Church Buys 20 Billboards Denouncing Hip Hop Artists- "Stop Listening to Trash"

Y'all don't know how much THIS warms my heart. Thanks Bronze Trinity for the link. This week has been pretty heavy with the whole D-list comedians and R&B artists doing duets with alleged child predators, but Bronze Trinity brought it all back to center when she sent me that link

Starting today, twenty billboards will be going up throughout the city of Chicago denouncing artists that demean women and perpetuate violence. Some of the billboards are already posted.

Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of Saint Sabina church said, "If we are going to end the violence and the disrespect of women, we must fight every form of negativity, including the music industry."

The billboards read: "Stop Listening To Trash" naming ten present day disrespectful rappers.

Nah Right has more with some ironic commentary. Saint Sabina's website can be found here. Maybe we need to have a campaign to buy billboards? Stop listening to trash for REAL. We have got to stop funding the foolishness.

The story is also at SOHH .

I'm so glad every week I hear more news that this thing has not been forgotten. Oprah is re-runing the Town Hall episodes about Imus this Thursday and Friday too! Great news!!!! The pressure is still on!

I was coming over to this blog to leave you a FYI about this. I was totally stunned this morning to see that billboard this morning. Took a minute to compute the message of the billboard.

And, then I saw who paid for the billboard, and I swear, I immediately thought of this website and how much you all would love it.

I smiled at it. This is taking action.

Loved it.

I am telling you people aren't taking this laying down anymore. Calling out foolishness is the only way to counteract it.

Yall know me so well.

I want the three of Yall ont he Roundtable this week. If EVER there was a week to have Y'all on the panel, it's this week. What are the three of y'all doing this Saturday at noon?

This is Eddie Griffin giving you my wholehearted support in this campaign. Please keep us informed on D. L. Hughley's schedule and timeline for action. They are still buzzing in Fort Worth. Supposedly, NBC anchor Brian Williams will air from Fort Worth TONIGHT 5:30 p.m. This the same NBC affiliate of Channel 5 which featured the Hughley protest as Number One story on Saturday and Sunday. Please remind NBC Brian Williams of this national protest and campaign against indecency, and that we have international support. Leave a message on NBC Evening News blog at http://dailynightly.msnbc.com/

The information is up on my blog site. This is an ideal opportunity to go beyond D. L. Hughley and get NBC's attention to the real issue of sexist slurs and the double standard of tolerance. Thank you GEM2001 for involving us in this awesome campaign. NBC may not return to this city for a long time. But it comes at a time when the Hughley controversy is still brewing hot steam locally.

The Roundtable is the internet radio show. It would be noon CST. We normally have a topic and then I do a closing comentary. Last week was travel. two weeks before that it was health and fitness. This week I want to talk about the Hughley protest, the church billboards and the response from the blogging community in an after-imus environment. You would just call in to the show's call in number to participate. You don't have to go to any particular location. I call in from my cellphone. I am the host of the show. send me en email at whataboutourdaughters at gmail dot com for guest call-in instructions.
