Gwen Ifill Breaks her Ankle. Still Plans to Moderate Biden-Palin Debate

The Blogmother
Have mercy! Gwen Ifill, who is going to be hosting the Vice Presidential debate on Thursday ( Join us for our live blog and post debate podcast), has broken her ankle.
I've been waiting weeks for a Black woman to be center stage as a moderator. If you will recall Gwen was the one that asked Vice President Chaney about the affect of HIV on Black women in the last VP debate. You know Jim Jehrer would not have asked that question.
Well anyway, Gwen says that despite the broken ankle she plans to soldier on. That's right Gwen. Take a bag of frozen peas and slap them on that ankle, and go on with the show. The whole world will be watching to see what Joe Biden and Sarah Palin do on Thursday.

For those of you who thought last weeks debate was a snooze fest, we've been told that our liveblog is pretty interesting. Join the huddled masses as we engage in serious public discourse on important matters such as tie colors, facial expressions and play a non-alcoholic drinking game with overused phrases from the candidates. Don't worry, we're taking shots of apple cider not liquor as we have at least one participant who is nursing. TMI I know, but that's just how I felt when that popped up in my live blog.
PBS' Gwen Ifill has broken her ankle after tripping and falling down stairs at her home last night, a NewsHour insider tells TVNewser. We're told Ifill had been walking up a staircase, carrying research related to her moderating duties at Thursday's Vice Presidential debate in St. Louis, when she took a wrong step. TV NEWSER [hmmm. Tripped going UP the steps you sure Tavis or Roland weren't around Gwen?]

Gwen Ifill made a sharp statement against McCain! Everything is very consistent and clear! I SHOCKED!!!

Perhaps, therefore, removed from the debate that it was for Thursday
I can already predict that the loser in this debate will be gwen ifill. If she’s too tough on Palin she’s be accussed of sticking with her race, if she’s too soft on Palin she’ll be accused of sticking with sticking with her gender. I know she’ll be objective, but it doesn’t matter, because people will see what they want too.
The debate hasn’t even started and she’s already getting calls to step down from the right wing, because she has a book coming out that critiques Obama’s candidacy, in addition to other post-civil rights era black politicians. Of course because she’s black, it’s assumed that the book is a favorable autobiography of Obama, although no one has read a single solitary page of it.
I find it very interesting that of all the presidential debates we’ve had this year, she’s the only moderator who people feel the need to vet. I also don’t appreciate how pundits, in reference to the debate, need to state the disclamer “gwen ifill’s a respected journalist”, every time they discuss her, as if THEY need to qualify her. She’s one of the few actual journalists left on tv and she’s from one of the only networks that actually has objective political news and analysis left. I remember in 2004 she was accussed of favoring the Repubs during the debate, because of her supposed friendship w/ Condi. A sista just can’t get a break!
I do not know if I will catch all of the debate live. I already have a commitment at 6pm that evening. However I may jump in on the podcast. I hope to be home by then. I really like the live blogging thing. Last week was fun.
