Condi for VEEP?

Speaking of Black women in popular culture, in what will be an endless summer of speculation about who John McCain will select for his Vice Presidential running mate, over the weekend Dan Senor said that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. That has about a snow ball's chance in Honolulu of happening, but it was nice to imagine the possibility for a moment of a Hillary vs. Condi Vice Presidential debate. I just can't see Condoleezza kissing babies, shaking hands, ad answering questions in townhall meetings and everything she has ever said indicates that she finds the thought of campaigning unappealing. I think John McCain kind of nipped this one in the bud.

Sen. John McCain said Sunday he hasn't seen signals Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is interested in running as vice president.

"I missed those signals," McCain told reporters on his campaign plane. "I think she's a great American. I think there's very little that I can say that isn't anything but the utmost praise for a great American citizen, who served as a role model to so many millions of people in this country and around the world."

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack also denied Monday Rice was interested in the job.

"If she is actively seeking the vice presidency then she is the last one to know about it," he said. "She plans on going back West of the Mississippi to Stanford when she's completed her work as Secretary of State." CNN.com
Not to mention the fact that she isn't a social conservative. This is just a preemptive strike to say she was "considered" Clinton did the same thing with Barbara Jordan and the Attorney General position I want to say it was in 92.

There is an entire blog ( an unflattering one)dedicated to covering Secretary Rice 24/7 ( Not Safe For Work). Princess Sparkle Pony, America's Favorite Princess Diplomat. If you look at the comments section, I am pretty sure most of their readers are not Black women or women for that matter. I am convinced they will do the same thing to Michelle Obama, only worse. prepare yourselves.

You say what?

She has already said that she is not interested. Too bad for McCain though, because she would have been a slam dunk for the republican party.

Oh, am I being MEAN to poor Condi? So sorry.

I don't see this happening either. As you said, she's not a conservative. McCain needs a true conservative since he isn't one himself. Plus, conservatives dislike her mid-east agenda, and being tied to Bush ain't what it used to be. She's more of a liability to McCain.

I took a look at the blog. Never will I go back there again. Legitimate criticism of Dr. Rice should not be an excuse to descend into black woman bashing which is exactly what those snarky comments are overtly doing. This applies to all women in the public sphere.

I definitely agree with la belle femme. It's unfortunate that people personally attack Sec. Rice as opposed to legitimately critiquing her actions/policies. Attacks on her blackness/womanhood are attacks on my blackness/womanhood. As James Baldwin said, "If they come for you in the morning, they'll be coming for me later that night."

The comments are clearly not from Black women. Nor do they frequently have black women comment because many of the comments reek of a) outright racism and b)a very narrow ideal of beauty.

And I can assure you that they will just transfer their aingst from Dr. Rice to Michelle Obama.

As James Baldwin said, "If they come for you in the morning, they'll be coming for me later that night."

Y'all are right. Their primary ctitique of Dr. Rice always appears to be what they think she looks like and it is that way with almost any woman who is OUT THERE, but I don't think they have a clue that in addition to being sexist, their comments are racist and they have likely not ever been confronted by a Black woman in the comments section.

I think picking Condi for Veep would be political suicide for McCain. With all the hatred for the Bush administration, even among Repubs, why choose one of the key figures of that administration as a running mate? Not to mention that the choice would reek of tokenism. Hmmm...I may face a woman or black person for the POTUS spot, well why not pick me a black woman running mate?

Anyway, point it moot. I don't think it's going to happen.
