I have learned so much since focusing on misogyny in music. Some pundits have asked where the outcry from the African American community prior to the Imus fiasco. People have been complaining for years to regulators and media companies, but mainstream media was not paying attention. That is why I created this site. To highlight the efforts combat the negative portrayal of African American women in popular culture.
Thursday, I stumbled on Industry Ears. They are all about action and have been monitoring the media for years. Industry Ears is a consortium of entertainment and broadcast industry professionals with more than 60 years of experience dedicated to revealing truth and promoting justice in media.

Good grief. You know what, the media isn't doing any research before they do stories. They do everything live. So instead of taking the time to research and present an informative piece with background, context, and varying news they just present a current event and opinion about things. The pundits assume because they haven't heard about something then it doesn't exist. I on the other hand assume that by the time I think of something, someone else already has or that when I don't know something about something then someone else probably does.
In the news today they are blending facts with opinion. If they don't personally know the historical context about something they assume that there is none. They are doing us a disservice.
One good outcome of this whole thing could be that some people wake up to the fact that the media is biased, they don't report everything, and that many important products are and have been going on in Black communities that the manistream does not know about.
I am telling you I learn something new every day. The next time mainstream media says black folk are up in arms about this issue, I can hold up my hand and say NO, I've been screaming about this for years. I have to add you comment from the last post about positive hip hop artists.
Thanks for posting my comment.
You know its the worst disservice ever to not know and claim that because you do not know something then there is nothing to know. I think there is a saying like it is one thing to not know something and realize it but it is even more dangerous to not realize you don't know something. When this is the case of people who are there to inform us then thats just terrifying! Are they trying to tell us that a blogger can spend a few seconds, google and issue and get information to disprove their claims and they couldn't spend some time to back up their stories in the same way? Bloody pitiful!
