Master P Video Depicts Klansmen Playing Basketball and Sipping 40s: You say what?

Master P, you know the one dedicated to making "clean music" well he has a new video out called"Gutta Time." Well it depicts KKK members behaving like members of the Hip Hop Industrial Complex.

Warning, the introduction to this video contains profanity, but that is only the beginning:

I have to let this one marinate. My first observation however, is if you have to issue repeated disclaimers that something is satire, IT AIN'T! But this is one of those "sleep on it" moments, but I wanted to share it with y'all.

What's the problem? I get it.

Sorry, couldn't make it all the way through the video. Garbage is garbage no matter what the race...

Blessings,

This "whole thing" should be compressed into a tiny little ball and flushed down the toilet. What a waste of precious time.

Surely there is a forthcoming explanation.

Master P still makes records?

I don't understand the video.

The problem with satire is that the ignorant who walk among us don't realize that it is. Remember the "All in the Family" tv show with the Archie Bunker character and the continued discourse he'd have with George Jefferson? I watched something on PBS once about how in the 70's, many tv shows tried to poke fun at racism and separatism in America but it backfired because what it did was make people think that this is how black AND white folks really think. It became a big joke but it really wasn't funny at all. Gives you an idea of just how powerful the messages are of the MSM.

I never liked Master P anyway.

ROFL. I haven't seen the video yet, the link says the video is now unavailable.

I watched the video last night & came to the conclusion that he was making fun of Hip Hop's purported stereotypes of Black folks.

Basically, if it's not acceptable for bigots to act as caricatures of Blk folks, why is it acceptable for Blk folks to act as such?

you are wrong that "if you have to ask if it's satire, it's NOT". look at all the mainstream media that run stories from The Onion thinking that the stories are genuine.

December 11, 2007 | Unregistered Commenterwerouious

werouious,

Can you give examples of this rash of mainstream media stories that use 'the Onion' as a source?

I am in complete agreement -- if you have to repeatedly say that your art is a satire, then you have fundamentally failed in the proper execution of a satire. Yes, not everyone 'gets' satire... but if NOBODY gets it (or, more specifically, if your target audience doesn't get it) then it is a failure at best.

I think this is the same problem Dave Chappelle had. 1st Season was great satire. Second season was just people laughing at black folks. I think part of what made Dave crazy was that no one got his satire the second time around
