Jameeela Donaldson FInally Trots over to WAOD- BET Releases her from BUNKER! - Welcome! You're a little late though- I'm officially bored now.

What do you do when your first foray as a television producer gets savaged by the critics and results in mediocre ratings despite the fact that your most vocal critics actually encourage people to watch your show? Well, you try to provoke your critics into providing more publicity for your show.

Folks the creator of THAT SHOW must really be needing some ratings for THAT SHOW. Gurl, I have done all I can. I can't make people watch THAT SHOW if they don't want to. Where you been? I invited you over WEEKS AGO!

All this over lil ole me. Jeez, I dont know where to begin. But I will first begin by addressing a few misconceptions about the site. Jameeela Donaldson, HOtGhettoMess.com in the comments section of What About Our Daughters. DELUSIONAL Right Up to the BITTER END!.

Welcome Jameela, I love Black men too. We have that in common. Smooches back at cha! You might want to read my post New Loyalty Oath for the Black Blogosphere. Seeing as how you are regurgitating foolishness that has already been addressed here. And NO, this wasn't all about little old you, but usually the pawn is always the last to know.

Didn't your show already premiere? So why are you finally trotting over here a week late? Did BET finally let you out of that bunker? Feel free to leave comments anytime, but we are not going to be publicizing your show anymore here. I know the ratings were disappointing, but this publicity stunt of yours is a little desperate. I ain't throwing you anymore watch parties gurl. You are on your own.

You are a day late and a dollar short and still apparently DELUSIONAL, but you're good for business so come back anytime GURL! Anytime! I have to warn you though, you are about to be bumped from our front page, but I will let you stretch your 15 minutes about 30 more seconds. It is the least I can do:)

F.Y.I. , in the future, can you refrain from just reposting comments you have made on other people's blogs? You could at least provide some original content for your nemesis the Black blogger who successfully got EVERY.SINGLE.ADVERTISER to drop your show. Surely I have provided you with something new to say. Just because your show is unoriginal does not mean that you have to be that way in real life.

UPDATE: SHE JUST KEEPS POSTING COMMENTS. IT. Won't Stop! We've moved on. You. Should. Too. As far as unkind words I think you have flung your share at me. Are your comments your idea of intellectual discussion? Poor thing. Nope, I don't think THIS site will be the one people forget in a month, but good looking out!

Once again, you are wrong. BET had nothing to do with my decision to "trot over" to WAOD. I just had enough of the falsehoods. Its one thing to dislike the site or the show but its another to tell outright untruths, so I figure I would address them below...
(btw the ratings were huge thanks to you, tee hee hee )

Um, that isn't what Reuters said Gurl. They said your ratings were kind of soft(I mean even with all of my help, you couldn't outdo Lil' Kim). F.Y.I television executive producer, BET is not in the ratings business, they are in the AD SALES business and your show didn't sell any ads. So UM.... Well.... That is not good. I have to question the judgment of anyone that would make you the executive producer of ANYTHING after some of your comments left on this blog. So thanks for directing traffic from your site to mine, I welcome the comments from your supporters, but I'm officially bored with you now. Okay!... Check out Bronze Trinity's response to the foolishness and rationalizations.

.....SO like I was saying, DL Hughley is coming to my turf!
Details soon.

Isnt it telling that you cant seem to stop posting about me and yet you were at the very bottom of my to do list of places to come and comment? is it me or do you seem a little obsessed with me? do you think im hot or something? hehehehe.

as i posted in the other blogs...

All this over lil ole me. Jeez, I dont know where to begin. But I will first begin by addressing a few misconceptions about the site.

It is owned solely and completely by me. I started it in law school and there is no source of funding other than my pretty empty pockets.

The TV show had its origin from a DVD I produced with my student loan money while still in law school. HUdlin, saw it, thought it had a great message and asked me to turn it into a series.

So the notion that this is some "staged" project, some puppet endeavor is incorrect. While I know its fun to speculate, sometimes there really is no conspiracy.

Now to the much-discussed website.
More misconceptions. Gina has stated a number of falsehoods that everyone has seem to accepted as truth.

I have not changed my site because of her accusations and suddenly remove a bunch of incriminating pictures. This is ridiculous and a lie she keeps saying. With all the hub bub over the TV show, I havent touched that site in a month.

Where are these much-touted bare breasted underage girls???????? This is all she talks about. Yet, there has not been one pic she can point to with an exposed underage girl. I guess these are the pics I have rushed to take down. This is ridiculous!!! So please dont buy into that.

OK, now for the issue of using pics without people permission and the very grey area of copyright and privacy law when it come to the internet. (sigh) What most of you dont seem to realize is that approx 95% of the pics on my site ARE ALREADY ON THE INTERNET IN SOME FORM OR FASHION. These are pics from Myspace or Black Planet or Facebook or some other online dating page or pages people have made up to promote themselves in some way. So this is not a privacy issue. I dont go rummaging through people's drawers to steal photos out of their secret showbox and post them on the internet.

Now of course, many of them are annoyed at the context in which Im placing their picture, but if you were proud enough to put it online, then tough shit.

OK, now to the pics of the kids--I have been conflicted about the pics of the kids on the site. Whe I receive these pics, because i dont know the identity of the subjects, its really hard to ignore them. So what I thought would be more helpful than ignoring them was to post them in the hopes that soemone would recognize the child or the adult and alert the parents or proper authorities. And i have actually been successful in that regard when a mother contacted me and said she had had no idea of this particular incident with her daughter.

So reasonable minds can disagree about whether these posting are appropriate or not but please note that I post them with some sense of social responsibility.

Last but not least, it amazes me that whenever there is a discussion about my site, NOONE ever mentions that in every gallery all the pics are juxtaposed with positive images of us. Its mindblowing how this detail seems to fall by the waste side. The site is all about context. This image bad, this image good. I try to show positive images in each conategory that are representative of the images that represent our community well in the world.

No one ever talks about these--in fact, I challenged one of my most vocal critics about this and he admitted, he had never noticed them.

I also have articles and essays, examine lyrics in our popular songs, have a Not Ghetto profile, feature articles that have ways for us to "Do Better" and a great message board which provides the platform for discussions on all types of topics from race to politics to sports to relationships.

So please, when discussing the site, please dont look at a couple of pics you got in an email and make a judgment. Go through the entire site. In order that we maintain academic integrity, please acknowledge that there is more to the site than just these pics.

You may not agree with me or my tactics in attempting to muster dialogue in our community but please dont misrepresent the site nor ignore the components that dont fit your argument.

But you guys are right about something, what started out as a subversive site started by a law student has grown into a monster and taken on a life of its own.

Its disconcerting to be theorized about, lied on, praised, fawned over, and villified all at the same time by a faceless "public".

Definitely more than I bargained for but I think now that we're here, the discussion is worth having.

Just wanted to add a couple of things I forgot to mention earlier. I have reached out to older Af-Am's who have been ensconced in the movement for change for advice and guidance. I was initially very conflicted about what I was doing. I was able to connect with Henry Louis Gates who gave me suggestions on how to make the site more effective (all of which i implemented) and he told me he believed the site could be a very powerful tool for change as the next "civil rights" movement will come from within the community.

So I welcome all comers who can advise me on promoting change from within as I am young and new and unfamiliar with the players and the bloggers and the BIFM's... :-)

Instead of offering solely criticisms or even congratulations--you see I have a platform, help me make the most of it and make it better.

Again, Thanks for having me...

Did I mention, I loooooooove black men. :-)

Wait a sec...i dont get it, doesnt the fact that I'm posting here so late speak to it NOT being a publicity stunt.

Can you stop screaming and accusing and being combative just long enough to have a semblance of an intellectual exchange with someone, especially another black woman who has never said an unkind word about you?

You? My nemesis? Dont kid yourself. I know you'd probably love to rise to that level but the truth is that you and your site will likely be forgotten in about a week and fade back into obscurity. While the show will continue (the original versions, hehehehe) and the site will continue to prosper.

See, the politics of protest becomes tiring when all you do is tear down everything else without contributing anything substantive to the discussion. How many show name changes will you inspire and how many shows will you protest and how many comedians will you villify before you go out and teach some "daughter" to read?

My nemesis? Dont flatter yourself. You dont compare. :-)

July 31, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterjam

Actually, I've taught many daughters to read. DO you think that the only community service I do is this blog? Maybe in your world, but not mine. Whining about assumptions being made while continuing to make them.

Actually, I heard that the ratings were not that great. Actually according to Reuters they were not good at all. But then again, your employer has really low standards.

So what if the ratings were great. NO SPONSORS purchased ADS! BET isn't in the RATINGS business, they are in the ad sales business.

DE-lusional.

July 31, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterg-e-m2001

Soooo... after everything i said, all you can do is debate me about what the ratings were? nothing about substantiating your accusations, or discussing my methods and goals and why you disagree? Nothing that could be construed as a real conversation between reasonable minds?

NOW you see why it took so long for me to come over here.

I wish you no ill will. Peace and good luck to you.

July 31, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterjam

YOU brought up ratings. Not me. Now you are ticked because, yet again, I point out your delusion?

Anytime you want to debate this, knock yourself out, but you are going to have a grownup present because I have to have parental permission to fight with a child.

Toodles!

If you're so unconcerned why write as whole blog about it? CLEARLY you are very interested in what Ms. Donaldson has to say or else you would not have done so. Even if you'd done it to show her writing to you the fact that you made a whole blog shows a marked interest in her. Or do you have so little to do in your spare time that you just write blogs about things you're "officialy bored" with?

July 31, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterbwp0485

Umm, I've been following this for a while and it seems to me the main issue people have with your website, JAM, is that there is no socio-political context to someone with missing teeth, old cornrows, or bad taste in clothes. Some of us just wish you would come out and say "I'm making fun of people because I think it's funny" and leave it at that. This whole "we got to do better" is something you've fooled yourself into believing in order to detract critics. Your site is not a public service and neither is your show. Ok, so you have examples of "NOT Ghetto Mess" on your site and trite letter from the Editor. And? Most people either see right through that or don't see it at all. You mean to tell me that the thousands of members that sign up for your site are there to start a revolution and be part of social change? No. They're there to point and laugh at people.

And it's okay to point and laugh. It's NOT okay to sit up here and act all high and mighty like you're doing any of us a favor, because you're not. Your site is content aggregated from other sources with absolutely no context, satire, intelligence or wit. And the saddest thing is, you come across as an intelligent woman with big ideas. Why waste it on this site and this show?

I think you need to change your mantra to "JAMEELA's Got to Do Better!"

July 31, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterrenaldo

First of all BWP, we haven't posted anything about THAT SHOW ( at least I haven't) since SUnday which was to say, "we're moving on."

Then all of a sudden, Jameela and her trolls ( that would be you) have attempted to push THAT show back to this blog's front page again.

The real question is that if we stopped talking about it, why the heck did Jameela come on THIS BLOG?

So get your facts straight. BTW, that Bronze Trinity Post is it as far as I am concerned. Now Jameela is just lashing out in an attempt to remain relevant.

We've move on. We won. She and BET lost. Just because you have not realized that does not make it untrue. So feel free to blow the comments thread up, I don't care.

Like I said on SUNDAY, this was so NOT about THAT SHOW and THAT website.

July 31, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterg-e-m2001

Once you get rid of ALL of the "negative images" and we are only able to write stories about strong, successful, ethical, articulate, well balanced African-Americans then what? What will happen to the "actualities" that is now socially wrong to represent?

Dear Ms. Donaldson:

Betrayal hurts more when it comes from a family member or close friend.

As a practicing Attorney, Wife, Mother and especially a Black Woman, I am deeply troubled by your comments.

You and I have been fortunate to obtain Juris Doctorate Degrees. The Bible tells us that, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask they will ask the more.” (Luke 12:48)

I think using your great legal mind to own and generate a website (and now produce a show) that exploits and degrades the less fortunate members of our community all in the name of “social commentary” is a travesty.

I am extremely disappointed to learn that so many BLACK ATTORNEYS are responsible for the promulgation of this type of programming. That is, programming that continuously shows Black people acting and behaving in an irresponsible and degrading manner.

In a nutshell, you and BET have GOT TO DO BETTER.

Sincerely,

Shwana Ruth-Bridges, Esq.

PS I did not appreciate you posting a picture of gay young man wearing a jacket belonging to my Sorority (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated). Skee Wee!!!

August 1, 2007 | Unregistered CommenterAttorneyMom

In the “In the Spirit” editorial page of the July 2007 edition of Essence Magazine, Susan L. Taylor wrote an apology to all the young people on the behalf of her generation, “for not governing the village more carefully, for not being more watchful over the influences we allowed into our children’s lives.”

Ms. Taylor went on to write about how she and Sean “Diddy” Combs gotten into a heated exchange about the state of the hip hop community. He told her that his generation (which includes me) feels abandoned by our elders. His generation was left to figure it for themselves.

With this as a backdrop, I sent a copy of my post to Jam Donaldson to let her know how I felt about “Hot Ghetto Mess.” She responded and thus we entered into a meaningful email exchange that forced me to open my heart and ears to her argument. At this point, I had not watched the show. I was still mad about her posting a picture of what seemed to be a homosexual young male wearing my Sorority’s jacket. (Of course, I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Skee Wee).

She asked me to watch and critique the show. I did.

We must admit that there is a strong disconnect between the elders and the younger generation. Our elders failed to pass the torch because they were too busy enjoying the trappings of success.

I have been socially caught in between two worlds. I am too ghetto for the burbs (short for suburb) and to burb for the ghetto. I am a first generation Attorney on both sides of my family. I can remember begging and praying for a mentor. To date, my prayers have not been answered.

I am letting my hands drop from my ears in an effort to get a deeper understanding of Miss Donaldson’s intention behind her website and the show.

In interim as I take this journey to understand the younger members of my generation, I want to apologize to Miss Donaldson for accusing her of exploiting the less fortunate members of the Black community.

I beseech my living elders to follow the dictates of Titus 2:3-5. Selah.

Seriously? If only you knew Jameela, there is no way that you could be this mean to her. I am really, really disapponted.

August 16, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterkokoesquire

We do KNOW Jameela. You can judge a tree by the fruit it bears. Jameela is humiliating poor people and making out of context conclusions about people based on a snap shot in time. I am sure many of her victims KNOW Jameela as well. SO I guess Jameela gets to crank out whatever she wants to in the world and everyone else has to shut up about it? I don't think so. If you are indeed a Lawyer, then you ought to be able to accept that someone else can have an opinion different than your own.

But anyway. We've moved on. i don't see you defending me when Jameela Libeled me on her myspace page. ANd you really need to stop reminding me that the woman exists until the statute of limitations runs out.

What is your problem? He wretched show is still airing, allbeit without the title to promote her horrid website. Move on. We have. She lost that battle. The end.

And why you can't see how condescending and mean spirited her comments are I will never know. You probably are Jameela.
