the waffles box wasn't from the McCain campaign. I honestly believe there should be a literacy and intelligence test before voting. some people believe anything.

obama is not black. he is african, arab, and caucasian.
the quote from gov. palin about dinosaurs is fake.
i have read so many lies from wannabe pundits on blogs who are repeated what they heard somewhere.

calling republicans "rethugs"? does nothing to advance debate and shows you have no grasp of the issues.

that's all

Well all the attention is on the economy now anyway, and if/when it shifts, I'd rather talk about Obama waffles than Sarah Palin (since the McCain camp said this election isn't about the issues, I'm sure they'll keep pushing her to the forefront to bank off her popularity). I think if the makers had not used racial imagery people would not be as angry about this. If they had used a picture or regular image of Obama, then I would buy their argument that it's just making fun of they way Obama waffles. Instead they have Obama in Muslim garb (something we all know he's denied being) and in stereotypical Mexican dress. I don't think it'd be so popular if it wasn't racist/controversial.

I haven't seen the McCain cartoon, but from the description of it, I don't think there's no outrage over it because he's a white male. I think there hasn't been much outrage because ageism is still acceptable. Ageism is more comparable to weightism, or discrimination against overweight individuals, than it is to sexism or racism. It's still okay to make jokes about fat people and old people. There never been much outrage over the fat jokes about Al Gore, Monica Lewinsky, Oprah, or Bill Clinton either. In a way, McCain can be grateful that old jokes are the only ones they can make. They'd really be raking him over the coals if he was fat.

I find it ironic that some of the same people who are outraged about the Obama waffles were unconcerned about the men who produced and sold Hillary Clinton nut crackers and T-shirts depicting Hillary Clinton in very sexist posing. This entire election cycle has illuminated the fact that both white people and black people in this country are racist and sexist and are trying to do better. Expecting for this election to be about "issues" is somewhat wishful thinking because for the first time in this country's history we have the dynamic of voting for a person of color or a woman, and November 4th will tell us which barrier this country is willing to breach first.

OOPS, somebody tried to get smart with another commenter and make a personal attack in the thread because someone had a different opinion and I ACCIDENTALLY hit the delete button. The next time it happens I might slip and label your comments as spam and if it happens again, who knows why may happen.

Stay on topic people. FYI you all are NOT the topic. Talk about the stupid waffles and world peace please.

Thank you very much,

The New Yorker was poking fun at critics who use racial stereotypes to distract from the issues.

The Dumb and Dumber brother were using racial stereotypes to distract from the issues.

Big Difference.

"What about the cartoons in the New Yorker (and other publications) that depict McCain as an old man in a nursing home- is that not ageism? Or is it deemed funny and acceptable because McCain is white?"

1- That was done by Vanity Fair not the New Yorker.

2- It was poking fun at the New Yorkers stance not McCain.

3- White had nothing to do with it since EVERY ONE GETS OLD.

Speaking of the McCain and even Alaska, check this out

<a href="http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/09/14/alaska-women-reject-palin-rally-is-huge/" rel="nofollow">Alaska Women Reject Palin’ Rally is HUGE!</a>

Check this Sunday rally in Alaska out. This rally was bigger than the pro-Palin rally, with more women! Video and photos included. Someone find their Myspace page or somethin! Get THOSE women on Oprah...

I said on another blog that I was gonna put a notice on my blog about a boycott against Books-A-Million because of their support of this foolishness, but really when you think about it, is this incident any really any less racist than all of the other incidents? I mean, come on. America is a very racist country. No one should be surprised by any of this. At the end of the day when it comes to the issues that need to be addressed, is it really that crucial. While we're sitting here arguing about this, the obama waffles people are making a quick buck and the economy is going in the tank.

@J.Adia:
Yep, shows the world view alright. It must be nice to be able to "not think about" how your product might be interpreted and see it as "just jokes".

Must be nice. (This user gazes into the distance, while his ancestors cry)
