CNN Can't Report On Crimes Committed AGAINST Black Women...Only Those Committed BY

So I am not going to even lie. When I saw the headline about a woman chasing neighborhood children in a cow suit, the image that popped up in my mind was NOT of a Black woman. Well surprise! CNN will put Black women on the front page of their website, but only if we are committing crimes."32-year-Michele Allen was sentenced to a month in the Middletown Jail Monday after she was arrested and charged with chasing children, blocking traffic and yelling at police - all while wearing a cow costume." When this picture popped up I was just MAD! Who gave her this suit and why didn't they make her at least take off the hood for the mug shot?
You can read the police report at The Smoking Gun.
Oh yeah and you Obama fans are going to be real mad at this one I found when scrolling through the mug shots of the week.

Why am I not surprised? I'm sure there are a million and one articles about white (both sexes) and black male victims.
Oh My God!!! It is time for me to go to bed.
In all fairness. I don't think they put her on the front page because she was black. They did it because she was wearing a cow costume of all things. Its just like when they put that child predator on the front page for wearing the worlds greatest dad t shirt. I'm more surprised that the pathetic newser-tainment channels haven't been airing this 24-7.
"When this picture popped up I was just MAD! Who gave her this suit and why didn’t they make her at least take off the hood for the mug shot?"
Whoa, whoa, whoa....
Where was this same indignation when the video of Christine Beattie answering questions from the DA was put on the internet? Transcripts are one thing but the release of that video was designed to humiliate.
I am for punishing a crime but not using humiliation as a form of punishment. Releasing the pic of the woman in a cow suit is completely inappropriate but so was releasing the video of Beattie.
In the final scene of "The Bedford Incident", Richard Widmark adds a vicious edge to the game of cat and mouse he is playing with a Soviet submarine. He intentionally comes close to ramming it. One of his advisors on the ship, a former German U-Boat commander, scolds "Those are men down there with wives and families...."
Let us have consistency in our recognition of humanity. Posting the pic of the woman in a cow suit was uncivil but so was posting the video of Beattie. This is not what King John, King Henry, Parliament, our early colonial judiciaries, and our founding fathers had in mind when constructing a fair and just legal system. CNN is NOT operating in that spirit and neither was the legal system in Detroit. We have to have balance and a consistency in our application of civil standards and the recognition of human dignity. Its okay to punish but its not okay to humiliate in any case.
First of all, when I say "mad" as in "too through". Of course they did this for a laugh and to humiliate this woman IF she is capable of being humiliated. I suspect this isn't her first run in with law enforcement.
As for Christine... I HAVE shown compassion for her. That video deposition was not a criminal matter it was civil and she was not dressed up in costume.
might I add that Christine Beatty ruined the lives of two life long law enforcement officers by use of her official capacity covered it up and cost a broke city 8 million dollars.
now if they put up a picture of christine in house slippers with pink rollers in her hair then I will be howling right there with you Al
I'm just trippin' over the mug shot of the Obama supporter....Lawd, have mercy!!!!
Gem, I have no problem with video taping a deposition. My problem is with releasing it to the public. I'm sure that transcripts could have been released instead. This is no different than anti-Clinton people releasing the Lewinsky transcripts read by a woman in a seductive tone of voice.
These things cater to the base desires in man - lust, vengence, etc., I like vices as much as the next person but I have a problem when such enjoyment comes at the expense of others. This dehumanizes not only the victim but the "voyeur" as well. Its one thing for me to lock myself up in a room and drink till I am piss drunk. Its something else when someone finds out that I did that and tells the people in my community.
What CNN did as well as releasing the video is inappropriate and edges us closer and closer to uncivil and inhuman behavior. I'll be the first to admit that a part of me is like "good for Christine" because of the lives she has ruined but I have to be cognizant of the way our society works. Its a contract of sorts. I relinquish my right to retribution when I've been wronged. Government has the job of punishing a crime. There are channels through which it goes to accomplish those ends. None of which has anything to do with holding an individual up to public ridicule and humiliation. The humiliation, when a by product of the imposed sanctions, results is okay. There is no intent to humiliate or ridicule.
The government of Detroit had an obligation to not release the video. The transcripts is another story. CNN is equally wrong and it reveals the ignorance of newroom editors who are charged with the task of reporting news in a democratic society. We do have freedoms but we also have responsibilities.
Ok, I have to admit that when I first saw the pic I laughed out loud. I mean, the woman is in a friggin' cow costume with udders and eerything!
I think it's part of the "bleed to lead" news era we are in. But I agree that CNN needs to put more black victims on page one.
Also, are you sure she didn't WANT to keep those ears on. The arrest report said she was intoxicated and quite indignant. I don't know the protocol for mugshots but usually people are asked to remove their hats and stuff. Maybe she refused? Or maybe they just wanted to humiliate her - either way she should not have been out there acting a fool and bothering those children.
I guess I looked at this differently. When I was young but old enough to go trick or treating with friends it was reported that there was a criminal that was going around dressed up as a bunny and hurting people. This was 40 years ago so I don't remember if people were killed but it put enough fear in my parents that the first year I was old enough to go I was not allowed. I have never had the pleasure of getting candy from folk:)
I'll be honest. When I saw the video I thought (1) she was either high or drunk or (2) she was mentally unstable. I sincerely hope she was not doing that in her right mind. The chick should have stayed home.
I also think that would have been posted no matter the race or sex of the person. That is absolutely insane.
I meant to say when I saw the photo:)
Maybe those little bastards needed to be chased, and for affect, in a cow suit. Just saying.
I cannot believe you (AL) are comparing THIS to Christine Beatty's situation. There is NO comparison. It's the electronic age - depos are filmed AND released to the public because they're public record. So are transcripts and articles of discovery. Most people - especially adults - realize that IF they commit a crime, the odds are they will be humiliated down the road. Whether by a depo, or the actual arrest and mugshot, or the trial, or hey, how about the sentencing and subsequent criminal record?
Ms. Beatty knew what she was doing, just like every other criminal out there. She just thought she was a little slicker than the average, but she wasn't. She's no better than anyone else, including the Cow Woman.
Our mommas - at least, MOST of our mommas - told us about the consequences of acting a fool. That has never been more true than today when we have the internet and You Tube and email and many other ways to ensure that your fool behind will be broadcast to every corner of the earth.
Please believe that Beatty's humiliation has only just begun. She has chosen to not take a plea deal and wants instead to go to trial and have all of the dirt revealed to the public - the text messages, hotel receipts, multiple women, everything. Obviously, you care more about her reputation than she does.
Besides, there was nothing embarrassing about her depo - heck, she plead the fifth on 98% of the questions!!! So what exactly is your beef?
I am "UTTER"ly appalled! *giggles* Okay, I know that was lame, but I couldn't help myself.
I am from the same city as this woman and unfortunately there are mental issues involved. However, I have a problem in the way that the media has exploited her. She will never understand how everybody in the world is capable of viewing her mugshot. She's had a rough life and unfortunately, many people are quick to judge. I am offended because it was not the media's and the Middletown Police Deoartment place to exploit her like they did. Just keep her in your prayers.
Well said, 80's Baby!
I've been fighting back a laugh as I was reading through these posts, but your post helped sober me up.
If mental issues are involved, to me, that makes a difference. Now, if you just grabbed yourself a cow suit and started chasing kids down the street - yeah, you need to expect to be seen on CNN.
CNN, MSNBC, and FoxNews stopped reporting real news ages ago.
I'm just glad Paris Hilton hasn't been mentioned lately.
