Final Chapter in "Detroit A Love Story" Christine Beatty Pleads Guilty

Y'all email me about everything under the sun, how could you NOT let me know that the final chapter was written in "Detroit, A Love Story"???? Luckily I was over at Clutch Magazine,a wonderful site and blog network and they had it on their daily news feed TEN. DAYS. AGO.

Christine Beatty, chief of staff for former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, pleaded guilty Monday to charges stemming from their text-messaging sex scandal case and will serve four months in jail, according to the Wayne County prosecutor's office.... Beatty pleaded guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice, according to Maria Miller, the prosecutor's spokeswoman. Charges of perjury and misconduct against Beatty will be dropped as part of the plea arrangement, she said.

Beatty agreed to a plea arrangement under which she will serve five years probation -- the first 120 days to be served in jail -- and pay a $100,000 fine, "based on [Beatty's] ability to pay," Miller said. CNN.com

You can watch video of Christine admitting her guilt in court over at the Detroit Free Press. She's the first person in the whole ordeal that acted as if they had a lick of sense and had the decency to cry. I don't know why she cried, I hope its because she realizes how wrong she was in ending the careers of two police officers in order to cover up a relationship that didn't mean a dadgum thing to Kwame Kilpatrick.

Her display of emotion give me some hope that she can be redeemed, unlike a certain former mayor of Detroit who appears to be a sociopath incapable of believing he can do wrong.

What About Her Daughters?

During her four month prison sentence, her daughters ( who have a DADDY) will be taken care of by a "network" of family and friends:
For now, the family will concentrate on child care issues before Christine Beatty reports to jail Jan. 5 to serve 120 days.

Defense lawyer Mayer Morganroth said the children will be cared for by a network of relatives and friends. He said he was pleased Beatty will be able to spend the holidays with her daughters....

Lou Beatty ( THEIR DADDY) will visit the children, Morganroth said. Lou Beatty, who declined to comment Monday, has worked for General Motors Corp., though Morganroth said Monday that Lou Beatty is now seeking a job.Chris Beatty Sr. said Lou Beatty hasn't spoken to him in detail about the criminal cases involving his ex-wife. But he's doing his best to move on with his life. FREEP

Why aren't they staying with their father? Why is he "visiting" his kids while their mother is in jail? I hope that is a typo or misstatement or these girls have bigger issues than Mommy going to jail.  What the heck is a network of family and friends?

FYI- Kwame MAY have placed his plea deal in jeopardy- I'M SHOCKED!

While Kwame may be addicted to the melodrama, it appears that after last week's plea, Christine Beatty is ready to start a new book. THE. END!

My mom always said that good sense is very expensive.

Well she's paid a heavy cost, but so did those police officers she and Kwame canned.

Hi,
I wanted to apologize for my neglect in updating you on the KK/CB happenings in Detroit. You know, I really don't think this is over. Prosecutor Kym Worthy has over 600,000 text messages that her office is investigating, attorney Norman Yatooma is still investigating the death of Tamara Greene, the young woman reportedly beaten by Carlita Kilpatrick and later shot to death; Kilpatrick's dad is being investigated for some sort of pay to play scandal involving city hall...

Somehow I think KK/CB will be involved in the thick of things when all is said and done.

I'm keeping my seatbelt on cause this ride has not come to a full stop yet.

Sidebar: I LOVE KIM WORTHY. I just sent the link to the article about Kwame violating the terms of his plea agreement. She lives outside of Detroit. She will be happy.

At least it appears that Beatty is at least repentant. Hopefully she has learned her lesson that being a mistress is STUPID, especially when you ALREADY HAVE A HUSBAND. I am puzzled that the children will not be with the father. Why not?

Well I am sure the feds have something else coming down the pike, but just getting themt o the point of saying YEAH, We Did IT! was closure for me.

Her hair was fabulous. She should stick with layers and stay away from bobs.

December 11, 2008 | Unregistered Commentergem2001

I love her hair, too. LOL

Yeah, My co-worker told me about this on the day that it happened. I didn't even realize you hadn't made a post about it. It was on this site that I read the sad text messages between her and Kwame. Lawd! That relationship was so one sided. He said just enough to continue to be her Vajajay-whisperer.

What's up with her hubby? If he is out of work I can see why he doesn't primary custody, but it still seems odd.

Oh good Lord. I'm still stuck on the daughters not being able to stay with the father during mommy's prison term. What kind of hot ghetto mess is that - when a 'network of family and friends' have to take over for a father who is ABLE ENOUGH TO VISIT THE KIDS?? ::shaking my head::

I spent a couple of months in Detroit earlier this year.

The city is a mess.

And I don't feel sorry for Christine Beatty.

She knew what she was doing. If she didn't want to go to jail she could have come clean earlier and worked out a deal. Instead she felt she was above the law (just like her married co conspirator). Her strategy was to let it drag out for months so that the heat would die down so she would get a better deal.

Those are not the actions of a person sorry for what they did.

The way this site paints her as a reformed victim is ridiculous. The real victims are her family, friends, children and ex-husband who have to deal with the stench of her actions.

I heard about this, but I guess since there were no more
textual healing going on the story went under the radar.
Gina, network of family and friends means aunts and grandma. I don't know when the memo went out to some men that somehow members of the mothers family have more responsibility in taking care of their children than they do.
I guess Lou Beatty has fallen on hard times so he feels the kids will be better off with other family members. I guess only men have this option b/c when moms are going through hard times they usually keep their kids with them anyway. I bet Christine will take responsibility of her kids back the day she comes out of jail.

are any of us really truly surprised. in the black community, black men come in first, then black women, THEN black children. is anyone really surprised that the black father, whom i'm sure he is his 1st priority, is opting to look after himself first instead of taking care of his children. is anyone really truly surprised. in the black community, priorities are so out of whack, it's like adults FIRST, children last. when in functional cultures it would be children first, adults last

just yesterday i was watching a show that mentioned how corrupt nigeria was, that the country has a lot of oil but no one BUT THE GOVERNMENT ie (the president and his minions) benefit from the oil money. that got me to thinking (especially after reading about kwame) what if black men ruled america, can we all pause and consider that for a second, what if black men ruled america. would america be any better than haiti, africa or any where else that black men have ruled/abused. why is it that all these places were they rule, why are the countries falling apart. LOOK AT DETRIOT, why is an AMERICA city in that kind of state, why???

December 12, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMary

Isn't this another example of life being stranger then fiction...and regarding daddy and the kids..good question..however I'm glad she has friends and family who will be there..

I hope she is able to make it through her ordeal and come out a better person...able to help more of us see more clearly regarding truth and it's value...we all need a reality check at certain times in our lives...

My guess is if they were four boys they'd be staying with their dad...but four girls, usually grandma and aunties come into play. There's hair to contend with, menstrual cycles, and whole slew of other things that Dad alone probably ain't well equipped to deal with on his own.

And if he's out of work, my guess is he'll be spending his time and energy looking for work and the girls will need someone to look after them full time.

It's not that odd.

December 13, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJJ

JJ,

So it's OK to dump your own female children on other female relatives if you're a male? I highly doubt that he wold take care of them exclusively if they were all boys either. We see this example everyday of men abandoning their male and female children or shifting the responsibility to other female relatives.

Naw it ain't over. Both Kwame and Chistine are still facing MORE charges stemming from kickbacks dealing with federal contracts. Suposedly Christine and Kwame was hooking up a high school friend who owns a construction company. The texts have already been confiscated. She's on record telling her friend how much to bid and what to say and what to write so he was guaranteed to win every bid. Ya'll know this is some major time right here! They said that on many occasions she paid this friend directly out of petty cash and everything! The ysaid this dude has made millions off of these contracts.

I hurt for my city. But glad that I no longer live there anymore.

@chartreuse we never said she was a "victim" in fact, we've clowned her on a time or two, but I think she's the only one who has had any public demonstration or regret in this whole debacle, granted I am comparing her to Kwame.

The two cops in this case are the victims. And yes, she probably should have turned on Kwame in exchange for a plea. I know I would have.

Mary,

Why do you hate black men so much? White men rule America and black people, both male and female are no better off under their rule.

You mention Haiti and Nigeria as examples of a black man's lack of fitness to lead, but you can't be so naive to ignore the other factors that have contributed to the plight of those countries.

What is a functional culture?

Christine is just as guilty of destroying Day-Twat as Kwame. She was not forced to whore herself out to Kwame, or the cheat on her husband, or to provide a concubine example of womanhood to her daughters.

How do you know that the father has abandoned them? How do you know he wasn't taking care of his children while his wife was out screwing?

I understand some of your points about black men putting themselves first; I share some of your sentiments. However, I am not going to share in your pathologizing all black men based on your glib and poor analyses of the corruption of DayTwat, Haiti, and Nigeria.

Some black women are just as culpable of destroying black communities.

December 14, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBLKSeaGoat

“Why do you hate black men so much?”

Blkseagoat, it’s not a matter of hating black men, it’s a matter of calling out their many shortcomings. As you know, black women and children are often the victims of black men, (not just physically but often emotionally and economically) hence my venom at these men. Sometimes I have to brace myself before coming on this site because I will hear about some poor black woman or child being abused and then ignored. However I’m grateful that at least SOMEONE cares. As a black woman, it is heartbreaking for me cause I love myself and my womenfolk. So excuse me if I don’t look favorably at black men who hurt ‘us’ so much.

“ White men rule America and black people, both male and female are no better off under their rule.”

So, we should all move to congo or nigeria where bm can rule over us and show us how ‘brilliant’ they are. Negro PLEASE!!!

“You mention Haiti and Nigeria as examples of a black man’s lack of fitness to lead, but you can’t be so naive to ignore the other factors that have contributed to the plight of those countries.”

Nope, believe me, before deciding on medicine, I was an international affairs major. So believe me, I know the dirt that the western world commits on the third world. but lets not get it twisted, okay? I’m African and not afraid to say it, our useless governments are responsible for most of the stuff going on in our countries. how can a country, like Nigeria, be one of the top oil producers yet no one, but the government, enjoys the profits. This is simply shameful. It’s corruption and greed that’s preventing the government from developing the country.

“What is a functional culture?”

Hmm, like white American culture where men supporting their children is THE NORM, where child abandonment is NOT THE NORM, where men will battle with you FOR YEARS to be able to see their kids. That is a functional culture where obviously children are placed first. Btw, I know this question was a bait, so that I can mention white men, so that you can point out that I’m a white man loving black woman that hates black men. I don’t love white men, I love men that HONOR THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES and UPLIFT THEIR OWN KIND. don't you Blkseagoat?

“Christine is just as guilty of destroying Day-Twat as Kwame. She was not forced to whore herself out to Kwame, or the cheat on her husband, or to provide a concubine example of womanhood to her daughters.”

When did Christine become the mayor of Day-Twat (that’s really funny btw) to destroy it. last time I read, it was Kwame who was the mayor and therefore had the responsibility of doing whatever mayors are supposed to do. Shame on Christine but double shame on kwame, he’s the one that made promises to the people, NOT CHRISTINE.

“How do you know that the father has abandoned them? How do you know he wasn’t taking care of his children while his wife was out screwing?”

How do any of us know? But all I know is, if it was the father that went to jail, many people would be OUTRAGED if Christine decided to sent her children off to friends and family. They simply would be. But since christine’s ex is a “po black man”, no one is outraged that he will NOT be looking after his kids, only visiting them.

“I understand some of your points about black men putting themselves first; I share some of your sentiments.”

Thank you, I knew I wasn’t hallucinating.

“However, I am not going to share in your pathologizing all black men based on your glib and poor analyses of the corruption of DayTwat, Haiti, and Nigeria.”

It was an OBSERVATION (which obviously touched a nerve). I do not take anything back.

“Some black women are just as culpable of destroying black communities.”

Hmmm, yeah, anyone is capable of destroying their own communities, after all, all that’s required is a damaged individual. however, I would say a majority of black women CHOOSE not to do that. Black men on the other hand……
When black women start abandoning their children in droves, when they start shooting and killing black folks like it’s in style, when they start harassing bm who are simply minding their own business while walking on the street and when black women start publically degrading black men THEN i would start throwing some venom at black women, but till then, sorry black men, it’s going to have to be you. And please don’t reply to me about how ‘non-black men are horrible too’, I don’t care. You clean your own backyard first before cleaning someone elses.

[Why aren’t they staying with their father? Why is he “visiting” his kids while their mother is in jail? I hope that is a typo or misstatement or these girls have bigger issues than Mommy going to jail. What the heck is a network of family and friends?]

- This is one of the big problems in the area of Fathers Rights (although there's really no such thing as "Fathers Rights"). It has been an issue for years. It's not always the fathers fault. It has to do with unfairness that is actually built into the State Courts across the Country.
The Courts almost never give custody of children to the father.... whether its a divorce, mother being arrested, mother passing away.... and sometimes, even if there is abuse in the mothers home. Men can't even get temporary Custody.

This is common even if the Father has his life together and wants to be involved with his Children.

Despite having a biological mother who was clearly unfit.... an alcoholic/drug addict, and had all sorts of other issues... my father (who could have provided a safe/stable home and had his **** very much together) was unable to get me when he tried to go through the proper legal channels. The Courts worked against him...and against my interests.

The Courts are indirectly responsible for the abuse and deaths of children all over the Country because of this desire to keep children with mothers....instead of putting children in the best place possible.

I also hopped around from family member to family member... it was horrible. And it is always the mothers side of the family ..... which means your unfit mother is still calling the shots (even if she's in jail or wherever), she still has access to you, and she can still make your life miserable...and can put you in harms way.
