Hat tip to CW who just relaunched Black Women Deserve Better. Black women can you feel that? That is the sound of Harriet Tubman, Barbara Jordan, and Shirley Chisholm tap dancing for joy that our generation of Black women might have finally gotten a freaking clue! All around the blogosphere I see Black women evolving and expanding their platforms. Taking dead aim at traditional media and the THOUGHT PRISONS that are holding us back. The push back against the War on Black Women is coming on many fronts from many directions as it should. I’m so excited that Kadija has written The Sojourner’s Passport don’t know what it says, but am excited that she went through the process. Because once one or two of us figure something out, we have the wisdom and the knowledge to share with others.
As far as my own progress, I’m still getting certified on all of the equipment and studios, for example last Saturday I took the audio class. Next up is the camera and mini studio and then main studio. As far as Couch to 5K, this week we’re up to running 3 minutes in a row before walking and I did it… and I didn’t die!
I want this blog audience to be producing an avalanche of content in all of its various forms. I can’t wait for one of you to send me your sitcom. The landscape is wide open for quality content and it ain’t gonna come from ESSENCE or BET. They have a vested interest in making sure certain portions of Black American become brain dead. Get ta’ steppin’ ! Onward and upward!

I know the book will be excellent as it seems she does not settle for less than. I am SO excited about the work all these wonderful women are doing. Most of my Sojourning is occurring offline but I am so happy that the internet is full of voices finally telling it like it is. I don’t feel so crazy anymore!

Actually I have been pretty consistent of my criticism of Beyonce and her drug dealing husband. IN fact I think Sasha Fierce is some of the most damaging psychological warfare ever PRODUCED by another Black woman. SHe’s basically saying that she is so terrified of claiming an overly sexualized imaged that she has to create a alter ego. For goodness sakes, this woman did a LAP DANCE at an awards show. Hey do your lap dance, but CLAIM IT!
The idea that she will be in 60 minutes when they could put Corrine Bailey Rae or any number of other Black woman who don’t send a message that independent women need to cater to their men. Likewise, if Beyonce WAS dark skinned like say, Lil Kim or was shaped like Trina, you wouldn’t be riding her jock, you’d have dismissed her as a “HO” – GO READ MY ARCHIVES!
In the real world, Little Black girls don’t get the benefit of creating an alter ego to make them palatable.

Honestly, it’s not that serious. You are over analyzing the whole issue. I am normally a mellow and quiet person. However, when I step on stage to do plays and dance performances I become bold and fearless. My stage persona and my real life personality are completely different. If you had ever been involved in school plays and stage musicals you would know this. As I said, it’s not that serious. You are over intellectualizing the matter and blowing it up to epic proportions.
I also don’t get the whole light skin thing. Let’s crucify Beyonce because she has fair skin. So what if she dresses sexy? does that mean she is not accomplished. She sells out shows worldwide, has an amazing voice and is a successful businesswoman. Why shouldn’t 60/60 do a special about her?
And what makes you think that Corinne Bailey Rae is a better person than Beyonce? because she sings indie music has natural hair and appears to be demure??

I get so annoyed at the troll-like behavior of 1)deliberately going off-topic 2) changing the subject 3) petty personal attacks and 4) rehashing old arguments from previous discussions. It is a shame that we can’t even have a thread celebrating Khadija’s book without this nonsense.
Anyway, getting BACK on topic, I plan on ordering the book and can’t wait to read it. Its about time someone wrote about BW issues in a mature, focused, non-condescending non-stereotypical way.
