Genarlow Wilson Plays "Victim" on the Tyra Show--Beating death in Cleveland

The Blogmother
WAOD Reader, Faith reports that Tyra Banks, the defender of fierce Black women all over the planet had Genarlow Wilson on the show about sexual predators trying to portray him as some kind of victim. Lets be clear... there is "not guilty" and "innocent." One is a legal term, the other is a moral term. Genarlow Wilson might be free, but he ain't innocent. I won't restate my position against rewarding bad behavior. You can read my previous posts

I wonder how long it will take for Genarlow and his Mama to make it to the Oprah Show. Note that Tyra, like all Genarlow Wilson apologists fails to mention what Mr. Wilson and his buddies did to the 17 year old girl in the room. Let me remind you:
Any day now I am waiting for Tyra's show on Dunbar Village, Ebony Dorsey, Romona Moore, Daniyah Jackson, Latasha Norman, Nailah Franklin, Marcie Crane, Kireasha Pam Linkhome, Shirley Geanes, Latoya Natasha Thomas, Dymashal Lashon Cullins, Tyesha Patrice bell, Daphne Philisia Jones, Tamika Antoinette Huston, y'all let me know when she has some real victims on the show. Feel free to let Tyra know how you feel... Faith already made her thoughts made known on the Tyra Show blog. WAOD readers are FIERCE!
Black Women Behold Your Future
Statistically speaking, Black women will live to about 76 years old and if you happen to get married, your husband will die before you do. In other words, you can expect to spend the last of your golden years alone. Well think about this quote the next time you are thinking about retirement.. Be careful where you decide to spend your sunset years, you could end up like 78 year old Irene Bennett:

I wonder how long it will take for Genarlow and his Mama to make it to the Oprah Show. Note that Tyra, like all Genarlow Wilson apologists fails to mention what Mr. Wilson and his buddies did to the 17 year old girl in the room. Let me remind you:
The videotape was "Exhibit A" because it depicts a horrific crime: a gang rape of a semi-conscious, 17-year-old girl, followed by a bizarre display of sexual precociousness by a 15-year-old girl. That's the truth recorded by Genarlow and his friends that fateful night. I suspect that is also why Ms. Bernstein hated it whenever McDade used it to rebut her version of Genarlow's crime....talk about inconvenient truth. Gina, when will you stop harping about Genarlow Wilson? When folks stop trying to portray him as a hero or a victim. If what he did to the 17 year old wasn't predatory, what is? Y'all feel free to copy and paste and pass it on to Ms. Fierce. If Wilson had any humility or decency, he would thank his lucky stars that he is not locked up in the clank and live his life in obscurity.
No matter how much (two glasses of Cognac) the 17-year-old may have had to drink, no matter how much she may have flirted with those boys, she did not consent to having sex with all of them, one right after the other. Yet it never occurred to the "smart" and "spiritual" Genarlow to say, "Stop it. We should not be doing this." No. Genarlow watched, waited and gladly took his turn. When they were through raping her, Genarlow helped his friends drag the comatose victim to the bathroom. They opened the door, pushed her in, watched as she fell to the floor and closed the door. I guess she wasn't much fun anymore. SOURCE

In retirement, she and her husband had hoped to enjoy simple pleasures: watching people pass by and planting flowers around their neatly kept home. But the violence in the neighborhood makes that impossible.Irene is talking about livingi n a neighborhood that is so violent that 15 teens beat a man to death in the middle of the street in Cleveland. They killed a man named Charles Gooden Jr... after one of them urinated on the man's head. I have already told y'all I am retiring to Canada or Alaska to live off the land."You pay for your home. You work hard. You retire, and you want to enjoy, just come out on your porch and ... wait for the summertime to come," she said, shaking her head. MSNBC

Tyra Banks' show has always gone from interesting to idiotic. I wish it didn't have to cross into harmful. The show has too many dedicated and sponge-minded viewers to be giving a voice to the kind of destructive ideology that Genarlow Wilson and his sympathizers has to offer.
Mari-Djata,
You ain't lying. I had to turn the channel when she had that "What type of freak are you?" episode last week. Just nonsense.
I too was a Genarlow Wilson sympathizer at one point. I thought the charges were extreme and I was too busy thinking with my race. Then I read some of the Genarlow articles on this site remembering that I'm a woman that could've been a misguided girl.
Tyra is dangerous with serious topics.
Tyra's show is still on? All I know from the Tyra Show is that The Soup on E! has basically established itself as a place where Tyra's stupidity will be highlighted.
Like anonymiss, I'm sorry to say I was at one time, a Genarlow supporter. After reading an article or two and judging the sentence by the purported crime, I thought this was a clear case of racial bias.
At least I can admit when I'm wrong. I saw the video of him snickering and grinning for the camera while having sex with someone who was so obviously unaware of what was happening...well, I was just sick.
I don't watch Tyra's show, but having heard some of the topics and seeing her lack of real investigation prior to inviting people like Genarlow on her show, you can bet I never will.
Exquisitely Black
Some people can try to justify and rationalize all types of behaviors and beliefs...it's too bad that in this case it's done at the expense of another Black female.
The understanding of Genarlow supporters is unbelievable...
G-man can kiss my testicles. I out Cynthia Tucker on my STFU list when she penned a piece comparing him to some of the great black men who graduated from Morehouse.
Chitlin' Eatin' Morehouse College was ALREADY on my STFU list.
I never bought into his hype or Marcus Dixon's. To me, they are both still filthy rapists and I hope they rot in hell...youthful indiscretions and all.
out = put
Tyra should be doing something more worthwhile than to give Mr. Wilson a forum on her show. Where are talk shows dedicating to the memories of Black women whose lives were lost to violence by those same men? How about doing a dedication show honoring the memories of Latoyia Figueroa, the victims of serial killer Henry L. Wallace(the Black man, not the vice president of Harry Truman), Sherrice Iverson, among many others.
I'm tired of shows honoring criminals preying upon Black women.
Steph.
p.s. Please check out the video dedicated to the victims of Henry Louis Wallace at:

That's entertainment... God forbid Tyra should upset her sponsors. No one considers her to be a serious journalist (or entertainer, for that matter) anyway.
I am most definitely not a fan of Tyra Banks. Naima is right about The Soup constantly highlighting her particular brand of, well, whatever-it-is. As for Wilson, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should, nor should you act as if you were justified in it. Wrong is wrong, plain and simple. From the actual crime itself to the way people have portrayed it afterwards, individual responsibility for one's actions has been pushed to the wayside.
Although I understand your frustration, I don't really expect quality journalism from Tyra Banks. I don't watch her shows, read her articles, or even remain on a channel to listen to her comments on television shows, current events, or the price of tea in China. It hasn't been deemed politically correct to chastise Genarlow for his reprehensible conduct. He's been given a pass by our media...so the press coverage will be favorable. I think that's why so many of us flock to the Internet. After awhile, we start wondering, "Is it just me, or is something wrong with this picture?"
Ms. McCauley your hatred for straight black men is clinical and you should receive help.
Morehouse is a private institution and has every right to enforse dress standards.
If those crossdressers are so committed to being women why don't they apply to Spellman?
Yeah, let's see the reception they get from the sisters.
And Genarlow Wilson was not a rapist. Is there every any instance where you will hold black females responsible for their own behavior and stop positing them always as victims?????
