AKON.... STILL CLUELESS

So apparently it is the club's fault that he thinks women are teflon blow up dolls that should be flung about.

First, and most important to me, I want to sincerely apologize for the
embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me
on-stage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert in
Port of Spain on April 12th.

It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of my fans in any way, especially those under the age of 18. That is why we tried to make sure that the club did not admit anyone under 18 in the audience. Somehow, that standard was not met.

Again, I apologize to those concerned and to all my fans and I pledge to all that we will strive to make sure this type of incident does not happen again."

From TMZ. UHG! he just doesn't get it. Even if she WAS over 18, a woman should not be treated and handled that way. Just. Ugh! Just. Just. UUUUGH! Standards? Akon has standards? The man who coined "Smack That" has standards. How about making sure you don't treat women like inanimate objects. I. AM. TOO. THROUGH.

I'm with you there, sister. Akon doesn't want to admit that having some more standards would have kep him from freak dancing and thus from being-justifiably-shamed in the mass media.

Akon clearly has never met Mr. Common Sense, who'd tell him that sometimes the problems you have are caused by YOU.

On that note, check out this e-mail I got:

This demonstrates the problem with allowing people like Akon and his enablers to drive popular culture. Do we really want people this morally deficient driving our images and culture.

Master P? Is he going to shut down his " dirty" label too? That is just what we need. To have them set up two different labels, one dirty and one clean.

I am just a bit confused. I thought the problem was that the young lady was a minor. this isn't his first concert or the first time they have done this on stage with other willing participants, and in fact this incident would not have been newsworthy if not for the fact that the girl was 14. To the extent that he was culpable for the her being in the club (not much) I would think his apology adequately addressed that. I was not aware that Akon was being vilified for simply the "freak-dancing". If that was a consenting adult individual on stage with Akon, would he still be clueless? Or are we expecting that he will change his way of thinking since he lost some money?

Please do not take this comment as some kind of apology or justification or approval of what happened. I think that there is no problem with some sexually expressive dancing, however there are people who go over the line I choose to draw. Akon's behavior crossed that line, and even if it was a consenting adult I would have said they went too far. But I wouldn't call for Akon's head or for him to be persecuted because of it. I don't think it's a good idea for us to make those types of moral judgments on other adults behavior that doesn't injure any innocent non-participants.

Akon deserves more respect. Everyone treats women that way. Sometimes people want to FUCK. Lol.
