope she has the presence of mind to write a book about these experiences.

In a way, there is a small part of me that is pulling for her in the same way that I was pulling for John Gotti.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Here is a quirky coincidence: Christine and Kwame's wife are Deltas.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Yeah, I knew that, but could not reveal it because of who my source was. But I KNOW Christine is a Delta.

Leave it alone AL. Leave it alone. We don't want no trouble 'round heya!

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

I actually share Al's sentiment. I don't want Christine to go to jail. Black women are always stoned too death. I do want her to learn from this experience and STOP messing with married men.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYeah

Al,

Isn't Kwa-may a "Q." If, so, that is not a quirk at all, but run of the mill, predictable man sharing sort of like time sharing.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBlackAchievement

Well now that we have all of the National Pan. business out of the way, can we get back to talking about poor Christine Beatty and the tragic set of circumstances she now finds herself in and that shiftless man she gave up her life for that didn't even try to protect her with his deal?

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

Okay, here is Christine's plan of action:

1. Begin to present herself as someone who had fallen in love with Kwame Kilpatrick.

2. Show some sort of contrition for here misconduct.

3. Prepare memiors, get an agent, and a ghost writer.

4. Make sure her book has a character arc: The key events can include becoming Chief of Staff (the highs), Being attracted and romantically involved with Kwame (the highs), getting caught and paying for it(the lows),and her becoming a stronger and insightful person.

5. The book should include as many salacious and somewhat lurid details without crossing the line of taste yet remaining interesting. She should mention something about meeting his wife and some feelings of guilt.

6. Hit the circuit: Oprah, Essence, Michael Baisden, Cosmopolitan, etc.,

7. Sell the story and prepare to see it on Sunday night on "Lifetime".

This book has HUGE potential but Christine has to recover her senses and get her head back into the game. She can certainly take this lemon and make some lemon..... drop martinis.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

WOW Al, You have really thought this through haven't you. You nee to send a copy to Christine. BWHAHA she needs a lifeline because I suspect all the advisors around her are loyal to Kwame.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

UPDATE: Here is what they are sayign at the Detroit News

""She's terrified," said her pastor, Rev. Ronald L. Griffin, who accompanied her to court. "She's terrified of all the consequences. Her life will never be the same. She lost her job. She dropped out of school. She cannot pay her legal bills. She lives with the shame, the humiliation."

Her lawyer, Mayer Morganroth, said Beatty has been in plea discussions with prosecutors this week, but Prosecutor Kym Worthy's "offer was a little onerous." He did not give specifics about those discussions. Morganroth also said that his legal bills were not being paid, though friends of the mayor had set up a legal defense fund in her name....Both Morganroth and Griffin said Beatty is not doing emotionally well, that she is barely making ends meet, and that she is struggling to pay bills and clothe her children.

Beatty, once the most powerful woman in the rough and tumble politics of Detroit, has had no job offers since she resigned in January. "

Who in the world has Beatty surrounded herself with? Why are these morons leaking this information about her? I hope that when my moment of dread and despair visits, I will have surrounded myself with people who make it a point for me to always project strength and an undying will.

I would have never allowed Beatty to leave the house in that that pulled back hair and casual look. She should have presented herself with the same amount of pride, dignity, poise, and confidence that John Gotti had when he strolled into court.

Her circle needs to be fired and replaced with a new life coach. I nominate Winston Churchill!!!

HAHAHA! Oh AL, Ain't that the truth.

Actually, I think she is all alone which makes me feel sorry for her. Was she arrogant? Yes. Did she lie? yes. Should she pay a terrible price? Absolutely.

But I worry about her being absolutely abandoned. When Black men screw up, they have an entire community run to their aid, but Black women... Nada.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

Christine Beatty does look pretty depressed. You can "almost" feel sorry for her. Hmm, well you can "empathize" with her.

I doubt most married women will shed many tears.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYme

If only she would come out and TRY to throw Kwame under the bus. I think she is still in shock.

I am a softy, I hate to see people dejected. Delusional narcissism like Kwame's you can be ticked at, but utter dejection. There is no joy in kicking another person when they are down.

September 7, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

Well, I don't need her preacher to tell me she's an emotional wreck. Look at her - she's done. I hope she doesn't kill herself. God, will pull her through this and she'll be in a better place a year from now. Right now, she's just going through a rough patch.

I just don't understand the black communities willingness to stone black women and give a pass at black men who commit far worse offenses. You know you've got black folks holding prayer vigils over OJ. I live in DC and Marion Barry sits on city council. That should tell you something.

September 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYeah

No, we certainly shouldn't kick her while she's down. Help her up...dust her off...and the rest is probably up to Mrs. Kilpatrick or Mr. Beatty if they weren't up to the same thing.

The Internet is full of their encounters. That's depressing. If they had have kids, it's even more horrible.

I was embarrassed if my mother came looking for me, wearing a certain outfit.

"Tell me you didn't do it, Mom. Who saw you out wearing that?"

My father bless his soul, could just come out on the front porch (short pants and dress shoes) and my cool points were gone for a week.

These people (if they're parents, yet)??? They were the ones needing chaperons.

Now, I'll have to check you people later. I have to drop my kids off at school.

(Should I take these hair rollers out?)

PS. I really do hope they can both recover from this incident.

September 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYme

To those who say that Christine "only" loved a married man and we shouldn't 'stone' her for that - let me give you a little more information about why Miss Christine is suffering so. It's not just about her affair. Don't forget that she was part responsible for the firing of at least 3 police officers (and more, as they continue to come forward) for investigating the ex-mayor and her affair. Not only did she have them fired, she slandered them in the press, blackballed them and humiliated them for doing the job they were hired to do. She publicly lambasted them and said they were liars and frauds.

Two other police officers stopped her for speeding, and she humiliated and embarrassed them in her attempts to fight the charges, claimed they were lying and only trying to harass her.

She participated in kickbacks and corruption schemes which are currently being investigated by the Feds. Including giving bid information to the mayor's buddy in exchange for this same contractor doing work around HER home for free.

For the past 6-8 years, Christine has been a holy terror in the streets of Detroit. The affair was just a very small part of what she has done. Sure, it became publicly known because they were trying to cover up the affair, but don't be fooled, Christine has a LOT of things to answer for. When she finally gets this case resolved, she knows all of her other dirt is being reviewed by the Feds, along with Kwame's, and she knows its not over.

We have no sympathy for this woman, she is like the Imelda Marcos of Detroit, minus the shoes, lol.

It is a shame that Kwame just dumped on her and walked away, but Kwame's trials are not over either. I guarantee they will BOTH be getting some serious jail time when the Fed charges come down. Not only is she the mistress scorned, she has been in partner in both crime and in bed, but that's the way it is. The man walks away with a smile and pat on the back, and the woman is left in the gutter. Most women know that going in, its too bad she didn't.

In Kwame's "goodbye for now" speech, he pulled his wife on the stage and declared their love for each other, saying that people had tried to tear it apart and that they were closer than ever. If that wasn't a final spit in the face to Christine, I don't know what is.

September 8, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterbutterbabee

Oh, let me add something else - them having an affair would not have came down to this, had they not fired those 3 police officers and ruined their careers. People have affairs all the time, women sleep with their bosses all the time, and vice versa. BUT, these two, Kwame and Christine, felt threatened that the cops had discovered their affair and would reveal it to others (the other city employees who knew about the affair were too afraid to say anything and Kwame made sure they were too intimidated to talk). So not only did they fire them, they summarily kicked them out and slandered them and made sure their careers were destroyed so they couldn't work anywhere but McDonalds.

When threatened with the original lawsuit, they laughed in the cops' faces and Christine said, "we ain't scared, it will be a one day story!" Then during the trial, they continually gave interviews claiming the cops were lying and only trying to extort money from the city. They tried every trick they could to destroy these cops, revealing their medical records, trying to dig up dirt on them, etc. When all they had to do was just admit the affair, apologize, and move on. They had no mercy for these hard working city employees.

I even remember Kwame giving an interview stating that he hoped one of the cop's kids could see their dad on tv lying, and know what a liar he was. It was despicable, especially in light of the fact that it was Kwame and Christine who were lying.

So no, it wasn't the affair that caused all of this, it was their behavior in covering up the affair and destroying everyone around them in doing so.

September 8, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterbutterbabee

Wow! Thanks, Butterbabee. The folks sobbing over 'poor Christine' needed to be reminded that she was no helpless innocent drawn into Kwame's mess, but an equal partner. She earned every bit of the trouble coming her way.

September 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterZann

buttabee, if all you say is true, then she's gotta go down. The perception is that she was clipped for lying about the text messages and based only on that, the humiliation seems excessive.

September 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Yes, thank you buttabee for refreshing our memories. In all the confusion about textual healing, we forget that these two plotted and successfully destroyed the careers and lives of three law enforcement officers in order to cover up their tryst.

And then cost the citizens of detroit 8.4 million dollars. So these weren't just private sins, these were public crimes.

She still looks terrible, but I am sure that the officers looked much worse when Kwame and Christine did this to them.

September 8, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

As butterbabee points out Beatty was in a whole lot of dirty deals up to her eyeballs. She was given a $12,000 grant by Fifth Third Bank to purchase her home because the bank knew the mayor would look favorably on this. Fifth Third was seeking city business for tax collection at the time and viewed this $12,000 as an investment.

Both Beatty and Kilpatrick were stupid enough to lie under oath when the nature of the questions being asked made it obvious that there was proof they were lying.

Once this all came out neither Beatty nor Kilpatrick behaved rationally. Beatty should have made a beeline to the prosecutor to make a deal. However her lawyer was assigned to her by Kilpatrick and Kilpatrick's buddies set up her defense fund.

It will be interesting to see what, if any, deal Kym Worthy gives to Beatty.

September 8, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterShady_Grady

This is the first I've heard of this. I've been very busy and don't catch the news much.

I can't wait to see how this one plays out.
I bet all of Beatty's staff sing like canarys.
And what about the one that did work around the home, that sounds like some serious stuff, sucks to be him.

I did hear about Beatty lying when it was going on and I wondered why nobody was coming forward. Now it seems that the strong arm tactics were to blame.

I see...
