The Showdown in A-Town! - D.L. Hughley Comes to Austin,TX

Okay, we don't call it A-town, that just rhymed. Anyway, I just had a lovely conversation with an officer with our police department who gave me a lovely primer on "How Not to Get Arrested or Get Your Car Towed While Exercising Your Freedom to Peaceably Assemble in Austin,TX." So despite information to the contrary, I do not need a parade permit to demonstrate against D.L. Hughley when he comes to Austin to perform at the Capital City Comedy Club on August 17, 18, and 19th. I just have to stay on the sidewalk and median and not block the entrance to the strip mall where he will be performing. So come out and join me on Friday, August 17, 2007 beginning at 4:30PM (Our first Local news goes on at 5:00 and again at 6:00PM)

Location:
SAVE YOUR MONEY! D.L. Hughley= NOT FUNNY! Demonstration
Cap City Comedy Club
8120 Research Blvd
Austin TX 78758

More Details to Follow

Folks from out of town, make it a weekend event. What better way to end the Summer than to give the kids a living breathing example of the Constitution at work? Take off Friday and go to the Capitol and the many museums in town and then drive up to North Austin to greet Mr. Hughley and let him know that we don't find his brand of humor very funny at all. Then stay over and take the kids to Sea World of Fiesta Texas or the Natural Bridge Caverns. I'll be starting a local publicity blitz to let the world know about his comments on the the Tonight Show. He's not going to get a free ride from the local reporters this time. SAVE YOUR MONEY! D.L. Hughley= NOT FUNNY!

For those of you who say that what he said was just a joke, that isn't what Hughley is saying when he is on a current campaign to defend himself. He wasn't joking. He has contempt for African American women in their natural state ( meaining untouched by the blade of a plastic surgeon). Read more here.

Gina McCauley, you're a good person. But I think you're going a bit too far. I disagree with what D.L. Hughley said. It was uncalled for and the man could have articulated his point without attacking the girls. But staging a protest against him won't work. He will get unnecessary publicity. People will be on his side. Once again, I don't support D.L. Hughley. But what you're will not work. Trust me. Thank you.

WOW! Is that a Challenge? Are you saying that there is something I CAN'T do? I don't care if he gets publicity. Staying silent about this foolishness is just as bad.

You be apathetic if you want to, but I find it laughable that you are taking the initiative to tell me to sit down and do nothing.

Thanks for your encouragement and support though.

Glad to see you are still going Gina. Let me know if you have something for me to forward to ABA members. I hope the media really pays attention now because of your recent activism celebrity!

I had to pray before I responded to this post. I do not like DL’s brand of comedy. He picks people out of the audience and proceeds verbally assault them in the name of comedy. He is brutal.

If you read between the lines in his S2S interview, you will learn that he was teased as a child and his biological father had abandoned him. It was not a happy child.

He still has not forgiven his teasers and father. The roots of bitterness and revenge continue to grow and the show no mercy, especially upon his audience. Boy do I feel sorry for his wife and children.

Pure and simple HE IS ONE MISERABLE FART. Misery loves company.

The sad part about all of this is that he is a very intelligent man, but his BITTERNESS hides his brilliance and talent.

EXACTLY!

Have you noticed that DL is the only one of the Original Kings of Comedy that has not had breakout success? Steve harvey has the radio, Cedric has done TV and has the commercials and alittle movie sucess, bernie mac is all up in Ocean's 11, 12, and 13. DL Hughley keeps getting canceled.

He is a mean bitter little man. and he is thin skinned too.

Hello there:
I was wondering why you are wasting your time by protesting? That will do very little. Why not call for a boycott of his shows? After all hitting one in the pocketbook is the most effective in our society.

If it is MY time that is being wasted, what's it to YOU? You see It's my time. not yours so I can do whatever I want to with it. It won't be wasted to me. I think I will actually enjoy it quite frankly and am excited about it.

hahahaha. I love the folks who advocate apathy! The irony of what they are doing is clearly lost on them.

I am used to y'all now. Welcome to What About Our Daughters?

People have already called for a boycott of his show, but how will people know about the boycott of his shows or why people are boycotting if we don't highlight WHY they are boycotting?

I think DL should seek some therapy to deal with his anger issues. I know many black men have an aversion towards therapy, but it would not hurt.

I cannot believe that people actually pay to be assaulted by him. If he gets rid of that aspect of his show, he would be a good comic.

Gina McCauley, I understand your position, but your protest will not work. Besides, there are more important problems in black communities in the U.S.A. like crime and gangs. Your protest won't work. I'm sorry.

I attended DL's show on Wednesday. He addressed your protest and the Imus issue head on. Basically, he said that Imus should not be taken off the air for saying something stupid because he himself has, and will continue, to say stupid things.

In his own way, he did challenge blacks to address issues in the community. He said that it was silly for us to focus so much energy on Imus- his quote "Will taking this one white man off the air resolve all of the black community's problems"

I agree with him but I also agree with your right to protest his Austin appearance.

That is the American way.
