Now with all the Black journalists floating around CNN, you would think that network would turn to one of them to be the new host of a new weekly show. Nope, they chose to go with a Black “comedian” and I use that word loosely.
CNN is diving into the increasingly crowded arena of news-driven comedy, tapping comedian D.L. Hughley to host a show that will offer a skewering take on news and events.
The show, set to air on Saturdays at 10 p.m. ET beginning Oct. 25, will feature Hughley and guests riffing on politics, entertainment, sports and pop culture. Variety
Apparently, the show will be called “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News. According to CNN, they picked him because he watches cable news. This is Hughley’s response:
“I am very excited for the opportunity to work with the network that I have watched for a very long time, and that to a large extent, has shaped my comedic view,” Hughley said in a press release. “CNN offers the perfect blend of news and information on a local, national and international level. What more can a comedian ask for?” CNN.com
“Today CNN proudly listed DL Hughley’s professional accomplishments *cough* failures *cough*:
D.L. Hughley is one of the most popular and highly recognized standup comedians on the road today and has also appeared in several feature films and television projects. Hughley recently appeared in a one-hour stand-up special for HBO titled “Unapologetic” and hosted BET’s hidden camera show S.O.B., as well as the 2008 season of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam. Hughley also starred in the Aaron Sorkin drama series for NBC, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. TV Newser
Um all of those were CANCELED and has CNN actually watched episodes of Socially Offensive Behavior? IT was a dreadful show on an equally dreadful network.
Readers of this blog will likely remember Hugley for this appearance on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno where he declared that Don Imus was right and declared that the Rutger’s basketball team were “some of the ugliest women [he] had ever seen in his life”
“There were some nappy headed women on the team and those are some of the ugliest women I have ever seen in my life.” DL HUGHLEY on Jay Leno.
What made Hughley’s TOnight Show appearance so repugnant wasn’t the fact that he attempted to get his laughs on the backs of Black women, that’s nothing new, but Hughley going in front of a White audience to echo Don Imus’ opinion. In other words, Hughley was basically saying “It’s okay. I’m Black and I think Black women are ugly too— in fact, they are some of the “ugliest women I have ever seen in my life!”" More After the jump.
This blog was one of the few places to condemn Hughley in light of radio silence from all those who had caterwauled in response to Imus’ remarks. We took it a step further by daring our favorite pompadoured preacher to condemn Hughley as resoundingly as he had condemned Imus. He did.
WAOD readers being the entrepreneurial folks that they are then organized a peaceful demonstration respectfully disagreeing with Hughley’s opinion that his own mother, daughters, aunts and nieces are “ugly. ”
Now our point wasn’t that Hughley should be carted off to jail. Our point was that Don Imus got his advertising yanked for basically saying the same thing, Hughley got a pass because it was Black on Black rhetorical violence. When confronted by protesters in Ft. Worth ( thanks to the work of WAOD readers), Hughley swiftly wrapped himself in the cloak of the First Amdenment. One small problem however. Hughley has no idea what the First Amendment says. He can’t even quote the first five words. I know this because when his publicist contacted the Onion AV to notify them that my readers were demonstrating, I challenged the reporter to ask DL Hughley if he could quote the first five words to this amendment he was hiding behind. Here is his response.
AVC: Ms. McCauley has challenged you to recite the first five words of the First Amendment.
DLH: Look, I don’t know all the words of the Bible, but that doesn’t mean I don’t believe in God! [Laughs.] I don’t know all the words of the Constitution—that don’t mean I’m not entitled to it. I’ve got a GED, so there’s a lot of things I don’t know, but what I do know is, I’m one of the best comics in this country, and I’ll keep being one of the best comics in this country. I challenge her to cite one example of me not loving black women in their natural state! Here’s the truth of the matter: I know women, and I know hoes. I know black men, and I know niggers. I know bitches and I know friends. I do! And I won’t pretend that I don’t. My gig is to call it like I see it. So she knows the first five words, so what is that? What does that accomplish? AV Club
What it accomplishes is to demonstrate that CNN has hired an ignorant boob to cover political discourse. What else is new. I stopped hammering away at Hughley once his publicist started using this blog to drum up interest in his inferior talent:
“You should be aware that there is an internet blogger based in Austin who has started a campaign against D.L. in response to some comments he made as a joke on The Tonight Show back in early May. She is trying to get some kind of protest together of D.L.’s show at Cap City. Please feel free to ask D.L. about this, as he has quite a bit in response to it.” DL HUghley’s Publicist
I’d actually never heard of the whole “DL Hughley controversy” until someone from CapCity Comedy Club, where D.L. is performing this week, called me about it. They were worrying aloud–in other words, fishing for coverage–that the same thing might happen here. It was their suggestion that it might make a good story for the Austin edition. SOURCE
Hughley wouldn’t be nearly as annoying is he were indeed funny, but he is not. He possesses inferior comedic talent to that of his peers. A fact confirmed by all of his most recent television efforts being swiftly cancelled. IF CNN wanted to find a comedian who could intelligently skewer politicians and poke fun at current events, there is a laundry list of people who could do much better than Hughley.
“D.L. is a news junkie who is bursting with things to say about what is going on in the world — most of them funny, all of them thoughtful, none of them predictable,” said Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. “When you watch as much news as our audience does, there comes a time you just want to stop and laugh — and that time will be Saturday nights at 10 on CNN.” CNN.com
He has to have naked pictures of somebody to continue to get television work failure after failure.
Call BET and ask them how badly it’s hurt the show…. I dare her [ that would be ME!] to keep it up! Hurt me like she’s been hurting me, please! DL Hughley
Um, DL, your BET show was canceled before I could pick up the phone to call. Sorry, you tanked too fast
To be clear, if DL Hughley were a White comedian saying the things he says about Black women, he would not have been hired by CNN. Would CNN hire Imus to host a show? No! SO why hire someone who basically did the exact same thing?
If he were a Black comedian of any substance that could speak knowledgeably about political issues of the day, he likewise, would not have been hired. Listen to Hughley’s articulate explanation of “Freedom of Speech”
To Hughley’s publicist who is reading this blog in hopes that I will create some new controversy to help her talent impaired client, alas I shall not help you this time. I did all I could to assist Hughley’s last television endeavor and it was an abysmal failure despite my best efforts. Take a walk down memory lane and review my commentary on DL Hughley’s misguided belief that he is somehow a guardian of the First Amendment.

I read the announcement and cringed. I would like to take note of who advertises during this show. Who watches CNN on a Sat night anyway? This man’s career is about to go the way of the do-do bird. Next! We’ve got an economy to fix.
Did he call black women ugly, of did the call the Rutger’s women ugly? I’m sure that he doesn’t consider Ladonna to be ugly nor does he hate her since he married her.
The good thing is, his show will likely not last. At any rate, this is a shining example of why I am not only thankful for this blog but the awakening I’ve experienced as a black woman. That is to be fiercely proud of who I am and to become politically active in favor of black women. A nice little email to CNN is in order.
Jeez…a brother gets a gig at a news giant and you feminist get all pissed off because he made a joke about the women he loves. Yeah the joke was in bad taste and you all keep adding fuel to the fire with your bad attitudes. If he was white he wouldn’t blah blah blah…he isn’t white. Show him some support, and he is one of the funniest comics out there.
I saw the headline yesterday. I didn’t even read the article. Don’t stop at the email to CNN. Remember, we have to go where the money is. Send emails to the ADVERTISERS. I will tape the 1st show if I’m still in the US and get the advertisers. If they pull out, there won’t be a show.
DL has had a string of canceled shows since the Hughleys, why is CNN taking a gamble on him. No thanks CNN, I will stick with my Bill Maher podcasts.
I have commited a WAOD sin and I watch the BET awards and DL was terrible. Even the black folks aren’t laughing at him anymore.
@Naima, we all fall down
JK Girl I am not anybody’s God. Y’all can watch whatever y’all want to.
CNN was probably thinking, hmmm let’s find the most ignorant, grammar-challenged black man and give him a show. This guy was turned down by ABC, BET, CBS and NBC. His cruel remarks from the past are just appalling. As a black person, I am extremely insulted that this is the best CNN can do. What this guy said in the past about the Rutgers Women’s basketball and Imus, congratulations CNN for sinking to a whole new “low”. The world will be watching this one too. This guy will not be representing the Black community, but he will be representing the U.S. Good luck with that CNN.
Any attempt to keep up with Fox. What a joke!
No thanks CNN, I will stick with my Bill Maher podcasts.
Isn’t DL a common guest of Maher?
How odd, black women make up over 60% of the black vote, and yet we get treated like we are less than 15% of the population.
An easy win for any network would be another “View” program, but for black and other minority women. There would be many more issues for them to cover like sports, money, etc.
I don’t watch TV, but if the clips were made available online I would watch. The only thing is that it has to be nothing like what Essence or Cosmo would present.
Show him some support, and he is one of the funniest comics out there.–Teddy
I challenge you to support the next cop accused of racially targeting black men. DL can go to “you know where” as far as I’m concerned.
I can’t speak for all black women on this, but there is no such thing as a “brother” outside of the two who are blood related to me. Thus, there is no racial obligation to support a black man simply because he’s black. Call it a bad attitude, feminism, whatever you wish. I call it self-preservation.
I think what people find “funny” can be very telling. Clearly Mr Hughley used the “nappy headed…ugly” rift because he expected a laugh. Comedians try to find humor in things the broader audience can relate to, so therefore we all have to be in on the joke.
If these perceptions didn’t exist he couldn’t make a joke of it. The same with Mr. Rock, if there wasn’t stress and anger between black men and women about gender roles. Few would have found Mr. Rock’s “black woman can’t be First Lady” joke funny or upsetting.
I think the bigger concern is that these perceptions play well in the black community.
In reference to Mr. Rock’s comments, I have been in two situations where I had to listen to a BM say something like”Well you know most sisters won’t get behind a brother and support him no questions asked”. Both times these comments were made in an open matter of fact fashion. So I feel these beliefs are out there…and I do believe widely held.
Just as there are widely held negative perceptions about nappy heads.
These beliefs have to be confronted which is why it is great when folks like Gina speak up.
If no one speaks up…it continues.
Teddy, LorMarie is right. We should not support bm just because they are black. That’s why this rap culture is so vehemently defended, and I don’t hear male comedians of other races putting their women down the like this.
What he said was wrong, but those Rutgers women are all high achievers, and going places, so the joke is on him.
I had not heard about his commentary regarding the basket ball team but listening to his defense was absolutely astounding…There is a difference between free speech and hate speech and he is unable to understand the difference. Someone spouting hate is not engaging free conversation they are ‘othering’.
He clearly thinks of himself as an intelligent man and I am sure that pride that he speaks about will be terribly wounded when his show is canceled. If that interview is an example of his intellectual discourse I don’t imagine that he will last long on CNN. Even Maher covers his bullshit better than that.
CNN was probably thinking, hmmm let’s find the most ignorant, grammar-challenged black man and give him a show.
If you consider Hughley the most “grammar-challenged black man” they could find, then you have a very high general opinion of black men’s grammar skills?
Hughley backing Don Imus’s remarks about the Rutgers basketball team was not his attempt at humor it was his attempt at saving his trade. Hughley in his stand up routines is notorious for picking out people in the audience and making fun of them regardless of who they are. So of course he had an interest on the outcome of the Imus fall out because that could easily be him, it was about his self preservation.
The tragic part about the matter is he is intelligent, funny, well informed, and well spoken, but he put a black mark on his career with those remarks.
Well, I believe the problem is…”intelligent….well informed”…BM seem to find humor again and again in these offensive stereotypes. If Mr. Hughley is indeed that “funny”, I m sure we will see him in the fat lady suit in coming months.
I don’t care for D.L., however, he has the right to say whatever he wants. And I have the authority to not watch his show or listen to his comedy routines. It really is that simple.
I personally don’t see anything great about Obama. He is your classic politician pandering to the black vote when a year prior he could care less. His race does nothing for me.
I am a Democrat and I vote the party line. He doesn’t represent me nor does he know where I came from. That is a lie they all tell but the only person who understands your struggle is the person there with you not the person looking in.
If he wins, I will be a happy black woman because that means one less barrier we have to break. I will never think he is qualified. He will be successful no matter what because of who he is replacing. Anything is better than Bush.
The same goes for D.L. Although I don’t like him, Beyonce, Terrence Howard, Oprah, Dave Chappelle, etc. I will always respect their ability to break barriers and open doors for others.
This all boils down to one simple truth: It’s not what you’re called, it’s what you answer to.
Don Imus, DL, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy…the list goes on and on. Are we so simple and sensitive that we jump up everytime someone says something we don’t like? If so, we’re going to spend a lot of time jumping. There is so much more out there that needs our attention than some has-been comic who needs to step on our shoulders to achieve his version of fame. If you don’t like him, don’t watch, don’t listen. The truth of their character will eventually be revealed.
Does silence equate acceptance? No, not in my book. I just think if I remain silent and keep feeding you rope, you WILL inevitably hang yourself.
In the space of six months after D.L. Hughley degraded eight black teenage girls on the Jay Leno show, D.L. was asked to host the “BET Awards”, the “NAACP Image Awards”, and “People’s Choice Awards”. Now, the CNN show.
The so-called brother ain’t that damn funny. So, what’s up with that?
Because blacks who degrade other blacks are always REWARDED by the white supremacist system because WE relieve whites of the job of doing it.
The best way to perpetuate black stereotypes and racial slurs is to get blacks to do it — to ourselves.
Once a black “entertainer” makes it known that he (or she) is willing to degrade black people for a dollar (like D.L. Hughley did on the Jay Leno Show), the job offers will pour in.
Look at Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence movies. “Big Momma’s House I & II”, and “Norbit”. Hollywood-produced movies that show brown and dark skinned BW as fat, nasty, ignorant and unlovable.
The white supremacist entertainment industry knows if they can get us (BM) to degrade BW, we forget we are degrading ourselves since we came from a black female’s womb. Therefore, by degrading BW we destroy our own self-esteem. This effectively divides and conquers BOTH the BM from the BW.
They know exactly what they’re doing. Bet on it.
Now, let’s do our job.
STOP SUPPORTING BLACK ENTERTAINERS WHO ARE PAID TO DEGRADE BLACK PEOPLE.
BROTHERS, WE MUST STOP PIMPING BLACK WOMEN (OUR MOTHERS, GRANDMOTHERS, DAUGHTERS, WIVES, LOVERS, SISTERS, NIECES, AUNTS, AND FRIENDS) FOR A DOLLAR. STOP SUPPORTING BM WHO DO IT.
SISTERS, STOP SPENDING YOUR MONEY WITH “ENTERTAINERS” WHO DEGRADE YOU BY PORTRAYING YOU AS FAT, SASSY, IGNORANT AND UNLOVABLE. STOP BUYING MUSIC THAT CALLS YOU BITCH AND HO.
IT IS UP TO BW TO RESPECT THEMSELVES. DO NOT TOLERATE ANYTHING LESS.
I WILL DO MY PART.
DO YOURS.
PEACE
I am deepley offended by the appearance of this Hughley character on CNN. His profanity and street comedy is what I try to keep myself and my family away from. Does anyone know where to direct your concerns to at CNN?
DL has always been very professional and has never expressed anything anti-woman while I was working with him.
I understand you all being pissed at Imus still, as well as a whole host of others who have let their misogyny shine in the face of H Clinton and Palin. But its overreacting to call DL anti-woman just because he went for the cheap joke.
Save your energy for a positive outcome for this election. And also for understanding who the real misogynist are out there, including confused people like Palin who don’t even respect your choice over your own body.
DL is a one of the smartest men I have ever met, and if you ever listen to him in conversation, he is one of the most enlightened and compassionate.
Sorry he hurt you from a little quip, but I remind you…he IS a comic and gets paid to make people laugh. Imus, Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage, Beck…I put them all into the same category…are NOT comics, and not only anti-woman but anti-everyONE. Ultimately they brainwash a good deal of the woman haters you are concerned with… Why aren’t you attacking them?
As a black female I LOVE DL. He expressed the views of any thinking person. If that same joke had been told by Jay Anthony Brown or some other black comedian or even DL before Imus, we would not have bat an eye. You all would have laughed and been on your way.
But some hideous old white man who has made his living being offensive, who most black people don’t listen to any way, tells a joke and we loose our minds. How often do we tell our kids not to respond to name calling because they are just words and yet we gave a few simple words and an obnoxious old idiot more time and attention than he was ever worth.
What ever happened to freedom of speech. Who was it that said I may not agree with what you are saying but I would die for your right to say it??? That’s what’s great about America. We have the right to freedom of speech. I have never listened to Don Imus and never knew who he was before this whole incident but he is not important enough to insult me.
I, like DL and a host of others, am sick to death of Political Correctness. As Americans we are headed down a slippery slope. I would hate to turn on my radio one morning and find out that there was no more Tom Joyner or Jay Anthony Brown because someone found one of their “white women” jokes offensive.
I cringed when I heard CNN was giving D.L. Hugley a show. After watching the show I wanted to punch a hole in my T.V. The show was ‘Coontastic ‘ The Pimp scence and the Sammy Davis ‘porkchop’ scene was the lowest. One has to wonder CNN’s timing in putting Hugley on CNN a week before this historic election.
We shoul all go the the CNN website and email them to let them know of our distaste for the DL Hugley, so called comedy news show.
It is degrading and does not represent the African American communtiy. HE IS IGNORANT!!!!
When I first saw anything from DL Hugley, I never liked him or thought him funny. His spirit seems mean and he often times makes fun of people in his audience. People are hurting in the world and word are real and can be used to make or break the soul. Some thing her best left unspoken and unsaid. Being what you think is real, outspoken or whatever one calls it…is not often the right thing to do or say.
One of these days he will learn the hard way that what you throw out into the universe from your lips will come back to haunt you.
When I first saw anything from DL Hugley, I was never fond of him or thought him very funny. His spirit seems mean and he often times make fun of people in his audiences. People are hurting in the world and words are real and can be used to make or break the soul. Words can cause pain within the body, even tho one maybe smiling through all that is said. Had it even dawned on him that something he may have said to an individual could be the last straw in that person not wanting to live. Some things are best left unspoken and unsaid. Keeping it “real” or whatever one calls it…is not often the right thing to consider. One of these days Mr. DLH will learn the hard way …that what he throws out into the universe will eventually come back to haunt him. There is nothing wrong with good honest humor…just don’t hurt others in the process.
I have to say that you all are correct about Mr. Hughley. As some one who ACTUALLY knows him well, I have to admit that D.L. does hate black women and black people in general. He hates black women so much, he married one and raised two. He hates black people so much that he donated the most he could legally to Barack Obama’s campaign. You people are the most ignorant sector of blacks in this country. It is you with your fake trumpt up ’scandals’ that are what is wrong with black america. Because instead of focusing on real issues like poverty rates, illiteracy, obesity, and unfair laws which disproportionately affect black people, you are focusing all of your energy and attention on HATING. Lets call it what it is. You are the same people who hate that fact the Mr. Hughley has a show but trust that the minute it gets cancelled, God forbid, you will be the first people to blame CNN for racism. But then again what do I know. You guys could be right, D.L. is obviously the only thing standing between black people and true freedom from racism…. Right!!! He is a good man, and an amazing father to his three amazing and intelligent children. All three of who belong to proud black organizations such as Jack and Jill as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., But then again these are obvious signs that he hates black people. When did we lose our sense of humor? When did it become that we had to waste our energy fighting such little battles when there are much bigger ones ahead? I for one am ashamed of each and everyone of you. You are all the crabs in the barrel pulling other blacks down with you.
$20 to the reader that points out which of these comments were made by DL and which were made by family members.
You can pick them out by the same old trite hysterics that always get thrown out there. “Crabs in a barrel” Holding a black man down. He hands out turkeys at thanksgiving. Blah Blah Blah.
Welcome DL, family, friends, and fans ( all five of y’all).
It is good to know we are having an impact…. otherwise you wouldn’t be commenting on THIS BLOG.
Let me assure you, if we wanted to inflict a world of hurt on that tawdry little show, we could. Any. Time. We. Want.

Me: Yes, yes, yes….
The timing is suspicious.
I welcome the day when we (blacks) can see beyond the “entertainment” moment and start asking ourselves “why” is the same theme (blacks degrading other blacks) always being promoted — in particular, a week from the possible election of the first black president.
There’s something called “The Hegelian Principle”, which is, to put it simply, a con game that is used to create a false impression to deceive the population.
http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t42067.html
Here’s an example:
Louis Farakahn said in the 1980’s that Europe and america will promote the blacks as a potential market to sell their goods to and promote with them as images of what is cool to buy.
They have been doing this only to build them up as hero’s and high cultral peronalities on billboards, TV and government as part of the NWO plan. The end game being to use their elevated positions and increasing global unemployment with an increasing amount of subliminal racism to encourage away from the promoted admiration of blacks to an eventual envy of and dislike of blacks in the future.
Years later this program did take off and fascism has been increasing around the world against non european types. We only need a series of events to happen to trigger an acceleration of this plan. Farakahn was asking the blacks ‘what do you think they will do with you when they do not need you anymore?’
If you look at the media overkill of Obama, and the (great) potential for the economy to collapse soon after he takes office (if he is elected), you can see this principle at work.
Now, not only is the white public seeing massive doses of Obama, DL Hughley gets a TV show on CNN.
We must become more sophisticated thinkers. Nothing that is happening right now, be it the Obama phenomenon, or DL Hughley getting a show on CNN, is happening by accident.
This is all by design.
They know that blacks, as a group, usually fail to look beyond the obvious, despite our long history here of being fooled and misled. They think that WE think that we are on TV a lot because this is progress, when in reality, we are being set up to be the scapegoats for what is coming.
DL Hughley just adds another dimension, to solidly and neutralize the image of the intelligent BM (Obama) with the black male fool (DL Hughley).
And, as far as (some) BW seeing nothing wrong with eight black teenage girls being publicly demeaned first by a white man then by a so-called black comedian on national TV, never ceases to amaze me as a black man.
Ladies, to get respect, you have to respect yourself FIRST. Stop supporting movies and entertainers that make you the butt of “Norbit”, “Big Momma’s House 1 & 2″; singers that call you “bitch” and “ho”, and tell “Yo Momma” jokes.
No other race of female is ridiculed this way. I do not understand why this needs to be pointed out.
Or am i barking up the wrong pair of pantyhose?
(sorry about the long post)

ME: Brother, marrying a black woman does not qualify a BM for a gold medal. Plenty of men marry women and then proceed to beat them, cheat on them, and kill them. Do those men “love” women?
—
Ryan: “He hates black people so much that he donated the most he could legally to Barack Obama’s campaign.”
ME: Again, donating money (isn’t that maximum amount less than $100? lol) to Obama doesn’t mean you love blacks. I hope you’re not naive enough to believe that whites who support Obama suddenly love all black people. News flash: many celebrities give money or support causes for one of several reasons: it gives them a higher public profile, more publicity, tax write-offs, AND it hides the REAL dirt that they are doing to the people. The pros call that “public relations”.
Ryan: “It is you with your fake trumpt up ’scandals’ that are what is wrong with black america. Because instead of focusing on real issues like poverty rates, illiteracy, obesity, and unfair laws which disproportionately affect black people, you are focusing all of your energy and attention on HATING. Lets call it what it is.”
ME: No, my brother, it’s not called “hating”; it’s called respecting ourselves and holding these ignorant entertainers accountable for the damage they do to black people. Nobody hates a “loser” who is willing to be paid money just to do the white supremacists in the media’s work. You tell me the difference between these “chitlin” jokes of people like DL and David Alan Grier, and the old minstrel shows where blacks told the same jokes about black people. (do your research and you’ll see what i mean).
Ryan: “You are the same people who hate that fact the Mr. Hughley has a show but trust that the minute it gets cancelled, God forbid, you will be the first people to blame CNN for racism.”
ME: say what? Heck no, i will CELEBRATE. I know a good thing when i see it and trust me, the show won’t last much beyond the election. As a matter of fact that may be why it was created. The timing kinda makes you go hmm…
Ryan: “When did we lose our sense of humor? When did it become that we had to waste our energy fighting such little battles when there are much bigger ones ahead? I for one am ashamed of each and everyone of you. You are all the crabs in the barrel pulling other blacks down with you.”
ME: There’s a difference between having a sense of humor and NO SENSE AT ALL. We should be ashamed of what? For posting our opinion? For standing up for our black women? For not supporting a negro who demeaned eight young black girls on national TV in front of millions of white people?
Do you have a mother? Sisters? Aunts? A daughter? A wife? I do, and they’re all black females. I will never apologize for defending them. The problem is there are too many black males who are willing to look the other way when black females are degraded, and perhaps, their defense of other black males who do this, speaks more to THEIR OWN dislike of black women or some other sexual issues…
Believe me, the white man who runs the CNN network would NOT allow DL Hughley to succeed off the degradation of white women. Believe that.
One more thing.
Ryan: Are you a white person?
Boycott anyone or anything that insults Black people. It is as simple as that.
Two words, folks: Lou Dobbs.
Two more words: Bill Bennett.
CNN is in the ad sales business first and foremost.
D.L. Hughley is making folks laugh for money business. He is not a stupid man, nor ignorant for not having memorized the First Amendment.
As a former stand-up comedian myself, I found folks who resorted to misogynistic, racists and otherwise foul/insensitive jokes/material were, for the most part, lazy and uninspired.
I don’t disagree with the premise of the public shaming, but with comedians like D.L., the best offense is besting him on his own show.
Ultimately, his bread and butter will not be at the expense of Black women, it will be saying what most Americans are thinking, but have enough sense/discretion not to say out loud.
Our job — which Gina and others are valiantly already doing — is reminding these public figures that it is not worth the cost of messing with well organized, determined netizens who may expedite their obsolescence to their fickle corporate patrons.
Keep on keepin’ on, Gina & Co.!
“D.L. no matter what other have to say about your show”, I think it is funny”,but here is something worst talking about, O.K. Think about this for your next show,President-elect you know who I’m talking about,We have come a long way,we made it but look at the turmoil he has to clean up,o.k. I mean even in the white house we,us,you,me,it,the, dog, cat, and everyone will still have to clean,up. This is for all comedian.ha,ha.
i just look at it for what it is, black men, not all of them, but too many seem to have a serious problem with who they are, and the way to purge themselves of that is to demean the black woman. they can see whatever we want, that the majority of us are B’s and HOs and this and that, but if u look at certain black communities you will see the problem glaring you in the face.
a cross section of men that are cowards, afraid to to be men and hiding behind their women, abandoning their children and blaming it on everyone but .. themselves of course. im not speaking of all brothers of course, but 2 damn many. the whole world can see that, and thats a big part of why so many people don’t respect us, not saying that racism doesn’t exist!
i stay out of it, i k now who i am, and i carry myself as a decent woman, my being black is an integral part of my being but its not my whole life, i respect those who respect me
I would have hope with this proud moment in time we can all stick together but that have never been the case. We have to have the moral high ground, we have to uplift each other not degrade or agree with an open enemy of the black race. They are selling out guns shop because of this great president we have now. Did you ask where they get the guns in Columbine. Did you ask that little kid get the gun to kill his father’s girlfriend. Isn’t funny that no one ask this question because we know who supply them. THEIR PARENTS WHY because they are arming themselves against us FOOLS. Why do you think Rush is talking about they need to take back this country. WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE we are under attack. The republican are now blaming this economy on Single black mothers because somehow they are responsible for the mess we’re in. LETS LOVE EACH OTHER AND FOCUS ON WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THIS COUNTRY. WE ARE PEACEFUL FOLK AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT TO HIT US WITH. Those kids all got guns from their parents with training to use against us. The little boy had a kids shotgun made for him. It wasn’t suppose to be use on their own kind. That is why it is such a tragedy in Columbine. IF it was used for what it was intended to kill us then there would be no crime. THEY ARE TRAINING THEIR KIDS FOR THE NEXT CIVIL WAR, and what are we doing when we can’t even stick together behind a new First Family who have their act together. I have read these comments and is amazed that people are mentioning Oprah and Beyonce. Two sistas that at least have it all together and doing their own thing to NO WHITE MAN’S TUNE. THEY are setting the stage for us to follow because the only Tune the White Man Respect is the all mighty Dollar. Why do you think this country is going to H*LL because Wall Street on down only cares about the dollar. Question if you had all the money in the World then what? Will you be satisfied, answer me Bernie Madoff. The answer is NO because if your eating and the whole neighborhood is starving you will never find Peace. They will be at your door every minute trying to get what you got. We got to UPLIFT EACH OTHER AND SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER then we can defeat the enemy on common ground. UNITE WE STAND. PEACE
I am a woman I did not find DL comment offensive. He was making a joke off of Imus ladies grow up and get over it.
Can’t We, lets see you get over the same message when some stranger comes out and calls the women of your family ugly black hos. I am sick and tired of being told to accept this verbal abuse from idiotic women such as yourself, and mysoginistic black men.
I will continue to stand up for myself and other women, because I believe in women’s rights. Just yesterday I had to tell the security guard at my job to stop making comments of beating one of my co-workers. He found out her boyfriend hits on her, and he continually makes comments about causing harm to her person. Not only that but he even makes fun of her facial features or cracks on her dark skin. This is the type of male behavior made acceptable by women like you “Can’t We”, who seem to think as long as it doesn’t apply to me it is ok. It is not ok.
Both D.L. and Imus were in the wrong, and neither should be heard from period. It’s just that simple. Since they are being heard I have chosen to not listen to either one of them. I have also made it an issue to stand up to men and women who think it is funny and acceptable to downgrade black women. My mother is black and so are my sisters. My mother and my sisters are both natural women, as am I. Neither of us are nappy headed hos, and it is not something other black women and young girls need to hear.
I find it strange that there exists so much hatred for the very women who seem to be the only ones holding black communities together.
its funny to me how blk women claim were self hating if we call a blk woman ugly but if they call jayz or flavor flav ugly its different. get a grip he never called blk women ugly he said “those” women on the basketball team were ugly. and? i heard thousands more jokes about how ugly beyonce’s husband (jayz) is and its seen as perfectly acceptable but when usher’s wife was called ugly she had to blame it on the self hating black man’s perception of beauty? ” if i were mixed, latina or white they’d think i was beautiful” lmao hypocrites
