Jesus Be a Fence! - Flavor of Love is Casting

WARNING: This post contains a link to a video with fast moving flickering images. While you may be compelled to stare intently at the images in the video due to shock or horror, DO NOT! You will get dizzy as I did (not kidding).

Flavor of Love is casting y'all. (Thanks Kim!) You can vote for which contestants will be on the show apparently. This is the foolishness that VH1 is is promoting on the Flavor of Love Casting Blog. (WARNING: IF you are prone to seizures, DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO ALONE! I wish I was joking.)

I'm writing you today to let you know that Flavor of Love is coming back to the air and they just opened up casting via this website: http://flavoroflovecasting.com/. Of particular interest is this black man in drag AND black face: http://flavoroflovecasting.com/people/SARGENTBEVERLY/videos/121.

Look, I can't take on the whole dayum world of foolishness. I have to deal with DL at the Throw Down in A-Town this month. I KNOW there is a blogger out there that can take the lead on this foolishness!

( Gina must leave her computer now in order to recover from the Sargent Beverly Video. Gina is all for being yourself and self expression, but Dear LORD! "I was so NOT prepared for that level of foolishness. I am seriously dizzy. Must. Rest. Now." )

I think this one will be tough, since the existence of "Rock of Love" somewhat absorbs some of FOL's foolishness. I understand that FOL will draw mostly black contestants and a black audience since the person of interest is Flavor Flav, however it can be argued that the women on ROL (who are mostly white) are just as wild and exploitive if not more than the girls on FOL.

Not to mention the fact that VH1. unlike a certain other network. NEVER claimed that Flavor of Love was any kind of social commentary or a reflection of the African American community.

It is what it is, complete and total foolishness.

We'll see who decides to purchase ads on it. The National Organization of Women can worry about Rock of Love. Which by the way VH1 came out with to blunt criticism of Flavor of Love.

Both shows are demeaning to women.

And another thing I forgot to say.... two wrongs don't make a right.

Gina:

You know I feel you and what you - hell we as many Black bloggers are trying to - but the reality is, BET is not a VH-1 when it comes to dollars, etc.

My recommendation: we need to prioritize and set an agenda like they are doing at BlogHer - this women - white women mind you - have got their act together as serving as advocates on some pretty vital issues.

We still need to talk. I have not stopped running since I got back from Chi-town.

Hit me up when time permits.

Peace.

Yikes! "organize" that sounds so official. I was so trying to avoid that. I would love it if different bloggers would just pick a cause and go for it.

I loath organizations with the passion of a thousand flames. That is why I like blogging. As far as priorities, again, as individual bloggers doesn't that happen organically when a particular blogger decides to get passionate about a particular issue.

Organizing and prioritizing will probably suck all of the fun out of blogging. I hear what you are saying though. I just don't want to become the online version of the some of the "organizations" we all know and loath.

IN other words. I like flying by the seat of my pants.

Content, hit me up at the gmail address.

I am unclear. Are you saying we shouldn't take on VH1 because they are too big?

I am down with the boycott against Flavor of Love and I Love NY. I hate both of these shows.

Flavor Flav, please listen to all of Public Enemy records, tapes or cds, whichever is applicable. I know Rapper Chuck D is not happy to be affiliated with you.

The coonery (I know this is not a word) has to stop!!!! Lawd, please deliver us from coonism.

Why not stop watching the show, rather than make a stink about it and bring it more ratings?

Mahndisa, ignoring the elephant that is standing in the living room. You have to send a message to the sponsors that we as Black people will not tolerate the disrespect of silly women. Yes, the women that participate in this type of exploitation are silly. We need to protect them from themselves.
