2007 shall be known as the year Black folks called out other Black folks publicly and the community lived to tell about it. Folks are planning to get down right indignant, as we all should be, when R. Kelly performs in concert at a church in Los Angeles, CA on Friday. Okay well technically, the church owns The Forum where the concert is taking place
Isn't Rev. Ulmer the same preacher from that dreadful piece of anti single Black woman propaganda "Soulmates"?
I think the protesters have a point. What would Jesus do?

The Forum -- located in Inglewood, CA -- former home of the Los Angeles Lakers, is owned by Faithful Central Church, pastored by Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer. Eurweb

How can the church allow R. Kelly to perform on Friday night, have service on Sunday morning and believe all is well?" Ali continues. "The message the church is sending to young children is that money is more important than taking a stand in support of victims who have been victimized by R. Kelly and other child molesters." SOURCE

I have been wondering why R. Kelly hasn't been locked up already for what he did. It is truly disgusting and utterly amazing that people love and support him anyway.
Some years back when this video first surfaced, I was watching the local news and they asked this one young black woman inthe NYC how she felt about the R. Kelly allegations. She said that she didn't care WHAT he did that she loved him anyway.
I shook my head at that. Why do we as black folks support the biggest idiots in our race, yet the Hatian mom and her son in the Dunbar Village massacre are left to fend for themselves??
I am truly disgusted.
P.S. Thanks for your blogs!! It's always refreshing to read common sense!
"Why do we as black folks support the biggest idiots in our race," - katrina.
I've been asking that same question for years. To put it frankly, we love every piece of sh#t with Blk skin no matter what.
We don't demand better & that's why Chester the Molester is lauded the way he is.
Forget the preacher... is anyone rallying the congregation around this? I find it hard to believe that everyone sitting in the pews isn't at all affected by this.
Get them to protest too.
Hopefully we all will let our wallets do the talking and not sponser any of R Kelly's garbage...A step in the right direction!

Not like anything after "I believe I can fly" was worth buying anyway... :D
Well, it's about time! I've been waiting for some sort of public response to R. Kelly's ignorance since the whole drama started.
I continue to be appalled that the backlash is not widespread in the black community. Heck, on the contrary, it seems to be a small group of black people who share my view that R-uh, his music and his behavior are abhorent. No one even blinked an eye when Kelly was indicted and people actually seemed moved by his post-scandal pandering to religious black folks. "Heaven, I need a hug"... Please!
I've given up trying to talk sense to a certain segment of the black populace. Our only hope at this point is to pressure those in power to act in the best interests of the black community, whether our own people want it or not.
If that girl's family was paid off by R-Kelly in order to keep her from testifying, then the child should have been removed from the home and put into protective custody. The parents should have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and obstruction of justice.
I couldn't believe it when my neice's school had youngsters singing 'I believe I can fly' at their spring concert. My sister spoke to the teacher and she was positively horrified and claimed not to have known about it.
Her goal was to do popular songs from each genre, and that was the R&B choice. She asked, 'how can his song be #1 on the charts, if he has done to someone in his own community?'
@Shecodes: Maybe "Ain't Nobody Worryin'" by Anthony Hamilton might have been a better pick... :D
No one has noticed the fact that this pastor is doing this to make some money.... I guess he is not at all about uplifting the community as much as he is about lining his own pockets.
Y'all don't know the half of it. I live in L.A. and use to work with mega churches. The Forum is managed by SMG - Staples Management Group - that owns the Staples Arena in downtown L.A.
Let it put it this way. The church doesn't have as much as a say as you probably think. Note that these venues are all about making money.
There's so much more to this, but it's way to deep to get under. And there comes a time there's just stuff you don't want to know about.
If he had touched ONE White girl, he'd be under the jail. But, he knew who to attack. He knew who was nonvalued in this society. That I hear the ' well, that's his personal business' bull($* all the time as an excuse as to why folks are putting money in this pedophile's pocket. It disgusts me.
Protest Kelly? Hmmm. I am all for that, but unsure of the result. Perhaps we need to protest the stations that continue to play his music...
dont be selective...if you against R. Kelly be against R. Kelly not the church...be against the record stores that sell his stuff...be against the radio stations that play it...be against KEYSHIA COLE for going on tour with a pedophile....naw yall wont do that. youll watch Keyisha show... listen to R. Kelly songs dance to him in the club...and now bcz theres media attention folks wanna get back on the attention bus....pssshhh dont knock the church...the church isnt supposed to turn anyone away....so be mad at the church only...you cant pick n choose who youre gonna protest. if its ultimately against R KELLY...protest HIM...protest THE RADIO STATIONS GIVIN OUT FREE TICKETS...protest it all, not the church...bcz when you selectively complain youre judging andwe know we not supposed to do that...
dont see yall in front of the Catholic churches and that happens ON A CHURCH DAY IN THE CHURCH...
Thomas, you must be very new here... because you have clearly not read the past posts and comments that criticize Keishia Cole, R Kelly, the Hip hop industrial complex, or the radio stations.
Nobody who who assaults the dignity or safety of black women is safe here. Not R Kelly, not the record stores, not Keisha Cole, not the church, and certainly not you.
Gina, since Ike Turner has transitioned this week (God rest his soul), can you come up with a new term to describe your "hate??." LOL
Um no Attorney mom. I don't hate anyone. IIT is accurate. You say Ike turner and one thing springs to mind...Whats love got to do with it.
Here at WAOD we are uncompromising, unappologetic, and unbowed.
The truth is men get a pass for this type of behavior all the time. Look at Woody Allen? People still support and respect him. For some reason we've convinced ourselves that men are unable to control their sexual urges and when a teenage girl is violated it's either because she was "too grown" or "had abesntee parents". It's somehow never the mans fault.
And yes, if that was a white girl in that video, he would've been underneath the jail by now.
i am new to this blog, but have been reading for awhile. i remember when Kelly got arrested in Lafayette, La. for fighting at Red Larel's and a young lady made the statement that she would always love him no matter what. But this girl was a teenager, so some of that is exusable. But i've heard grown folks justify and even defend Kelly's actions. We need to start holding people in our communities accountable for the things that they do.
