Typically, comments related to the administration and editorial direction are frowned upon, however, we make an exception today because we are considering a change that will have a far greater impact on you as a reader than me as a blogger and I don’t have an opinion one way or the other.
So we’re doing some upgrades in December while everyone is off work and off of the blogs
and we are debating which comments plug-in to use. If you have experience as a blog reader or blogger with CoComment, Disqus, Haloscan ( or its new owner) or SezWho, let me know if you have had any good/bad experiences with any of them -especially any issues with your computer “locking up” or slowing down
If you have experience with another commenting system, feel free to throw that one in the mix. I think ultimately it is a personal preference that varies with each blog reader.
Thanks,

I don’t have any experience with any of the above systems. I am down for whatever makes things easier. I will go and learn about the systems that you mentioned. You know the social media adventurista in me loves to learn.
I use Sez Who on some of my blogs…no complaints..but I don’t know if like the idea that you can trace all of the comments I make across the blogsphere.
I think your best bet is Disqus. I love its nested comments and community attributes. I have had bad experiences with Haloscan.
sezwho! sezwho!
I put in a vote for Disqus as well. If your computer goes offline for any reason you’re original comment is preserved and can be resent, also I like the video commenting option.
Hello All,
This is Priya from SezWho here. Just wanted to clarify one point regarding the plug-in. We have an option where you can even hide the comments you do not wish others to view. This way you also have the freedom of protecting your privacy as and when you want.
For more details on how SezWho can benefit your blog, please visit http://www.sezwho.com. For any assistance, please feel free to mail me.
Happy blogging!
Regards
Priya
The website below has the best comments section that I’ve come across.
http://www.verysmartbrothas.com/
I think Lizz Burr @calinative created the site.
I like the comments section because I can read the comments easier online and on my Blackberry.
I have problems with Disquis on the blackberry.
Also, people have 2 minutes to edit their comment.
Note on your mobile site: I can’t see comments from my blackberry.
Thanks AH. I do own part of VSB and manage all tech on the site. I often struggle with going with one of these commenting systems vs using what’s built into wordpress. The commenting systems have good promises, but it’s putting a lot to rely on them to 1) stay up and 2) stay for the long haul. Web 2.0 shops open and close daily, but I know my wordpress or movable type system will always be there, and if they’re not, I know I can export all entries and comments unto a txt or xml file and take them where I need them to go.
I think those commenting systems are most useful for their special features and are for those not tech savvy enough to fiddle with their movable type or wordpress (recent comments, most commented, etc).
Hi Gina,
A new version of wordpress should be available soon and the comment system is changing. You will be able to have threaded comments. Basically this allows your readers to not only make comments on your post but will be able to comment on others comments.
The new version should be available before the end of the year. You can check out the blog section on wordpress.org to get more info.
I like that your comment system has the comments numbered. (I also kinda liked that your comment used to be in yellow background).
