NAACP Contacts WADO- National Office Won't Be Speaking Out On Dunbar Village- Addressing Hate Crimes Against Black Women Not 'Mission'

Ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. Mission of the NAACP.
Apparently somebody at the NAACP can't tell the difference between "and" and "or."
It is What It Is.
I just had an enlightening conversation with Richard McIntyre(sp) from the NAACP's National Office in Baltimore. First, despite this story being about a month old, nobody in the NAACP National Office had apparently heard of it. Second, they were so late in returning my call because they don't check their voicemail ( his words not mine). Third, the NAACP does not get involved in Black on Black crime at the National level because it is not the result of racism. Fourth, the local Florida branch will be going to West Palm Beach on Monday(I'd ask why it took them over a month, but we have bigger battles to fight). Fifth, when asked point blank whether they would have become involved if the West Palm Beach victim had been attacked by White teenagers, Mr. McIntyre said the NAACP would probably become involved at the National level.

Mr. Mcintyre kept referring to the crimes at Dunbar Village as if they were your run of the mill crime and not an assault on humanity and civilization. When asked whether they had become involved in the dragging death of James Byrd, a hate crime, Mr. McIntyre replied that he believed that the NAACP did become involved in that case. When I pointed out that this woman appeared to be targeted because of her national origin and gender, Mr. McIntyre conceded that both of those classifications are protected classes.

Mr Mcintyre instructed me to read in order to explain why the NAACP National Office will not become involved in Dunbar Village. I have. My question for him is have the folks at the NAACP read their mission?

This was truly an "educational " experience and I actually was shocked at his candor and I thank him for it. Now that we know the narrow mission of the organization, you can adjust your dues payments accordingly. I have offered Mr. McIntyre all the space he needs on WAOD to rebut anything I have said describing our conversation. He seemed perturbed that I didn't see fit to reason with him. He kept saying " I wasn't hearing [him]." He then implied that we are just after headlines. DUH. We stated that openly that this case isn't getting nearly the attention that it should if the employees in the national office of something called the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People don't know about one of the most heinous hate crimes committed against a "colored" person I have heard of in recent history.

He also said that he had heard of me so I guess I am on the LIST of Belligerent Working Class Black Folk. Well good, because he is on OUR LIST!

Don't be mad at Mr. McIntyre. Thank him for his candor. He was honest enough to tell us that the NAACP is only interested in the advancement of colored people n cases where that advancement is inhibited by White folk. If he had not told us so, we would have just kept speculating. Now we know that the NAACP does not become involved in crimes unless the attacker is non-African American so the folks in Newark MIGHT get some response out of the NAACP. Apparently they haven't seen the statistics that Black folks make up 50% of the homicides in this country, but only 13% or the population and 85% of the time when a "Colored" person is slaughtered, it is by another "Colored " person. They have a specialty and that is that....

I just have to ask... How the hell can "Colored" people be "advanced" when they are dying in droves? What good is your housing initiative if you can't be secure inside of your house? What good is promoting education and economic empowerment, if you get gunned down over a parking lot on your way home from work?

So it looks like we know which side they are on in the War on Black Women. The answer is NOT OURS! That is very good to know. Y'all might not like it, but it is what it is.

I am struck by this prong of their mission:" To ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens." The residents of the housing projects of Dunbar Village would beg to differ.

F.Y.I. Don't hold your breath waiting on any presidential candidates addressing Dunbar Village. it slipped my mind that Florida is a "battleground state." Another blogger pointed that out to me today.

P.S. Bruce Gordon.... Now I understand COMPLETELY!

I guess NAACP is not the place to contact about Black on Black crime but maybe its the place to contact about White on Black crime. I'm okay with that. No one group will be able to completely protect everyone, not even the government with everyone's tax money can do that.

There must be some Black on Black crime reduction groups out there. I'll take a look this weekend unless someone else takes up the initiative to do so? I think Colour of Change might be such a group.

There are probably lots of unknown groups, and maybe even groups who help in housing projects. I have never lived in a housing project so what I know about them is from the media. But I have heard that they are sometimes turned into condos for wealthier people. The reason why the condos don't turn into run-down projects is because money is used to pay for security, and maintainence of the properties. But in most project developmemts they are not maintained the way other buildings are. Maybe thats the solution. More security, maintenence, zero tolerance for tenants who commit crimes, cameras, making the place look attractive, and more government funds. I think its possible for poor people to get along but not if where they live is cramped, run down, and unsafe.

Thats the conclusion I reached about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson...they have their niche issues and they stick with those.

And while I'm glad those issues are being addressed its sad that black people who need them the most are allowed to suffer the most. And its the black people who need them the most that falsely think the NAACP is advocating for them.

Most of the problems poor black people face are the ones the NAACP wont deal with.

Well we just needed the confirmation from them. I think it is good now people will realize we are on our own and build something to address Black folks needs in the 21st century.

Theya re only spelling their own doom by not evolving to address the real issues that might be hampering our advancement.

Bronze, that is fine, but I don't think they have done enough of a public education campaign to alert Black folks that they are only interested in the advancement of colored people when that advancement is inhibited by white folks.

But again. I thank the man for his candor.

It isn't just the fact that the condos have security and maintenance. This goes back to my whole point about the slander of poor folk. It is not the fact that folks are poor that many find themselves in hellholes because if you go to the mountains of Appalachia, you got grinding poverty there as well and you don't see the stuff of Dunbar Village.

The reason the condos are not run down is because the people who take the time to purchase property are too industrious to let the property be run into the ground by their neighbors. Ask any Black person living in the burbs with an HOA. They will tell you about the little old gray haired ladies that are out measuring the height of your grass and peeking over you backyard fence and sending you citations when you leave you Christmas lights up a few days too long.

I think the fact that many people who find themselves in bad housing situations happen to be poor clouds the real issues that have lead to the decline of their neighborhoods.

Most industrious people will figure out really fast that they have to do any and everything to get the hell out.

Let me assure you that it ain't bad maintenance and a lack of security guards that led to this. I've lived in gated and ungated communities let me assure you that the ones without the guard post are just as safe. The guard is useless if you got about of fools living behind the gates.

To What About Our Daughter’s Founder,

I am young black feminist who would like to help with your national shaming campaign. Well, based upon your great and technological protest, I decided to make all my friends aware of this soul stealing crime.

So, I was thinking about how to increase the public outcry concerning the Dunbar Gang Rape, I’ve been circulating an email asking if anyone knows of a documentarian who would like to document Black leaders (i.e. Al Sharpton, Jess Jackson, Michael Eric Dyson, Marian Wright Eldeman) and organizations’ (i.e. NAACP, National councils of Negro women, etc.) silences. At first this was a ploy to get people to read my email about the soul stealing crime, but the more I think about it, it would be good to actually have people document these silences through video and circulate them on the web and Youtube, etc.

Well, I love what your doing at WhatAboutOurDaughters. Using your blog to publicly shame all the "self appointed" leaders, elected leaders, and organizations that say they represent the oppressed and black interest is great way to protest against this heinous crime. Well, I would like to help your endeavor by adding another element to the shaming, which would be to do a 5 to10 minutes documentary about this silence and other silences. I am not for sure what form this would take, but it should be creative and very direct. What comes to mind as an example of what I am thinking of is thetruth.com campaign commercials against the tobacco companies.

I know this seems a little far fetched, but it is something I think can help. Of all the stories that have gone silent in the black community from Sakia Gunn's murder to the gang rape in Florida, something must be done. It just amazes me how Mike Vicks' dog can get a NAACP press conference and the violence in Florida goes unspoken.

Additionally, there are several black feminist professors in Chicago who want to talk with you concerning your campaign and day of silence. They are interested in helping.

The NAACP is the NAAPR.

They are a PR firm.

They only there when it's big money on the table.

Look at the history on them in the last 20 years. what are they really doing and what are they really about?

and whatever happened to the "United Negro College Fund"?

all of that shit was a fraud.

i applaud you for creating this blog and be for sure that im out here spreading the word.

The fact that the NAACP refuses to address these types of issues is exactly most black folks no longer see them as relevant. It is why they have declining membership, donations, and have had to close several field locations throughout the country. An aged behemoth whose time has come and gone...that's the NAACP in 2007.

I never hear white on white crime when white folk kill each other or Latino on Latino crime ,Asian on Asian, etc.Criminals are like anyone else they look for what's convenient. Why take a chance on gettig caught by making a road trip when engaging in criminal activity when you can just rob the guy down the street.Battered slave syndrome is alive and well among black people. The main people that complain about what Jessie and Al are not doing, are just do nothing negroes and mouth pieces for the establishment, saying what white folk are too coward to say in public. If you are really concerned half as much as you say, you would be too busy doing instead of complaining. You be the leader that you claim you want. Then if you did that you would'nt have anyone to look down your nose at.This whole "what about our daughters" seem to be a front for lesbians and black men haters.News flash, you don't catch hell in ths country because you are female, gay,Christian, muslim,Asian,Latno or whatever,You catch hell because you are Black. Also if black females want to really want to do something other than satisfy your addiction to drama, stop having sex with people you 've known less than 6 months and are not in a committed relationship with. And never have children oot of wedlock.Iam amazed at how black women are mad at guys that won't give them what they won't give themselves,ie self love and self respect. My wife showed me love and respect for herself and I could'nt help but follow her lead. She did 'nt get side tracked by the numbers game because she knew that quality will win out over quanity every time. Also "sisters" you need to know that real brothers are on to your little unholy alliance with the white man.All they have to do is pander to your vanity by telling you that you are smarter than the black man,the back bone of us,yada, yada and you people don't even stop to think you're being set up.Black women do better in corporate America than black men do is not because they are smarter or better than us,it's because you are more submissive than we are.Black women are more submissive to white men than white women are.Look at Condi Rice, even the white gals knew when to get off that stroll.Condi will ride and die for her pimp. She pushed ole Tobey Powell (Colin)under the bus and took over his corner.Plantion 101.Reading this blog and hearing it's creator speak on NPR on Wenesday set off every alarm in my head. You people are agent provocateurs. You are doing the massa's dirty work.Black women have let themselves be surrogate overseers, keeping an eye on us for ole massa and insinctly jumping to his defense when they feel he's been threatened.Blaming black men for Don Imus's hatred of them.Where were you geniuses when he called Maya Angelou names and called Serena and Venus monkeys? Oh that's right, you can't attach that to rappers because they don't rap about monkeys.I advise brothers to start dating black women from Africa and the Islands, because atleast they have less of a chance of suffering from cronic battered slave syndrome. You are double agents and you shows text books signs of being abused. And I won't be around or let my children be around children or adults or be exposed to people that have been abused and not gotten help because we are not qualified to deal with brokrn spirited people. We will pray for them but we won't be made to feel like the abnormal one so that some misfit can feel better about themselves. Are you really pro women or just plain ole anti black man.You and most of the females on this blog sound emotionally imbalanced at best, you are traitors at worst.

WT__?? He would have been better off ignoring your calls than providing that explanation.

I gave up on the NAACP a long time ago. I am deeply saddened to say that I have vowed not to become a part of this organization until they found their way again.

Wow, I am so flabbergasted that I cannot write any further. : - (

In the next post is a poem entitled WHEN. I wrote over 19 years old ago, when I was 20 years old. I think it is applicable to what is going on today. Nevertheless, I would like to share this poem with my blog family. Do not bite. It is already copyrighted. LOL

Sidebar: Before I became an Attorney and when I was much, much younger, I was a rapper and poet. : - ) Now you know my secrets.

When are we going to stop this madness and come together?

So that we can make our lives, our African American lives, a whole lot better.

When are we going to stop hurting our sisters and brothers,

And learn to get along with one another?

When are we going to stop being slaves to material possession?

KNOWLEDGE and EDUCATION are the keys of life, this is a true confession.

With fine clothing we nurture our skin.

But what about our souls that dwell within?

When are we going to take a look at that man or that woman in the mirror and stop blaming others for our mistakes?

Learn from them that is all it takes.

When are we going to give our sisters and brothers credit where it is due?

Instead of putting them down because you wished it was you.

When are we going to Wake Up and Learn from ancestors never to give up?

Will this be before we self destruct?

Tychalla said...This whole "what about our daughters" seem to be a front for lesbians and black men haters....Are you really pro women or just plain ole anti black man.You and most of the females on this blog sound emotionally imbalanced at best, you are traitors at worst.

I let this comment through so y'all could see the level of ignorance I deal with on a daily basis. You will see what you will be facing if you take steps to engage in self defense.

Wow, a Black woman merely asking that we not be savaged and preyed upon instantly hates Black men?

Well we know that you are not a real man. Because a real man wouldn't be threatened by what we are doing, he would delight in it.

I hear from real, fully-grown Black men everyday. They have common sense and realize that we all do better when the life source of the community( that would be those of us with a uterus) feels protected and safe.

All these persistent attacks that you and your crew keep launching on blogs run by Black women merely makes you appear to be the buffoons that y'all are.

I don't mind constructive criticism, but y'all s irrational campaign against Black female bloggers is just drawing more people to us, so keep linking to the site, your page clicks count too!

In other words... BRING IT! This train is moving on, you either get on board or step aside because if you get in the way you will be plowed over. The days of Black women apologizing for engaging in self defense are over! If that threatens you, then YOU have a problem not us.

August 11, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterg-e-m2001

For folks who are new to blogging,
Just ignore Tychalla and his brethren. This is their M.O. they have an organized campaign of threats, intimidation, and bullying aimed a Black female bloggers, but it ain't working and they are too dumb to realize that.

One Black female blogger has even had to involve law enforcement and I've been requested to issue a statement that I don't hate Black men. This was MONTHS ago and I said "Hell No, you idiots!" What about what I was doing would indicate that I hate Black men? All the men in my life LOVE what I am doing and encourage me.

So this is just a tactic of the enemy. They come into the comments section to get us riled up and respond to them by going to their blogs. It is just a tool to drive their blog traffic. In fact one of them e-mails a Black female blogger on a regular basis and complains to her about his lack of blog traffic. She had to turn off her comments completely because he and his henchmen and henchwomen would take them over. One of the reasons this blog is moderated.

Not on my watch! I am more than capable of dealing with the Anti Black Women Bloggers Cabal!

August 11, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterg-e-m2001

I am definitely not lesbian and I support WAOD. Believe me, I love and support Black men. I am married to one and raising two.

Furthermore, I am extremely conservative in my views. Whatever scripture says, I support. I do not care what is considered "politically correct." If scripture says it is wrong, then it is wrong. That settles it for me. : - )

So Mr. T's rationale or opinion is flawed.

August 11, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAttorneyMom

He has no rationale which is the point. This is what they do. For the rest of the day people will argue with the vitriol that he is spewing out in the comments section. Then you will travel over to their blogs to attack them He and his brethren thrive on it.

Yeah step one that the Anti- Black Women Engaging in Self Defense Cabal takes is 1. Label you as angry or un emotional. 1a. Place all the blame on Black women (it's yalls fault) 2. Label you as hating Black men. 3. Label you as a lesbian as if that is some kind of slur in 2007. 4. Label you a traitor to the race. 5. Engage in a campaign of threats and intimidation to try to frighten you off and silence you. 6.Whine that they are being inaccurately labeled as Haters of Black Women.

You just watch.

August 11, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterg-e-m2001

OMG Gem, that is exactly what they are doing step by step! I have gotten that same crap a few times too! Some people are really threatened by this. I'm surprised that its actually Black men rather than non-Black people. Black men should be the one's supporting this. Its really shameful to me that they are not. They really want us to sit down and walk behind them and their issues rather than stand up for ourselves.

August 11, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterBronze Trinity

My sisters in the struggle,

That argument is old -- played out, tired--don't even pay it any mind (unless it needs law enforcement). Gina, you are correct. It is a tactic of the enemy without and within. But, it will not work in 2007, at least not for me and I am judging not for you either. Battle on.

On another note, because I don't want to waste typing time on that "Mess", D.L. Hughley's poster ad that you have linked to is mind-blowing. I'm not in Austin, wish I were, but there is no way folks should attend his show. The Rutgers team does not deserve all of this. He is a sick, insecure, self-hating, misguided, profit-seeking "Trader", as in someone who will sell black women for a profit. Absolutely mind-blowing.

August 11, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterBlackWomb

These folks are so irrelevant at this point. Their irrational and uniform response to any Black woman speaking out in self defense robs them of all credibility so I welcome the opportunity to put their foolishness on display.

August 12, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterg-e-m2001

As for Mr. T, my computer will not have a cookie for your website. I kinda sort of don't care to read anything you and people with your mindset have to say or write.

August 12, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAttorneyMom

He is but a small representation of the foolishness out there. Trust!

August 12, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterg-e-m2001

I actually mentioned this last night on the podcast. I noticed that anytime a black woman has anything less than supportive to say about black men, she's IS the DEVIL. A lesbian devil at that.

But these same men protect another black man's right to call us hos, bitches, etc. The double standard in our community is unreal.
