What About Solutions is a weekly feature here at What About Our Daughters. Each Wednesday, we’ll feature an ordinary individual or organization that is doing their part to be part of the solution.
Our first entry of 2009 is from WAOD reader Kimberly ELLIS ( I originally said “Kimberly Caldwell)” via my Facebook page that I NEVER check.
This is the trailer for Dr. Goddess!: A One Woman Show. I know you’re always asking about solutions and I felt the same way and created one. This story is about the coming-of-age of a black girl. I already know you get it, so no need to explain further. Let me know what you think of the trailer when you get a chance. No rush, no pressure . . .
The fan page will give you easy access to everything as well:

Dr. Goddess
Kimberly I applaud your courage to take the stage in a one woman show. When we sang “I am a Promise” in church, we didn’t necessarily break it down like that, but it was unique.
Folks take a page from Kimberly!Tired of pop culture and what you are seeing? Take a risk? Put yourself out there and start creating like your fellow WAOD reader Kimberly! I want to see some sock puppet theater, some cellphone mockumentaries, Attorneymom, JJ, Al from Bay Shore, Yme, Yvonne et al, when are y’all going to drop that mix tape? Instead of “The Thong Song” lets produce “The Student Loan Song. Don’t take out student loooooans!!!
If you have a nomination for What About Solutions, you can fill out the WAOD contact form.

LOL.
Oh *7%6 Naw.
Don’t be calling me out.
LOL
Actually this is cool. My undergrad major was film and tv.
I have just about everything except lights to produce a decent quality low budget project.
The only thing is that I need help - people who are reliable and responsible to work with me. The level of flakiness is astonishing.
The last project I did earned me a commendation from a police dept and the level of flakiness I had to deal within order to get this thing off the ground was mindboggling. The same with the indie feature I worked on.
I have many personal projects in various stages that I am trying to launch, but the thing is finding good people and I refuse to do it all.
I have many short films that I have written, produced, directed, and edited that are ok or good, but the thing that stops them from being better and excellent is - quality control.
I have my demo project right now that is unedited. I have the final cut suite and I know avid, but I am not a professional editor.
in the past year I have been through 3 editors. The first did nothing. the second held it for 3 months and allowed my intellectual property to cross state lines and the third held it for 3 months as well and did nothing to it.
And these were people who were being paid.
Oshun I am certain if you reached out the organizations like Women In Film and signed up for one of their local yahoo groups where you live you’d find reliable people.
Greetings everybody!
Gina, thank you so much for posting my trailer! Hello everyone, I’m Kimberly C. Ellis, Ph.D. aka “Dr. Goddess”
Bless Gina’s heart, I think she was thinking of American Idol when she posted “Kimberly Caldwell” LOL
My show has been on tour since 2004. Once people see it, it’s over, they love it, they pass on the info. But it does take some time for the word to spread. Here are pics and more information:

If you want more information, even on your own project, just contact me with the info in this profile.
I wish you all the best. I wrote this show because I wanted to inspire myself, my students, my family, my community and, literally, to change the world. I cannot even pretend that I did this “for art’s sake” because I didn’t. I wanted a full onslaught and assault on popular culture, the education system, racism, sexism, the whole nine. I just so happen to be an artist who was living her life “underground” as an academic scholar and finally let the full artist out . . . hence: Meet Dr. Goddess. Become a Believer.

All the best to you all,
Dr. Goddess
Thanks Faith.
