Gem2001,
Do you also notice the REASON given, for why the “booty wall” becomes an accepted practice?
“The black male students at Howard are already outnumbered and can have literally two or three actual GIRLFRIENDS at a time. The gender dynamics on that campus (and at most HBCUs) leave the girls seeking attention from men OFF campus and those men tend to be unemployed or underemployed, no ambition, playas, etc. All looking to hook up with a striving young black woman in the hopes of meeting even more striving young black women.”
Then:
“SO many of the problems in the BC stem from too many women and too few men after the age of say 20.”

Thank you “reese”, you nailed it. At least the self-restricting/self-destructive part.

Yep, that “Nothin’ but a Brutha” sure helps out the individual A/A woman in her life, doesn’t it now.
Geez, sticking to that dwindling and ever increasingly toxic pool will be the death, literal and otherwise, of so many A/A women now.

I attend CSUDH, before CSUDH I attended Mount Saint Mary's College, before that El Camino College. I've never heard of the "booty wall"; but just to prove the coochie hounds are right, I'll double check to see if the "booty wall" exist.

Dear Mr. Moss,

Obviously the obvious eludes you. No one with a functioning brain and reading comprehension skills believes that the little ingrate Omari Evans should, would or could be expelled from Howard University. The post was clearly directed at the woman who sent me this ridiculous email. If you noticed the post is entitled the WORST ACTIVISM EVER. One with a brain functioning with some modicum of higher thinking skills could conclude that a woman who can't even draft a coherent email could hardly get Mr Evan's expelled, not did she indicate any willingness to see him punished.

If you were familiar with this blog, you know I have absolutely NO CONFIDENCE that an institution such as Howard University would ever take any strong action to PUNISH students that objectify women. As your self-promoting comment so clearly indicates, the Black Elite Establishment and its institutions are far to quick to cover up, gloss over, marginalize and dismiss the objectification of Black women and girls, violence against Black women and girls, including the tortures rapes and killings of Black women and Girls.

But it is nice to know where HBCU Connect's PRIORITIES ARE. You are the clearest indication that the Black communities institutions are SWIFT to come to the defense of any male who my theoretically be in peril while turning a blind eye to Black women and girls who are actually in peril.

Thank you for offering unimpeachable evidence of what we've been saying. By all means PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE hire Omari Evans. I beg you to, and send us a link when he comes on board. We'll do some free promotion for you.

Readers,
Have you noticed the people rushing here to SAVE Omari Evans from a RHETORICAL QUESTION? DO you notice how Daniel C. Moss the President of HBCU Connect has dedicated himself to minimizing the objectification and degradation of Black women and girls by saying "it happens everywhere." Can you imagine him minimizing the murders and incarcerations of BLACK MEN by saying "it happens everywhere"? Of course he wouldn't.

It's crazy to think that expulsion could be mentioned as a fair recourse on a topic like this. Schools have made attempts at tempering the tongue of their "rogue" student journalists since the first college newspaper rolled off of the press.
It might be more strategic to make an attempt to understand Mr. Evan's original intent in writing the "Booty Call" article instead of punishing him for taking a (PERHAPS) less than tactful approach to the topic. The verbage used to describe a location that nearly all campuses have was surely lost on older generations, however the audience the commentary was likely intended for surely picked up on the satirical tone.
While the fact that women everywhere are disproportionately objectified compared to their male counterparts requires serious examination, we should hardly hold Mr. Evans to the task of approaching every subject with Dan Rather-like seriousness. Mr. Evans is a very talented writer and if Howard makes the mistake of giving him "the boot". You can bet, he'll be writing for us the very next week!

I appreciated this posting because it demonstrated how misdirected some Black people who run Black media trying to pick a social cause fight really are.

Why did this lady sent out a PR Blast trying to attack Omari Evans for posting what he observed as campus culture? It appears to me she is more mad at seeing the bones she knew about fall out the closet and knowing Omari opened the door..as if Larry Libido never knew about the "Booty Wall" in the first place...

This whole topic about a "Booty Wall" on Howard is kinda naive - there are so called "Booty Walls" all over college campuses and around the world from females sitting on the sideline at the pickup basketball/soccer game to the corporate workplace where there is a sitting break area. For people at Howard to think their "Booty Wall" is unique and special is clearly naive to the rest of the world.

No comment about the larger issue. But I am with you on the "females" thing.

For the record, people, female is an ADJECTIVE and not a noun. Therefore, it should only be used to define a noun. When my students say, "A female just walked past," I say, "A female what? Human? Horse? Dinosaur?"

Language deserves respect.

To keep us on track, let me redirect y'all back ffrom condemning HBCUs for some kind of monopoly on objectifying and dehumanizing Black women. Its a trap I don't want you to fall into.

I went to two PWIs. One public for undergrad and one private for professional school. We had common gathering places as well on campus, we just weren't so ig'nant as to refer to them as a booty wall. TRUST that massive objectification took place.

@tusk actually White people would LOVE for us to have this dialog at a PWI. They'd probably give us lots of money to do it. Black folks talking about oppression within the group? PLUUUEEZ, I could probably fund an ENTIRE series on at a PWI. No questions asked. They probably wouldn't attend, but they'd definitely fund the honorariums and snacks.

"The school seems to have outlived it’s usefulness. It seems to be more of danger than a help."

- I may be and old fogie myself and it has been some time since I have attended an HBCU. Sadly, I also know that the objectifying of woman, of black woman takes place on many college campus white and black.

I do get sick of statements and conclusions from those who never attended an HBCU, or who never participated or benefited from any "black institution" of any type informing folks that "those institutions have out lived there usefulness."

The good news is that as long as Howard Univ. is still producing Dr's, Lawyers, Business grads, Engineers and Scientist like every other fine white institution then it along with other HBCU's are here to stay!!!

Another point I would make is I am sure that this whole dialog would be very welcome and is probably taking place on the campus of Howard since this article has been published.

Try that kind of open dialog at one of those fine non isolated white institutions and all you will hear is "why do just the blacks students get to have open dialogs, on the objectifying of black woman", and "why do they have there own month, and why is there an Ebony magazine" and so on and so on.
