Hurricane Ike Open Thread

My family is accounted for and in the end that’s all that matters. Oh yeah, fuel up(if you can find gas), 25% of the nation’s refinery capacity may be underwater this time tomorrow. I was born and raised in the shadow of oil refineries, they aren’t on high ground. Be safe.

I am so sorry. I pray that you are your family are safe.

I hope this hurricane passes/weakens with little to no damage and that the families in Texas are safe as well.

The gas stations have already begun the price gouging. CNN is reporting prices of five dollars per gallon. It is disgusting that once again companies are seeking to profit from tragedy. They said some states experienced a 40 cent increase over night. I fear for the poor in this time of crises.

The last I heard a few hours ago that it was now a tropical storm. Our church prayed Wednesday that the storm would weaken and that there would be little damage and no loss of life.

In OK it is illegal for businesses to raise prices more than 10% during a major catastrophe. In December 2007 we had a horrible ice storm that knocked out power for almost a week. Just about every transformer in the Tulsa area blew out. The entire state was affected but it hit Tulsa more. One gas station around the corner raised their gas prices I think 25% (.60 a gallon). They were convicted and fined thousands of dollars. The owner was facing a year in prison. Needless to say when that came out in the paper that was my last time getting gas there. I happened to be staying in another part of town at the time so I was not subjected to that madness.

May all people be safe and that the storm completely dies down.

I pray for all of the families touched by this hurricane/tropical storm.
Gas is crazy! I bet car pooling is looking better and better.

Prayers sent your way. Just catching up on post storm news, and things don’t look pretty.

There has been price gouging in my area as well. This is ridiculous. Some are charging over 5.00 a gallon for regular.

Here’s to hoping that everyone in the area made it out safe and that things will be done differently this time around (if you know what I mean).

I hope you are safe! Gas haven’t really affect us. It probably rose 10 cents but that’s it. I can still get gas for the pre-Ike price, about $3.40 or $3.50. They said if Ike did effect the oil, then we had enough oil for at least 20 days so there was no need to raise prices. Thank goodness we didn’t have to suffer 4 or 5 dollars a gallon lol.

Miss me? I’m in Houston and I just got electricity and internet access. Pretty rough week but I survived, though I now need a new back fence.
