Sarah Palin Acceptance Speech Open Thread:Because I Know Y'all Will Have Plenty To Say About It

Well folks, the number one topic of conversation on this blog for the past week, as evidenced by the 300+ comments that have been left, will be giving her acceptance speech tonight at 9:00CST. They mailed out the entire thing, but it is embargoed until delivery. Here are some excerpts:
On her experience as a public servant:

"I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids’ public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn’t need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities."

On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:

"I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement:

"Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems - as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines...build more nuclear plants...create jobs with clean coal...and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."

On John McCain:

"Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

Do try to contain yourselves and not comment until you actually hear the speech. After being at the DNC last week, they often depart significantly from the prepared remarks. Please limit your comments to a critique of the speech as written or delivered and reserve all additional rumors regarding Palin or any of her family members being abducted by space aliens for our earlier posts.

xoxo,
What About Our Daughters Customer Service Department

UPDATE: The Obama Campaign has responded to Palin's speech per Politico:
The speech that Gov. Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush’s speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we’ve heard from George Bush for the last eight years. If Gov. Palin and John McCain want to define ‘change’ as voting with George Bush 90 percent of the time, that’s their choice, but we don’t think the American people are ready to take a 10 percent chance on change.

I'm definitely watching. Any woman that can take down a moose, owns guns, and is an athlete is alright with me.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Al you gon' commit heresy up in here and be excommunicated from the Black Folks Island.

Mitt Romney clearly thought McCain is going to lose so he pulled a Regan and gave a stump speech for 2012

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

Oh Gem, you didn't know? I am a Farrakhan supporting, Pastor Wright admiring, shotgun beneath my bed having, National Retail Sales Tax supporting, Huckabee enjoying, likely McCain voter. My only reason to support Obama is so that he would appoint Pro Choice judges to the Supreme Court. I'm willing to take a chance and hope that the Democratic controlled Congress will successfully defend against Pro Life Judges.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Here comes Rudy....

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

This speech sucks. Rudy is at his best when he is explaining something not when he is a cheerleader. I was kinda hoping for Rudy the Mafia buster/crime fighter. What a jip.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

@AL
"I’m definitely watching. Any woman that can take down a moose, owns guns, and is an athlete is alright with me."

LOL. Watch out bullwinkle.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYme

Tom Cruise can come down from Zenu after he's ascended to take Sarah Palin with him.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFaith

Okay, its showtime. Let's see if Palin can deliver the goods.

Babies, Guns, and Jesus... hot damn!

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Gina, you are so right about Romney.

He was relentless. He knows that if McCain loses they are going to want a strict conservative in '12.

I wonder how he feels about the Rep. party saying that Palin (according to their measure of experience) is just as qualified as he is.

I guess running the Olympics and turning companies around means nada.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKinky Twists

IF the republican narrative on Palin is 70% true, then Palin is the Republican Obama. She should have been at the top of the ticket, because she certainly represents the future of the republican party a heck of a lot better than McCain does.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

Thats exactly what Mitt did, you know he's getting his hand slapped

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTracy

She totally lost me @ the community organizer remark. Well, her crazy-ass anti-choice politics never had me, truth be told.

She's no Michelle Obama.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterdr. fantastic

I know this may be sacrilege up in here, but she KILLED tonight! That was 10 times better than anything McCain will ever produce. I bet McCain becomes her warm-up act on the stump. Not that I agree with a word that came out of her mouth. But, I can acknowledge political brilliance when I see it.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterteddy

Okay, I will not share my thoughts on the speech. It might be best if you checked it out on your own.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

Whom ever wrote Palins speech has pulled all the rabbits out of the hat.........They had a woman grab Barak's balls..........she is sooooooooo delivering this SICKENING SPEACH. I am soooooooooo waiting for the MSNBC commentary.............

I am an Obama supporter. They had better bring out all the Mccains flip flops, and constant no votes on energy and womens rights quick....ly

The democrats want to have a gentlemanly fight. But the republicans do not mind slapping you in your face and then asking you..........."what u gonna do about it bi**h."

I do not think even Mccain wants to give his speach tomorrow after this shitzzzzzzzzzzzzz........it could not get better.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterw. page

The Dems should be very afraid. The Obama camp better get off this high road and start fighting with all the ammo they've got.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterpinky

Great speech. Needless to say, I am very impressed with Gov. Palin. She's going to be a great vice President.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterQue4McCain

Snap. Crackle. POP! It's OOON NOW!

Of course she exceeded expectations. Folks lowered the bar to the ground. All you people running around saying Biden is going to wipe the floor with her. THINK AGAIN.

Stop talking about her kids and start talking about her policy!

What's the counter punch Dems?

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

Ok I've heard enough. This wasn't even remotely inspiring. She wants to talk about taxes being raised when they've wasted billions on a fake war in Iraq. Nice to skip over the gas prices, the housing crisis, the higher cost of food and you know the stuff that affects us every day. She is flat out lying about this POW crap when McCain has voted against funding veterans healthcare and the GI Bill. "If character is the measure" join her cause. McCain - who cheated and lied? Hey I just saw a Black person! I'm going to suffer through Fake News commentary to get the alternate universe spin on this speech. She's attractive and articulate. If people want to ignore all the lies she told about what they'd do in Washington - she cut funding to homeless teens who are pregnant. It's scary if enough people take her at her word she sounds reasonable. It's just that it's a lie. God help us all but for the people who don't think critically or do research or vote against their interests.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFaith

Let's get ready to RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Listening to her speach she has more executive experience the MCCAIN..........

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterw. page

Sarah Palin intends to play the attack dog role. She certainly carried forward the McCain strategy of mockery, ridicule, sarcasm and disrespect. McCain's campaign spokesperson Rick Davis said yesterday that this campaign isn't going to be about issues. They intend this to be about personality, not the issues. The primary thrust of all attacks on Obama are to impugn his character. She delivered the red meat for the audience in the hall on that score. No policy however.

It remains to be seen if she can move the electorate beyond the social conservative right.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

I think the issue is she didn't discuss tough policy so much as she knocked the Dems the ***k out. Period. She's got those white women wrapped around her finger. "She's an American woman." The End.

At least that's what I got..lol.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterpinky

She brought it. Hands down. She's able to connect. She's been able to do for Republicans what McCain has been unable to do. Talk about a "hail, mary".

1) She reached out to special needs parents, for goodness sake. "You'll have an advocate in the White House." Talk about reaching out to special interest groups.

Obama needs to bring the "A" game.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYme

I just wasn't impressed. But I'm not her target audience. The speech came off very sarcastic.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJ.Adia

But that's just it, Gina, she left a GAPING policy whole.

I admit that her hits on Obama were on point but where was the talk about what they were going to DO, what is she going to DO. I knoooooooooow she was a "hockey mawm" and a mayor and is governor. But what is she and McCain going to do for ME.

+No mention of the housing crisis
+No mention of stagnant wages
+No mention of the porous border (which is a national security issue)
+No mention of failing schools (white schools are failing too)

And her slight at community organizing futher demonstrates that this election is about white women vs. blacks.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKinky Twists

Strong strong speech. If she were at the top of the ticket, I'd be tempted (ducks his Black friends).

Interesting how both parties have stressed "change"

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNehesi

@pinky

This is going to be a brawl between now and November.
They have to respond to this.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

If there is no response or a weak response, they (the Dems) are dead in the water.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterpinky

Babies, Guns, and Jesus.... Hot Damn!!!!

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAl From Bay Shore

O'Biden HAS to hit her on those lies in her speech (she was for the bridge b4 she found out her state would have to pay for it), her connections to Abramoff, the fact that she raised Wasilla's debt to $20 million...

Her economic strides in Alaska come SOLELY from oil and gas production. She has little competing interests and hardly any minority issues. She IS still not experienced enough.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKinky Twists

To all the people complaining about policy, this campaign is NOT going to be etermined by policy. McCain tore up that script when he nominated Palin. This is going to be one of those"who do you want to have a beer with" elections.

Barring a natural disaster or Heaven forbid some other national emergency, this is going to be a popularity contest. It could have been about a referrendum on George Bush. It could have been about the Iraq war, but instead the nation paused tonight to see if the lady with five kids and a grand baby on the way could complete a full sentence.

We have now turned this election into a referendum on the news media and teenage pregnancy and God knows whatever frivolity we chose to distract ourselves with.

I think about the only dem that can come out swinging right back is Hillary. Her phone is ringing right about now.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

The dems have to respond hard, but they have to be smart. They need to learn how to deliver the hard hits with plausible defendability. The GOP makes the hit and they don't apologize or back down.

My VP debate prediction is already up and I predict he will get his teeth kicked in. He only avoids losing that debate if he comes in thoroughly prepped to rip her apart on policy.

The Dems also have two devastating smart weapons in their arsenal in Bill and Hillary. But party unity only goes so far. Bill and Hill did what was required of them at the convention. They are not giving the O team anything else, which is too bad. A full frontal assault by Bill and Hill, Obama and Biden I think would be more incoming firepower than the McCain/Palin ticket can take, but I'm betting they are going to be keeping their tender dry.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAaron

"This is going to be one of those”who do you want to have a beer with” elections."

That's how they nailed us with Bush. People couldn't see themselves interacting casually with Kerry or Gore.

I don't think they've been able to really stick that elitist handle on Obama. His small town comments are going to nail his hide to the wall though, if he doesn't cut it out.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYme

"I think about the only dem that can come out swinging right back is Hillary. Her phone is ringing right about now."

Hillary could take this chick out, IMO, but Obama....not so much; and yes, this election is NOT going to be about policy...but popularity.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterpinky

My two cents…and I trying to make this quick cause it’s late and school started this week. Alright the first thing I noticed was the lack of diversity and if this is any representation of what the McCain/Plain ticket plans of bringing to Washington then I scared.

I thought that Sarah as well as the Mayor of New York took great jabs at Democrats, but of course this was the party convention. But, to fair she did a good job. It just seems like they don’t mind throwing punches. They are framing the election to appeal strictly to those working class folks and that’s what she delivered on…Hey I’m one of you. Did she skirt the issues..yes because the real aliments that are hurting Americans weren’t even discussed. But, in politics to the average citizen it comes down to appeal and who can connect.

I thought it was interesting how they are taken the experience argument, flip-flopped it and said up yours! And during some parts of the speech I felt like Mammy in Gone with the Wind when she s said “ Yes'm you is, you's gonna eat every mouthful of this.”

Obama Camp….these folks are playing to WIN…and now they released the sealed records between the O and William Ayers, the political Honor America PAC (which is working to expose Barack Obama’s affiliation with Black Liberation Theology), and the Council for National Policy and the PBS (Palin Baby Scandal) as predicated is starting to play in Sarah’s favor. This is starting to feel like the perfect storm.

The democrats do have room to come back, but it better be strong and as I stated earlier we better form some PACs of our own to do some of the dirty work. Time to sling some mud!!!

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthelildiva4u

Aaron said The dems have to respond hard, but they have to be smart. They need to learn how to deliver the hard hits with plausible defendability. The GOP makes the hit and they don’t apologize or back down."

I tried to tell y'all this was a T-R-A-P last friday, but people called me stupid . People quit the blog. People sent me angry emails. I was telling y'all for your own good. Why assume that she was incompetent??? Why lower expectations. Why move the campaign from talking about a third Bush term to talking abotu teen pregnancy.

The republicans LET the Democrats make this about personality and the "culture wars." I think this is called the "Rope a Dope"

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

Gina said "I think about the only dem that can come out swinging right back is Hillary. Her phone is ringing right about now" hahah Hillary said...I ain't picking up the phone for no less then 20 million

BTW Gina are you going to have a podcast this week? Pleassss!

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthelildiva4u

She saved this campaign, I know that much.

And I agree that Bill and Hillary are the only hope he has to win this election. He needs to do some sort of meal culpa on the race stuff or something. Prop Bill up again as the last saving grace for the black community and the one to calm the waters.

Maybe then Bill will be willing to get out there tough for him.

IDK - neither Bill nor Hillary have an interest in him winning so I can see them letting that call go to voicemail.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKinky Twists

She definitely brought the heat - but it won't convert independents or even bring Hillary's folks into the GOP tent IMHO. Her presence will further energize BOTH bases, which won't help McCain end the end. He's still trailing, and if the result in November is going to be dictated by who's voters are more "inspired" to run to the polls, then I still think this is Obama's race.

That said, this is certainly no time for BHO's campaign to play the rope a dope. If he stays as feisty as he was in that acceptance speech in Denver, then that'll be just about right.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterjcfii

Aaron, on the Clintons, i hope u r wrong, from the get go i wanted Barack to hook his wagon to the Clintons and not the Kennedys so he could hone he skills and be in power for 16 yrs.

had to let that dream go... ...but i was happy to see them kiss and make up so he could have the benefit of folks who have "been there done that and kicked a**" with the right's attack machine.

Biden and Barack, well, may win on policy points, but they will need some help from the Clintons on style.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPersistance

jcfii said " If he stays as feisty as he was in that acceptance speech in Denver, then that’ll be just about right" We need more than feisty, we need money, bodies, mud and some more stuff. Please re-read my post on the other thread about who these people are and who really vetted Sarah.

Don't believe the hype about McCain's folks being involved with this pick. There are MUCH BIGGER FORCES at work here.

I started the collection plate to collect 20 million...so far I put in $20...

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthelildiva4u

This is my suggestion. tomorrow O'Biden had better roll to Chappaqua with abotu two dozen cheese burgers and lure Bill out on the back 40 ans sit and chew the breeze. Pick his brain do whatever because Obama has already shown little stomach for brawling publicly. Bill and Hillary don't have a problem with a good old fashion street brawl.

Biden... sorry folks, he is a loose cannon. You never knwo what is going to fly out of his mouth.

The Dems are going to be Out Bubba-ed. Might as well go talk to the folks that wrote the play book for tonight.

But like I said. I don't know that Hillary will pick up the phone for less than 20 Mil.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

My father has an interesting take on Hillary C. He thinks that Palin will be able to do to Hillary, what Obama was either unwilling or unable to do. Give her a reason to help him win. He thinks Hillary was DETERMINED to be the first female president, and if McCain/Palin wins...well, you get the idea. It positions Palin for that historical place.

Of course, if Obama wins...and he gets eight years, she'll be, 1,2, 3... getting a little older herself. So, I'm not sure his theory works.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYme

Then Obama supporters need to pony up and help him raise money to bring Hillz back in.

And I agree, Gina, Barack needs to really learn from Bill. It's a shame that primary campaign got so ugly because under their instruction Obama could have been leading by 10+ right now.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKinky Twists

That's it, exactly. They're going to be out bubba'd by a gun toten, moose shooting, female. Is that the winning strategy. Have we had 20 years of bubbas? Including Clinton.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYme

thelildiva4u said "I started the collection plate to collect 20 million…so far I put in $20…"

Only 19 Million nine hundred ninety nine thousand ninety ninetynine hundred and eighty dollars to get Hillary to answer your call.

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

Is there anyway we can change our VP pick?

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterthelildiva4u

Here, puma, puma...

September 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterYme

"Is there anyway we can change our VP pick?"

Now don't stop believing after one speech. You CAn change your VP pick, but it will look really bad. Let this marinate and percolate. You got two months til the election.
