Who is Looking Out for Megan Williams? I'm Starting to Wonder
Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 10:08PM
Gina, The Blogmother
Megan Williams' statement is in the news. Is that her mother giving reporters the middle finger? I know there are folks with differing viewpoints on revealing the names and faces of victims of sexual assault, but something about how this woman is appearing in the media just doesn't sit right with me. I have not nailed it down. I am not saying she does not need to speak out, that is her right, but either she is A) developmentally challenged or B)extremely unsophisticated. Under either scenario, she is in a position of being exploited and I don't get a "we're protecting her" vibe from anybody.
Now the New Black Panther Party is headed to town to "teach" the residents how to deal with racism.
Y'all know how I have that sixth sense.... I'm getting a train wrecky vibe that is about to pop off in West Virginia. My fellow Texans are very familiar with Quanell X? prepare for the third ring to be added to the circus. Fellow Texans, weigh in.
I don't think they care about this WOMAN, I think once again, the Black woman is about to be made a pawn in the never ending battle between Black and White men.
Diary of an Anxious Black Woman also has some thoughts on this issue.
Any thoughts?

It has been said that she has mental issues (for lack of knowing exactly what they are).
Of course its going to be a circus.
I am worried about Megan. She should be somewhere safe and comfortable resting.
Additionally, the new black panther party only care about Megan because the "the white man and white woman" have victimized her, now if it was at the hands of the Black man than they would be silent and "immorally" indifferent (i.e. Dunbar rapes).
I have been trying to get in touch with a family representative, but have failed to do so. But, I will try again tomorrow.
And yes I am a Texan and I know of his foolery (is foolery even a word).
Foolery is not a word per se, but we are partial to "FOOLISHNESS" round here.
This is NOT going to be pretty for this woman in any case, but with this third ring being added, this is just going to be really bad.
the Black woman is about to be made a pawn in the never ending battle between Black and White men.
Preach it. Preach it. I am compiling a list of all the reasons why no one has stepped to the plate to highlight the injustice against the seven lesbian women who were defending themselves and are now rotting in jail. What I keep coming back to is this, there is nothing in it for white and black men to fight over. Neither side have anything to win therefore they could care less about those women. Some are mothers, most if not all had no priors.
There is something about Megan Willians parents that feel like they want to get paid.
fal, I think tomfoolery would suffice.
Oh geez, I was wondering when the fucktards would show up? What exactly do they have to protest? The police followed up on an anonymous tip. Went to the house, rescued the vic and have the perps in custody. A whole litany of charges have been filed. What the hell else does the NBP want. Oh yeah, that's right the continuing exploitation of black women in the non-ending saga of getting their dicks back. NOW I think this young woman needs some help. If these people get their clutches on her it'll be all over but for the shouting.
if youve read the Anxious Black Woman's blog, she saw it coming a mile away.
Gee Roslyn,
Tell us how you really feel. I actually am going to need a WAOD correspondent dedicated specifically to cover Megan Williams because with Quanell coming to town, the foolishness is forthcoming.
To kitty glenglover,
there is organizing on the web about Newark 7.

Gem, I am with you. I am not surprised, no need for me to elaborate again. I too saw this coming a mile back and made a “hypothetical” comparison even when posting on the Dunbar rape months back. I've also recently noticed other things and I have more predictions, but I rather keep them to myself trying to stay positive.
I'm going to have to ride this one out, with prayers and cybor support for Megan. -geez man

BINGO. That's exactly what I thought when I saw her mom on TV. Does anyone know how old Megan is?
Megan is 20 years old
Fal, not good enough. I know about Women's Space, I am there all the time. Where are the men in protest for the Lesbian 7 like Jena 6,--that is my point. Nothing is in it for the menz, therefore they do not care. Where is Al Sharpton? It is black on black, so he is not around. Nothing to be gained by pointing out black on black crime. Just like it fester behind closed doors.
And where is Megan Williams father in all of this? It all works out for the men. After it blows up in the mom's face he can talk shit about her, even though he did not step up and prevent it. Some may say he has not been in her life so he has no say in the matter (if this is the case), if so, another classic case of the man gets off the hook because he has not been involved. The mother gets the worse of the shaming, suspicions, etc because she was the parent that stuck around.
Kitty how do we know he is not around? He just might have been out of the camera shots. He might be low key.
We don't, that's why I said "if this is the case."
I saw him once, but I haven't seen him again. And if those fools show up we will have gone past foolishness and right into fucknuttery.
First off, I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by "Never ending battle between Black and White men"?
It seems to suggest that brothers only concern is this "war" with "White Men", black panthers or not, can't actually care about the blatant abuse of a black woman? Just because hip hop videos today reflect a lack of concern, I don't think that extends to all black men by default.
Politically speaking, of course the BPP are only going to stir the pot, but the pot they are not responisble for being there in the first place.
Now I'm not one to feel Black males should lost advocates in order to advocate for Black females. I feel females should get just as much.
But why wasn't the BPP in West Palm Beach. A woman was gang raped by maybe as many as 10 males, forced to perform oral sex on her own 12-year old son.
No, all Black men aren't hip hop artists but its the lack of advocacy on behalf of Black women and the advocacy is missing even more when the guilty party is a Black male.
Its not a battle (at least for me) of who has it worse. Its that the women are struggling and dying too. When can they get a Jena 6 march? Don't take it away from the males but give a little love to the women. We need support. But I'm at the point where I'll point out the inconsistencies but if it takes hopping in my car and showing support thats what I'll do.
There shall be no more waiting around.
I already posted my thoughts on this way back when on my blog.

Thanks, Miriam, for the shoutout.
Then we should take this to its logical end. The NAACP, Jesse, Al, Mary Mitchell, Michael Eric Dyson, whomever, nobody paid any attention to the case down in Dunbar except US, Black Bloggers, male and female, black and white for that matter.
Nor did they pay attention to the Jena 6, Genarlow Wilson and a host of other things that have happened, WE did.
With the disrespect and objectification of Black women in Hip-Hop and R&B, again, they were late to the table WE set to get the discussion going.
The BPP, NAACP, whomever, though in varying degrees, are still operating in an old civil rights paradigm, WE male and female, black and white are bloggers, but more importantly we represent another generation, and we should take the mantle of leadership and press forward in the blogsphere and outside of it.
Because, it seems, we are able to see crimes against HUMANS above gender and race, which suits us better for the battle ground in Black America and America in general beyond the civil rights paradigm.
Dj_black_adam, I concur with you 100%. However, how do we get passed the point of seeing things from the perspective of race and gender???
I really feel for Megan. She looks like she may be mentally challenged.
I also feel sorry for her mother. Life is not a dress rehearsal. We make wrong decisions in life and we have to pay a hell of a price as a result. Going public with her daughter’s identity was not a good thing. Megan has to now worry about public scrutiny and pending charges all while trying to heal from emotional and physical trauma caused by some evil individuals.

We 1st acknowledge that we have biases predicated on the social realities of race and gender (above the physiological differences in gender and the superficial actuality of the fiction of “race”).
Then we just have to exercise human empathy (for those of us who are not sociopaths, we should be able to muster that up). For example, I am not a female, but I was horrified at what I heard about in Dunbar or with what happened to Megan Williams. Why, because 1, I as a person know that I would not want to endure such pain and humiliation and can identify with another human even of another gender through empathy, even though I cannot know through direct identification what a woman goes through in life, 2, I have a mother, sisters, nieces, aunts, etc. and female friends, whom I don’t ever want to imagine that sort of horror happening to.
Now as a Black person, and descendant of the Africans of the Diaspora, I identify with the Haitian lady and Megan Williams as my sisters (closer in family than the general human family), so I want justice for them, and hope to do what I can to see that.
Overall, I’m saying that we just have to care about each other, a simple concept, but profound in its simplicity.

I agree, however, we can keep this story of Megan the HUMAN in our mouths and blogs, and we keep putting the national media on front street when they focus on other aspects of this persons life or try to minimize her ordeal or her pain.
Ok, I thought there was something wrong with her, but her mother is a trip. I didn't understand why she was putting her daughter on display like a doll of some sort, and the daughter seemed sort of spacey. I thought the mother very strange indeed.
In a nutshell, we have to embrace that we are our sisters and brothers' keepers. We are apart of one face and that is the human race. No man is an island. Our action or inaction (omission) impacts the next man or woman. We are all neighbors on this planet call Earth.
Allow me to quote Galatians 3:28: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”

You see, Gina, this sums up why I had a fallen out with my friend. I perceived the SR post as focusing on other aspects of Megan's life to minimize her ordeal or her pain; and to me that was just unconscionable. I still; however, love my blog sister. : - )
The Meagan story should not go unnoticed. We as blacks need to stick together on this one and give this story the much needed attention it deserves
I’ve already suspected that Megan Williams is developmentally delayed. The media releasing statements from people who were acquaintances saying that she was “very trusting” and her own mother saying she would disappear for weeks helped confirm my suspicion. Moreover, it was confirmed that she had “learning” disabilities. The truth is that she is developmentally delayed. That Bobby Brewster psychopath was not “dating” her; he was having sex with a mentally disabled young woman. Megan Williams was victimized because of her race, disability, and gender. Those monstrous troglodytes were going to kill her. They should have charged all six with attempted murder and sent them to life in prison without parole.
you are right about megan williams disbilities is not great but she was abuse by carmen williams and matthrew williams i know i was there megan williams was taken from 216 stockton st. isept. 2007 no rat dogg poo no christa etc. it is a twisted truth of megan williams i got megan s little sister shayla williams too i papers on what i am talking about please do not jugde me just help me get back a.s.a.p thanks
I was surprised a lot when I read through your solid note reffering to this post. I just couldn’t consider that such kind of custom essays has been written not by writing service! You’re a famous master, I think.
