Bishop Weeks Seeks YouTube Bailout: “Resizing not Downsizing”

Mr. Juanita Bynum also known as Bishop Tommy “The Hit Man” Weeks got evicted from his church for failure to pay $400,000 in rent.

Apparently he didn’t get the prophesy that the Sheriff was coming to kick his congregation out in the middle of a meeting. I saw this YouTube clip over at Character Corner. His YouTube solicitation is entertaining in and of itself, but the captions and subtitles actually make the video:

They are showing no mercy over there in the Character Corner comments section.

As a minister of the gospel, I have to say that this is just about the greatest thing I’ve seen happen for the church in a long time. I hope more of these “ministries” who prey upon their people for profit are brought to the ground. The church has never done very well with power – crusades, witch-hunting, slavery. I feel bad for the “mega” ministries who actually do have good, quality pastors. But, truth is, it would be better for the church if their doors closed too. The sooner we stop associating faithfulness with money the better off we Christians will be.

I am so glad that this ministry is crashing and burning before the world. The Bible plainly says that the idea of gain being equated with godliness is a false doctrine. I’m convinced more of them will, especially when the adherents find out through this next season that what they were being taught is not producing the results these extortioners promised. They can sell their toys and trinkets and pay their bills like the rest of us have to do. Frankly I humbly feel these ‘ministries’ will become black holes in the near future because of God’s judgment on them.

I personally hope all the prosperity preachers lose their meal tickets. IMHO, they’re con artists and nothing more. Heck most of ‘em probably couldn’t identify the Bible in a line up with a neon sign pointing at it to hear some of their “sermons”.

Knowing that Week’s is the first one to go down (and hopefully stays down) just makes my day.

It’s a shame to me anyway that Run from Run DMC had to follow them and become one of these prosperity preachers. But these days it seems there’s always someone in the public eye that you lose more and more respect for.

2008 has not bode well for the Chitlin’ Eatin’ Negro. I am elated to see the debacle unfold so publicly.

I guess since judgment begins at the household of faith, that we can expect to see more of this happening.

Paula and Randy White’s Church went into forclosure, Earl “I’m my son’s uncle, but really his daddy” Paulk is selling off Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, and Tomy “Tight Pants” Weeks had a service cut short because Gwinnett County Sherrif’s forced him to “resize” his “kingdom”.

And look at the vacant smiles on the faces of those clueles AND incredibly stupid church members?

This is too funny. Sad, but too funny.

Good. But some brain washed church folks will bail him out.

I have no empathy. These people are judge/jury on others and now want mercy in public opinion about how they have fallen?

I don’t care. All these so called ’saved’ people and look @ the state of our communities and beyond.

#7 ak on 11.21.08 at 4:17 pm

How can these people stick by him like in that video news footage, when they like a fool gave him and others like him their hard-earned money, yet stand around gaping like a fish out of water wondering why the rent was never paid on the church and the marshall came to lock it up?

Have you seen this Rev drive by in five different Benz’s that came in all different colors and guzzling up gas in these credit crunch times?

Have you heard him talk about Expedia.com alot? Does he always come back to the church looking more tanned and even darker, well-rested, and massaged talking about still having sand stuck up his butt somewhere?

Somewhere out there, there are ministers, evangelists and pastors doing the right thing. I hava a sister in Michigan doing this very thing and has been since childhood-but I find the holiness she represents is like finding a needle in a haystack!

What 300 members stayed?

Just because SOME preachers aren’t pleasing God doesn’t mean that God’s Word about tithing isn’t still the truth.

Some people use the false prophets as an excuse not to tithe ANYWHERE — and that’s against God’s Word.

We’ve all got issues…

#11 cinco on 11.23.08 at 8:25 am

Tithing is based on your belief in first God; and second a religious doctrine. If you don’t believe in either you don’t tithed and you could not care less about the rise or fall of preachers and/or churches.

Not everyone believes in these concepts.

#12 lorMarie on 11.23.08 at 12:43 pm

The bible does NOT command believers to tithe. If someone wants to, that’s a different story but its not mandatory. I would give, but not tithe. You’ll still be blessed whether you tithe or not.

I have nothing nice to say about this clown. I wonder what he will have to say on judgement day when face to face with the Almighty??

#14 cinco on 11.23.08 at 5:12 pm

@lorMarie;

Provided one even believes in the Bible…

If you want to give money to the church and only when you can, I say give no more than $5.00 I mean especially in US where some churches do have large congregations. So how can at least $5.00 from most of the congreagation of a large church not go far enough?

But what I have heard from some of the people who comment on this blog about what they have heard black preachers say these days anyway is despicable.

How dare any pastor tell you how much you should give to the church? How dare he or she ask you for like $50.00 or more towards the church? Pure foolishness.

If there is no scholarship fund, or something as helpful as raising reward money for finding a missing woman or child and/or their captors *hint, hint*, or something for the children of the community’s favor or something like that then what the heck are you really putting your hard-earned money towards, and for whom?

And it doesn’t matter if you’re always broke or if you have loads of savings, or if you are earning upper-middle class bracket money either. Why the heck should people give SO much of their cash and give into demands that a preacher may have the audacity to make about cash to the church?

The question above is especially relevant to churches with very large congregations.

This makles me sick to my stomach Why? because of Him and his ex-wife being obediant years ago by ministering the Word of the Lord my life has been spared. And we, if we call ourlselves people of God then we shouldnt be on here Bashing judging and disputing the tithe principle. We should pray for him. He obviously needs mental and spiritual help-and we should not try to sit here and judge him-remember the bible says judge not or you shall be judged by the same Rod you judge-and obviously the Lord is exposing him in his own light-so we need to not be the second judge-we are sinners and get defensive and defend oursleves and dismiss warning as well-so look at it as that.

#17 ak on 11.27.08 at 6:10 am

Look at it as not giving a church more than $5.00 each time a church member attends. That should be a good enough tithing principle.

I am skeptical when people always revert to the following passage NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION IS:

Matt 7.1-5
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment that you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, “Let me take the speck out of your eye,” when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

This is not a license for enabling, excusing and predator protectionism…People take one passage and make it the entire Bible…Now let’s read a little further down in the book of Matthew….Consider this: Matt 21:12
12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

Religiosity has so many people confused whereas some have actually become zealots. There will be some poor women(ATM’s) who will actually give this man money because they have been indoctrinated with giving and no reciprocity, destined to be a burden bearer only. Take the ministry to the streets and minister to those who are not in the four walls of a building, our communities really need this.

#20 J.Adia on 11.29.08 at 10:52 pm

I’m not a tither, but I have been working over it. I don’t believe you will be blessed anymore if you tithe, I just think it is a way of showing God you are thankful for what He has given to you. I trust the leadership of my pastor so I would really have no problem tithing (if I did).

I think some people forget that many churches still have mortgages, bills, and staff to pay. I attend one of the larger black churches in Vegas and there are a lot of community programs the church provides like feeding the homeless and providing financial assistance to church members in needs. All these programs are dependent on the tithes and offering.

Unfortunately the rotten apples seem to ruin things for churches that are doing things according to God’s will.

#21 ak on 12.01.08 at 6:58 am

Yeah J. Adia give directly as you can to those types of church programmes and still give them whatever you feasibly CAN give and WHEN you can give them money.

But that open collection plate always did look a little suspect to me.

Like I said for especially the churches with large congregations, whether the members in there are rich or poor, i don’t see what the problem would be with tithing no more than $5.00.

plates, tithing, gifts, love offerings…I’m in the wrong business.

The “WHAT!” caption almost killed me.
