For those of you depressed by Soledad O'Brien's Black Women and Family forever known in these parts as "Black Women It Doesn't Suck to be You it only FEELS that way," I have some news to break the negative deluge, apparently Black women are far more likely to be early adapters of technology than our counterparts.
I know you like your cellphones, but before you pay sprint or T Mobile, make sure you pay yourself first because according to Soledad O'Brien, you are going to need that money in your old age because we're all going to die old and alone and be eaten alive by nine cats. RUN FOR YOUR LIVES SISTAS!!! Like the hounds of hell are upon you.
On a side note, I guess its a good thing the people at Blogging While Brown wrestled me to the ground and refused to let me go until I agreed to allow advertising on this blog.
Black women are more likely than other women to spend time embracing technology, and they view cell phones and the Internet as tools of empowerment and self-expression, a study finds.
Compared with other women, five times as many black women — 36 percent — use cell phones for three or more hours a day, according to research released by Time Inc.'s Essence magazine. Black women also spend more extended time using iPods, computers, high-definition TVs and DVD players. Ohio.com

LOL, thanks and oh so true. While I do believe there are problems. I think that black women can be too pessimistic. Life and even perceptions of us are a lot better than we think. Btw, I love new technology. I can't stay away from my blackberry.
I have a four year old Wndows desktop, a MacBook pro (15") and an AT&T Tilt (pocket PC) that was a birthday/Christmas gift from my parents last year. I never thought I would use a lot of the features on here but I absolutely love it. I started texting for the first time when I got it. I'm nowhere in speed to typing them like the younger set but I will get there eventually. It's a lot easier with a real keyboard.
I absolutely love technology. I tell people that when I am 90, not only will I have the latest gadget out there but I will also be able to see the print and operate the thing:)

Dido to that..
I love technology myself also..
I had to accept the fact that love of technology may be tied to consumerism but it is not exclusive to it. As soon as I get a spare $500 I'll get an unlocked iPhone to stay with T-Mobile. I can't finance any company that violated FISA. I'll be interested to see who you let advertise here because I am sure they are chomping at the bit to do so. If entertainment blogs have advertising while making fun of people why not have some while helping improve lives?
Gina, I didn't get a chance to meet you while you were running around. I came with Jonnice to see Necole and say hello to a few friends. I too am a PR Consultant that works with bloggers. I like your comment that the bloggers wrestled you down on the advertising topic. It's all good, you can still do you! Will meet up again soon! ~ dee dee M. cocheta
