First “Bust It Baby” Now “Goonette”- Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, and Rosa Parks Weep in Unison

SO last year one of you wrote me to complain about a casting call for a reality television series called “Bust it Baby” put on by an artist that I will not name:

I’m writing to you because I came across a disturbing video on youtube yesterday. Plies casting special for Bust it Baby showcases black women doing anything to get on this reality show.
Oh my god. I stopped towards the end when the panalyst were asking about swinging, but then I decided to bite the bullet and continue on with the video. I nearly cried towards the end, especially when they were asking what looked like an intelligent black woman a slew of inane, and profane questions. It really did look as if they were like “dance monkeys dance for the camera!”. WAOD Reader

Well you should be relieved that “Bust it Baby” apparently was not picked up. But that didn’t stop this attention seeking “artist” of dubious talent. Oh no, he’s back with something called “Goonette”
This is not safe for work in fact the second half of the video will make some of you weep.

One day there will be a Black woman that will rise from the ashes of cultural decay and lead a rebellion her battle cry shall be “Remember Goonette!” Her enemies shall beg for leniency, but she will not grant them mercy for she shall remember the days of “Goonette.” She shall smite foolishness to her left. She shall smite chicanery to her right. She shall smite by day and smite by night and when begged for a reprieve from her smiting, she shall bellow “Remember Goonette!” It hath been foretold.

I hear from our so-called leaders that we have such domestic and international turmoil that they can’t comment on “small” matters of culture and taste like this. But they have have even in “good” times. They don’t want to shame anyone b/c they feel there’s some majority of fools who won’t support them if they pull a Bill Cosby and call out our collective ignorance and sexism. Then you have so-called public intellectuals who consider this legitimate expression–even empowering lol.
The worst hypocrites are folk who know better but watch or buy this crap the way they do Real Housewives of AtL: “Well, it’s just escapist entertainment. No harm.”
They are the worst.

A friend of mine sent me this video yesterday. I was seriously disturbed upon viewing it. To think that this is going to be a television program is really sad.

The first line of attack upon the Black collective is clearly the Black woman. This is one of the reasons I love and appreciate what you do with your site.

When are Black women going to wake up to this sad reality and do something about this sort of thing? Surely I know almost every economic industry is male dominated. I just wish there were an extreme movement of Black women to speak out against this sort of thing.

If this sort of movement already exists and I am not aware, I offer my sincerest apologies.

Plies, Plies, Plies….

Here’s the thing with this guy. A good chunk of guys can’t stand the guy because he makes “sappy” music. Whatever, I think his music sucks but anyway…

The women LOVE him. Mostly AA women, but WW love him too. So then I have to ask myself, who is really keeping this guy afloat?

His songs tend to gravitate towards a female audience. Most of his hits have been geared towards women. So is it really fair to put this on men, or should women take responsibility for this one? Mind you, men didn’t turn out for the Bust It Baby auditions and this show is not about goons. He went for a female demographic both times because he knew he’d strike gold.

*SMDH* And the woman sounds relatively articulate. She’s pretty as well. It’s a shame that her kids have to see this.

I wasn’t sure if I should have laughed or cried after watching such bs.

But to answer someone’s question, yes, we do have a national and international movement against violence against women, porn, etc., but when we do our thing, some folks (including some women, sadly) call us “man-haters”, “ball-bashers”, “feminists”, oh and yes, the best (or worse) of all, “them dyke-a$% feminists.” Unfortunately, some of our sisters get intimidated and back down when that kind of name-calling starts.

Well well well,

It looks like the NAACP is supporting another black woman hating misogynist and alleged murderer:

http://coreymillerinnocencefund.com/

He is asking for black folks to pony up $1,000 (LMAO) to help pay his legal bills.

His stage name is C-Murder and he beat and shot a 16 year old fan back in 2003 (allegedly!!!).

So I don’t see most of the community getting up in arms about “bust it babys” or “goonettes”. They are too busy trying to help a murderer go free so he can return to promoting records about prostitution, drug-selling and violence.

And not to be all superficial, but Piles or whatever is oooo-glay.

Well the black woman leading the rebellion is gonna be smiting the hell out of other black women. Plies may be an ignorant fool, but he is NOT forcing those black women to disgrace and humiliate themselves. This “goonette” saw nothing wrong with being seen as a side-show freak. Clearly there is a serious lack of self-respect among black women who allow themselves to be exploited for money. Money cannot buy pride, self-respect nor dignity. The BULK of the blame lies with black women. I’m not saying that to absolve the black men who seek to exploit black women. I’m just being real.

#7 Uh Me-I Guess on 04.03.09 at 12:27 pm

I remembered this, out of the depths of the memory. I can’t say I really am a fan of the music, but Bruce Cockburn did this song years ago as a protest piece. Finished with this line:

“If I had a rocket launcher…Some son of a bitch would die”

That’s gonna be the “call” isn’t it, right after (With a Rebel Yell – thx’s Billy Idol) she cries out “Goonette”!

I think you ought to start on the HALO-style game version, like right now! A melding of Pam Grier (THE original Foxy Brown) and Delta Force. She slays all scum-bag men (and their women “defenders”) to free her sisters and finds true love and appreciation of her personal value in the arms of …………………a white man. LOL!

And I mean this all, in that awful “humor” when the subjects SO BAD, you can’t get a rational mind around it.

Now, mind if I go puke over the mind-altering …. What COULD I possibly call that video clip?

#8 LD on 04.03.09 at 1:29 pm

I’m at work and I can’t get access to the video. Although, I’m more than sure it’s Plies, I can’t stand him anyways. I think he’s horrible and is part of the reason why hip hop music is DEAD!!!!!

#9 Robert on 04.03.09 at 3:32 pm

It is this crap that will put the KKK in bankruptcy. Their services are not needed because we have become the blackkks doing their job for them.

#10 undressingHER on 04.03.09 at 3:38 pm

I’m not a fan of Plies, but there’s obviously a market for this stuff. I don’t blame Plies, this is how he lives (or how I assume he lives). Be mad at the culture, not just black culture, that shows people competing for others people temporary affection in a sexual charged, drunken, hostile environment. I’ve always wondered how this is reality tv? In what real world do 15 women live together and fight each other over a dude? Polygamy?

#11 Uh Me-I Guess on 04.03.09 at 4:15 pm

Hey, gem2001! How come you get that cool yellow background to your comments? I’ve been huntin’ for that pull-down/button/toolbar for, like 2 hours now …

#12 gem2001 on 04.03.09 at 4:27 pm

@uh that is most unfortunate that you have bee searching for 2 hours.

That feature is reserved for WAOD “premium ” members…ie those who pay the monthly hoasting fee, answer never ending emails, subject themselves to libel, theats and attempted intimidation, moderate comments and update the rapidly expanding “banned” list.

Let me know when you want to sign up for “premium” membership so you can get the yellow background ;)

#13 Marcy Webb on 04.03.09 at 5:21 pm

Well, how stupid are WE as Black women to want to be on a show like this in the first place? Can we blame everything on patriarchy, racism and capitalism?

#14 gem2001 on 04.03.09 at 5:47 pm

@marcy who blamed the patriarchy.

I am so sick of people using the actions of a few deluded and morally bankrupt people to try to undermine legitimate concerns about sexism.

But your observations about Black woen’s culpability are noted….beause we never get held responsible for anything /sarcasm

#15 msladydeborah on 04.04.09 at 1:14 am

This is not a reason to weep. It is a reason to get a can of WA out and get busy. WTF? (excuse me) This is just another example of what a wasted mind produces.
I am ready to take up arms now!
Ugh! I can’t take it anymore!
What in the hell is wrong with the women who participate in this nonsense? I don’t get it!

#16 Khadija on 04.04.09 at 7:55 am

I think that it’s good to keep this video in mind the next time people raise some of the nonsensical statements that were made in response to the earlier blog post titled All Money Ain’t Good Money: A Person, A Place, a Thing.

You know…arguments such as: (1) That anyone who (openly) disagrees with this sort of activity is being “judgmental” and “self-righteous.” (2) That this sort of activity can reasonably be compared to the many other ways of figuratively prostituting oneself, such as working a cubicle job that one does not enjoy. (3) That anyone who disagrees with these women’s decisions to engage in self-abasement is engaging in “slut shaming.”

A lot of us don’t want to admit that there really IS a difference between right and wrong. Or that there are negative consequences that flow from choosing wrong.

Those of us who do comprehend the concepts of right vs. wrong should not allow these individuals to silence us with their faux-sophisticated, but yet nonsensical, arguments. Just remember the degradation on display in this video. “Remember Goonette.”

Peace, blessings and solidarity.

#17 Lorraine on 04.04.09 at 10:19 am

I had never heard of this character and I see I missed out on absolutely nothing.

#18 BLKSeaGoat on 04.04.09 at 1:15 pm

In the words of my mother, “Sometimes I just wanna opt out of blackness..period”

The saddest thing about Goonette is that it will probably be a hit! I can see black folks everywhere, even the high-falutin, ejuhmakated, middle classers, who enjoyed the Real Housewives of ATL, Anything that was ever on UPN, and Tyler-Perry esque chitlin’ eatin negro type plays will prove to be VERY viable to Plies in the ratings race.

To say that I am disguted would be a gross understatement. I am disappointed in us – all of us, but particularly black men for allowing this kind of GARBAGE to promulgated as entertainment. There is NOTHING redeeming about a midget with 2 bastard children who strips for a living.

However, she would not have the “opportunity” to do something like that if MEN did not create a market for that kind of filth. I could not watch the rest of the film. I thought I was watching a black underclass version of Little People meets Good Times.

I saw this and it made me mad. And sad. If this is what passes for survivial in our community, we’ve already lost.

#20 Tracy on 04.04.09 at 10:20 pm

Our race is screwed they finally got us near the point of return.

#21 Tracy on 04.04.09 at 10:21 pm

Sorry, No return

I think Plies said it best himself after the video clip: “All I can say is ‘WOW!’ ” SMDH

This is SEXUALLY PERVERTED on so many levels namely:

The emphasis on her dwarfism, and the connotations of innocence and childhood affiliated with such is PERVERTED.

Can’t people see this?

This is another form of pedophilia…

Wake up people!

#24 Tracy on 04.05.09 at 10:58 am

No people can’t see it we just a bunch of zombies this is a sick world.

#25 Eva on 04.06.09 at 10:19 am

People need to realize that you can have money, you can lose money, people can lend you money but once your good name, your image is tarnished, you’ll be hard pressed to get it back. You might never, ever get it back.

#26 Uh Me-I Guess on 04.06.09 at 10:46 am

Eva that was nicely said.
I always wonder how come the subject of money/economic situation is the justification of so much these days.
I would like to think that a person’s economic status and their personal MORALITY (yah know, that lost concept of right and wrong regardless of your circumstances) were not so interconnected.
But since many do argue one connects the other, I guess I delude myself.

#27 La Morenita on 04.08.09 at 9:33 pm

Hollywood Blackout,

WTH!! Are you serious? Percy Miller’s (aka Master P) little brother is asking for $1K donations for his legal fund? I thought he was already on permanent lockdown, or is that his other bro? :shrugs:

UNBELIEVABLE! I have to fwd that link to all.

Apologies if I strayed off topic, but I was dumbfounded by that tidbit.

#28 Staying Stong on 04.10.09 at 9:24 am

Folks, we’re doomed. Doomed, I tell ya. The war on black women is alive, well and adequately funded. There are many who will say this Goonette nonsense doesn’t influence the behaviors of our (young) folk. But many of us know better. Even over at Racialicious (one of my fav sites) the mods won’t even consider any discusson hip hop’s infuence on domestic violence in our community. Unbelievable. I weep for our daughters.

#29 Grylgroove on 04.12.09 at 8:05 pm

When you turn the lights on, the vermin scatters about looking for cover. We’ll always have obnoxious characters posing as entertainers pimping themselves out to make a living, it’s just a part of the fabric of life; a life that I don’t support or believe in. I would think that these folks have the capacity to use their mental facilities to create something of positive value for themselves and their families, but can and will they do so or continue to engage in dangerous and useless behavior?

#30 Anonymiss on 04.12.09 at 10:38 pm

See, this is why I don’t follow mainstream cRap music anymore. I’m so disgusted with Kirk Franklin’s ugly little brother. What a talentless hack.

Ain’t it about time that FAMU revoke this cretin’s degree?

#31 Chrstiena on 05.16.09 at 11:20 am

People’s lives are different from yours and mine. It’s their decision what they want to do with it so don’t judge what you don’t know.
