And I Bid You Adieu

Posted by Faith of Acts of Faith In Love and Life blog

Thank you Gina and WOAD readership. Guest-blogging here has been an experience that I’ve yet to unpack. I have learned a lot and being challenged at holding certain principles was the only way to know for sure I was willing to maintain them.

I think I was able to add a certain dimension and unique perspective as a contributor. I will happily return to participant status. I appreciated the opportunity to address a larger blog audience and hope others are able to gain new insights that will benefit them.

Yes – my focus was on challenging the status quo, identifying allies, accountability and other steps that would assist the necessary mindset reorder that will help black women and girls. It is one that I – as are many others – working through as we speak. With all due respect to those that took issue with how I managed the comment threads it was not my goal to become everyone’s best friend or allow dissenters to have free reign to add to the confusion many of us are working through. Putting pen to paper fingers to keyboard was a great way to suss things out.

This battle for our very lives is being waged and many are asleep at the wheel – or about to drive off a cliff!!

We will need to be even more diligent at identifying escape routes, outright enemies and fence-sitters who could block our paths. We don’t know who our real allies are until they’ve been tested.

This is not the time for hand-holding, coddling, obfuscation or allowing further confusion, denial and deflection to take over.

My goal was to share some of the things I’ve learned and get people out of their comfort zones. We have a closing window of opportunity to secure our health and well-being, build alliances and get rid of disordered thinking. The ones who will be victorious are those that seek to save themselves and align themselves with other like-minded individuals.

Onward and upward!!

unfortunately, i think friday’s discussion was handled very immaturely. instead of allowing room for intelligent discourse, you rejected any and all opinions that did not match up with your own. oddly enough, you either accused people of forcing their opinion as fact or accused people of not offering sound advice when you were guilty of that same offense. i thought your handling of many of the blog visitors was rude. this is exactly why our community has difficulty in participating in these topics, because individuals resort to anger rather than addressing what they’re really angry about. blogs are a wonderful platform for discussion of opinions, and a moderator should make sure that there’s room for dialogue without attacking individuals who choose to contribute.

@the truth

You nailed Faith’s actions on the blog perfectly.

Deleting hateful slurs directed at a poster is perfectly fine and just.

However, it’s wrong to delete comments simply because you disagree with them. Such suppression of free speech has been employed by various evil men throughout the centuries: gangsta rappers, terrorists (e.g., KKK), bloodthirsty dictators, wifebeaters, etc.

Put more bluntly Faith’s reign on WAOD was more about tyranny than liberty. And the blog lost some of its appeal as a result.

@thetruth @fred The two of you (and a few others) were some of the would-be Internet Ike Turners who want to push your Taliban-like agendas into the conversation. This isn’t and was never about you. How old are you anyway? This isn’t grade school. I expect adults to show up and have a mature conversation about the subject at hand. This is not about pushing your marriage, anti-choice or blame the black woman as the sole source of pathology agenda.

This is to challenge stale, dangerous and out-dated thinking that is supposed to uplift and benefit women. You either support that or you don’t. You are an ally or an enemy. There is no in-between. You complain but you kept coming back and commenting! I’m not your mother and you won’t be getting a lollipop or pat on the head.

I’m personally glad that you took issue with my policing your behavior because you were out of line. I gave you numerous opportunities to silently participate and you insisted on forcing your personal agendas as the ONLY agendas. If this was my blog I would have banned you as some others have been. If you continue to be destructive and obstruct the progress of those that seek sanctuary here I’m certain you will be.
