Every time I do a “Detroit” post, I lose readers 
How do I know? Because they take the time to email me to say they are NEVER reading this blog EVER AGAIN! EVER! Because I have repeatedly pointed out that the voting populace is glutton for punishment. They keep electing embarrassments like Kwame Kilpatrick and then get mad when I point out, they ought to be embarrassed.Well prepare to stop reading this blog again, because our second most favorite Detroit politician, second only to Mama Kilpatrick, is in the news AGAIN. I’m shocked. In fact some readers tried to clown me last week about not posting this as soon as I learned about it. I’m still recovering from BWB and was out of town.
As you know, THIS BLOG was the first to offer up an unsolicited endorsement of Detroit Councilwoman, Monica Conyers to be Mayor.
We even printed up these nifty Monica Conyer’s t-shirts.
Quite frankly after reelecting Kwame “textual healing” Kilpatrick we think MOCO, our affectionate name for Monica Conyers is the leadership Detroit deserves, not to mention that she’s a boatload of trainwrecky goodness that bloggers LOVE. LOVE. LOVE!!
I mean she got clowned by an 8th grader after she referred to the Detroit Council President, Ken Cockrel as “Shrek.”
While her description of Cockrell might have been dead on, it was not something one would expect from a sitting councilwoman. MoCo got into at a hotel in Denver during the Democratic National Convention. She’s allegedly been in bar fights, threatened to shoot someone and threatened to have someone killed. She’s fought LOUDLY with other council members and mayoral staffers and generally been an undignified MESS, yet none of this placed her political future in jeopardy because this is DETROIT!
From tawdry text messages and a mayor resigning in disgrace to the 0-16 Detroit Lions and the collapse of the auto industry, it had been a tough year for Detroit’s image even before Friday. So tough, in fact, that the corruption plea by Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Monica Conyers was met by some with a shrug. For scandal-weary Detroit, where residents are becoming inoculated to the jokes of late-night comedians and the scoldings of Washington politicians, Conyers’ plea was just a “part of a long line of abominations,” said Michael Bernacchi, professor of marketing at the University of Detroit-Mercy. “We’ve been in a cesspool for so long, laden with so much bad imagery, this doesn’t change the image.” Freep
The only way to get rid of a political leader with no discernible leadership qualities other than the ability to get elected is to have them plead guilty to a FELONY and have the prosecutor demand that they resign. Oh did I mention that she hasn’t resigned and it is unlikely that the citizens of Detroit will force her to resign.
Conyers has now admitted to taking a paltry $6,000 in bribes in connection with a $1.2 billion sludge contract. She faces five years in prison, which should leave her with plenty of time to draw up those bras. But I’m going to miss her in public life. She is an enigma wrapped up in a Sam Riddle.
When the spotlight is elsewhere, Conyers can be a bright, intelligent, well-spoken woman. But when the camera is trained on her — and Conyers can’t resist a camera — her personality veers toward the erratic and infantile. Freep
On a serious note. When will out politicians stop selling their freedom for a two piece and a biscuit? $6,000?? $6,000??? Are you serious? $6,000??? If you are going to risk your liberty and your political future, can it be for six figures instead of 5? Why sell yourself and your community so short. If you are going to be corrupt go ALL THE WAY like Blago! Two payments of $3,000 on a billion dollar contract? Definitely a two piece and a biscuit alert.

How many generations in Sinai do we as a people have spend, additionally, before we get the message that politicians like her and Kwame…and Kwame’s momma…are manipulative fools, are corrupt, dictatorial, enriching only their cronys and hanger’s on? Are we that stupid? Recall the Corey Booker-Sharpe James contests in Newark? Corey was the anti Christ if you listened to the retarded bammas who exhaulted James whilst their city wallowed in despair.
In DC, we are slowly breaking down the edifice of Marian Barry and exposing his mythology, the way the Russian people did Lenin and Iraqis Saddam Hussien. We have no statutes to pull down literally. Detroit, if it’s going to survive, needs an exorcism, and the will to start over. Having the balls to repudiate these fools is a good start!

I saw this story and posted it on FB. I just saw the news that she resigned as council president. I wonder of she was aware that she could get jail time over this? The judge she copped a guilty plea to is known for being pretty harsh when it comes to sentencing.

as a former Detroit resident, I must say I was completely willing to give Kwame a shot when he first came into office. I’m a young, black, male and just hearing of another brother who finished law school from a city where a majority of men never think about college, let alone get an undergraduate degree was good to me.
But, he cost the city a lot of money. A lot of jobs. A lot of connections.
And then come Monica Conyers. I didn’t believe she was an AKA at first. She has game. She got her super old husband to marry her. She got the city go keep electing her, but wait….of course they like her…..
ghetto people like ghetto elected officials. They’ll support her to the death. Although she could care less about them, they don’t see that, they just see it as “us against them”…….as if black people don’t do more harm to eachother than whites.
Ah well, Detroit won’t be on point until they clean out the citizens who elect these fools.

The ones in detroit arent’ that different than anywhere ele. Old boy in South Carolina thought it was a good idea to go to Argentina for a week to be with hi lady friend…and didnt think anybody would notice.
I don’t expect “our” politicians to be any different than “theirs.” The thing with Detroit is that since the city is in such shambles the barrier of entry in low for the politicians.
You could put a white guy in charge and you’d have the smae issues. Detroit needs to be bull dozed, turned into a park and all it’ citizenry relocated.
Jut a suggestion
It has been widely reported (you can google it) that the adult literacy rate for Detroit is less than 50%. The high school dropout rate in recent years has been at least 50% (of beginning 9th graders who do not complete high school within 4 years). Some of these students moved away from the city, but many others just stopped attending school.
As long as these numbers are correct, people like Conyers will keep getting elected.
The lack of literacy should be a high priority civil rights/social justice issue. Without literacy, progress really isn’t possible.

That you tube video reminded me of something I once saw in a video of the British Parliament, apparently there they really do tell each other off. I remember a man screaming, “Shut up you stupid woman!” I also saw a fist fight in another colony of the UK.
I just read a story about John Conyers being visibly shaken by his wife’s conviction. I had no idea he was 80 years old!!!
Something in the milk of that marriage ain’t cean or Conyers is a total stud. Either way, I just think its kinda gross to be married to someone old enough to be your middle aged parent.

Actually, Barry will likely have more years ahead of him despite his scandalous past. This is because, unlike his more “polished” Black peers, Barry has a better read of DC’s pulse.
For example, from day one, Barry has supported school choice for DC residents. His position echoes those of poor Black residents who are realizing that charter schools improve their children’s performance. By contrast, current mayor Adrian Fenty clearly believes only really rich Black people like himself have the right to send their kids to charter schools. Poor and middle class black kids should be cast into the cesspoll of DC public schools.

Another example is the DC City Council voting to recognize out-of-state homosexual “marriages.” The lone dissenting vote was Barry, who argued that voters weren’t allow a voice before the vote. Besides, domestic partnerships give DC homosexual couples the same benefits as married couples. So, homosexual “marriage” in DC is redundant.
Naturally, Barry has gotten a need lease on life for bucking the Council. His popularity as a rebel is likely to increase as the local government tries to block a vote on marriage to appease homosexual activists:

Even if you live in Washington, DC, you clearly have no idea what it is that you are talking about. Do some work and just some perfunctory research and you’d understand that DC Charter schools are MUCH worse than DCPS. The governing board is inherently corrupt and the director left after several independent investigations determined that a gross misappropriation of funds and embezzlement had taken place. In addition, DC PCS employ teachers who have not finished college, hold no certification, and were terminated from DCPS and other school districts in the mtro area for poor performance.
I would love to see the entire PCS sytem in DC stripped of its funding and completely revamped. While I am no fan of Fenty, he has been on point with trying to fix DCPS and DCPCS. The other thing is that when the council is up for re-election keep in mind that Marion Barry will be re-elected because most of Ward 8 is a hell-hole. Ward 8 HAS THE HIGHEST RATES OF EVERYTHING BAD. From AIDS to poor education, from crime and drugs to abject poverty and homelessness, to unemployement and illegitimacy, you’ll find it there. The reason he keeps getting reelected is because his constituents see him as their proverbial reparations check. They lack education, are completely ingorant of the issues affecting their ward and lack the ability to understand that crack smoking Barry is past his prime. He did NOTHING for them as mayor and continues to do nothing for them as a council person.
That has NOTHING to do with what Gina posted in this article. For you to hold Marion Barry and the folks who support his foolishness demonstartes how ignorant you and they are. The only people advocating for DC to overturn its law recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states where such marriages are legal are NOT from DC. They are from MD and surrounding states.
So while you cite articles from clearly biased christian sources (puproting to be legitimate media), you also confirm what I have always suspected of black people who attend church. Your faith is symbolic only. How can any social conservative hold a man like Barry up as a paragon of virtue and a proponent for heterosexual marriage? If you consider the dishonest and fraudulent actions of Harry Jackson, the ring leader of the anti-same-sex marriage “movement” in DC, you’d realize that he is yet another person who you shouldn’t support. However you delusion of moral superiority largely based on your skewed beliefe system ignores all of this. Marion Barry’s reputation is that he was a philandering, womanizing, adulterous, crack-smoking corrupt politician. Is that the kind of leader you admire?
One more thing; like our nation DC’s local government is an indirect democratic republic. Such a legislative arrangement is necessary to safeguard the rights of the minority, particularly when the majority is dead wrong.

Most Blacks still don’t realize that the margin for error is razor thin….and that Whites still regard Blacks as one singular entity that lives and dies by the actions of a few. So when a few of these fools act silly, it reflects badly on the Black population on a whole, whether they like it or not.

First, I was born in Washington, DC and have lived here my whole life. Thus, I have a deeper understanding of the culture and politics than an outsider looking in.
Second, I don’t agree with Barry on a lot of issues. But as the saying goes, a broken clock is right twice a day.
*Barry is right that growing numbers of Black people view DC public schools as a cesspool that overall discourages real education and teacher excellence. As DC native, I can attest that they are THAT bad. So, I’m not shocked that people like my friend (a Black liberal Christian Democrat) wants her son to attend charter school.
Sidenote: where’s your proof that charter schools are so lousy?
*Barry’s also right that many Black Democrats in DC don’t want thrilled with marriage being redefined every which way. All the issues in DC (crime, poverty, out-of-wedlock births, HIV, etc.) are due to breakdown of the Black family and thus personal responsibility. So, what rational Black person would support homosexual “marriage,” which would create another generation of fatherless kids destined to appear in WAOD’s horror stories?
So, while Barry is far from a saint, he does have a better feel for DC’s pulse in terms of school choice and marriage. His more polished successor, Adrian Fenty, doesn’t.

The Ward 8 Democrat caucus meeting was poorly promoted so the straw poll would have a low turnout. So, most of the people voting were White homosexual activists, who naturally support redefining marriage:
