Y’allz Boy Kwame Kilpatrick Career Kryptonite for Black Women— ALMOST Brings Down His Mama

“Pull us from the water when it is clear we are drowning and then after you are sure we’ve recovered taking us back down to the river and tossing us in and saying “Um don’t you think its about time you learned how to swim on your own because I’m not always gone be here to rescue you!” *splash*” Gina on a Mother’s Love

First there was Carlita, then Christine, now add Carolyn to the list of Black women who’ve been singed by the uncontrollable lustful urges of Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick.

Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, a seven-term incumbent, found herself fighting for her political life. Why? Because of the uncontrollable lustful desires of her fully grown son:

Early results Tuesday showed the six-term congresswoman trailing both her opponents, but as the night wore on and more Detroit numbers came in, she pulled even and then slightly ahead of former state Rep. Mary Waters at around midnight.

With all precincts reporting, Kilpatrick had 20,888 votes, or 39.1% and Waters had 19,183 votes, or 36%. State Sen. Martha Scott was in third place with 13,280 votes, or 24.9%, according to the Associated Press. FREEP

In a three way race yesterday, she won by 1,700 votes in a race that should not have even been close for a seven term incumbent. Mama K had over a half a million dollars, her closest challenger had $10,000 and if this had not been a three way race, it would have been lights out.

I had an occasion to meet Mama Kilpatrick at an event I was asked to speak at. It was an event with a bunch of rich Black women, many of whom were not all that warm and cuddly towards the fire breathing blogtavist, but Mama Kilpatrick was one of the nicest people I met that weekend. No strike that, she was the nicest. And no, it wasn’t the politician thing because I sat at a table with another Black Congresswoman and she wasn’t warm and fuzzy at all. AT. ALL. If it wasn’t for enabling her fully grown son and his massive lapses in ethical behavior and judgement, I really don’t have a bad thing to say about the woman. I don’t live in her district.

So far Kwame has taken out Christine Beatty. Now his Mama barely holds on to her job, and yet he still keeps his job despite new allegations that he shoved sheriff’s deputies who were attempting to serve a subpoena on one of his friends.

Jim Thomas, the mayor’s lawyer, said Kilpatrick merely told a process server that Ferguson was not there and asked him to leave.“He gently took him by the arm and escorted him off the porch,” Thomas said, adding that Ayanna is married to Ferguson’s cousin, Daniel Ferguson.Thomas said he did not know why Kilpatrick did not ask his police bodyguards, who were with him, to handle the matter. FREEP

In WHAT world do you lay hands on a uniformed peace officer and escort them anywhere? Somebody reminded me that both Kwame Kilpatrick and Barack Obama gave speeches at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Wow how quickly their paths diverged.

Ladies remember this, don’t sacrifice your marriage, your life, or your career for an untrustworthy, undisciplined man or you will end up like all of the women in Kwame Kilpatick’s life— Left OUT THERE while he is chillaxin in the Mayor’s mansion.

I know about a Mother’s love and whatnot, the fact that no matter what you do in life, you’ll always have your Mama, but part of being a parent is letting your kids go through the fire on their own. At a certain point, its not your job to keep us from getting burned, only to help bandage a few wounds. Or better yet, pull us from the water when it is clear we are drowning and then after you are sure we’ve recovered taking us back down to the river and tossing us in and saying “Um don’t you think its about time you learned how to swim on your own because I’m not always gone be here to rescue you!” *splash*

On a side note, I about fell out when I read this:

11:15pm, Mary Waters has joined her supporters at Fuddruckers on East Jefferson Avenue. Her supporters are wearing their Mary Waters for Congress t-shirts and keeping a close eye on the results. WXYZ

So that’s how y’all roll Detroit? Fuddruckers on East Jefferson is the spot. What? Y’all didn’t have any hotel ballrooms available? Did she at least pick up the fries?

PS, Y’alls is spelled Y’all’s or Y’allz not “Yaws” its “Y’all’s Boy” not “Yaw’s”

Thank you for your comments from a woman/daughter point of view. I enjoy your blog. I linked to this post on my blog, “The “D” Spot Redeux, and invite you to read my post about NOT putting the “sins” of the son on the mother…http://thedspotredeux.blogspot.com/2008/08/guilt-by-association-totally.html

Gina,
You know you gotta be ride or die,you gotta support a brotha. Thats why they run to the white women. Just kidding :)
I agree w/ your post, and look at all the women who continue to support these type of men and they ain’t they mamma or have a wedding ring on their finger.

That’s how she pronounced it! I didn’t hear one “L.”

#4 BLKSeaGoat on 08.06.08 at 8:35 am

Carlita had a job? What was it? To marry into the ghetto and chitlin’ eatin’ negro version of the Kennedys?

Methinks that my original impression that Day-Twat is the mecca for chitlin’ eatin’ negroes remains unchanged.

Hey Gina — interesting analysis. You know there are double standards abound in politics let alone the black community. Detroit and the Kwame chronicles are a mess–it’s unfortunate. I really wish he resigned and give the people closest to him (surprise women) a modicum of peace and sanity.

@blkseagoat: the kind of negative stereotyping of Detroiters and unnecessary type of “Black-speak” is exactly what I’m fighting with my blog. Everyone who lives and works in Detroit is not like the Mayor; just as every Black person in America is not like the Steppin’ Fetchit or Mammy stereotypes.

As an educated, open-minded, proud Black Woman, wife of an educated, open-minded, proud Black Man, mother of two grown daughters and a grown son, and native Detroiter, I would encourage you to find out about the REAL Detroit…

Thank you.

Maybe I missed something here, but how exactly did Kwame ruin Christine Beatty’s life? I didn’t read any allegations of sexual assault here, which tells me she was a more than willing participant in this tryst. Let’s not forget, she was also married at the time.

I understand the impulse to blame Kilpatrick for this, he is after all the mayor, and this cost the fine folks of Detroit at least $9M in unnecessary funds.

But come on, how the ham sammich is a woman who exercised equally poor judgement in creeping on her own spouse a VICTIM!?!? Enough of the hyperbole.

Beatty’s ex-husband is a victim.

Kilpatrick’s mom and soon to be ex-wife are victims. Codependent and enabling victims, yes, but still victims.

Christine Beatty ain’t no victim. Christine Beatty is an adultress.

Keep it real, Gina.

#8 Pam on 08.06.08 at 12:22 pm

@averagebro:

Exactly! To see and hear Ms. Beatty boo-hooing about not being able to leave to see her children and/or look for another job after they were caught…contrasted with her “why are you bothering me” attitude during the trial…it was not pretty. My response: you should have thought about all of that BEFORE you had a years-long affair with a married man…and you a married woman…

Boy those CBC members are gonna have it rough the next election cycle. And it could’ve have happened to more deserving people!

#10 BLKSeaGoat on 08.06.08 at 2:25 pm

Pam,

I have seen the real Detroit and unfortunately, your creme de la creme, even outside of the Mayor’s shenanigans, still loses in my book.

It’s no shade, but flee your city because you can’t change years of depravity, corruption and lawlessness. Ther is absolutely nothing to be proud about in Day-Twat.

#11 Pam on 08.06.08 at 3:11 pm

@blkseagoat:
You may keep your negative comments…you can’t please all of the people all of the time.
Contrary to your opinion, there is NOT depravity in Detroit–economic depression because of the economy–yes, but depravity, no. Just because some of the “leaders” today are in the news for wrongdoings, that does NOT equal years of corruption, any more than the corruption anywhere else. This is NOT the “Old West”, there is NOT lawlessness in the streets…murders and other crimes, yes, like most other places all throughout time–Chicago in the 30s comes to mind; and most of all…the name of my City is “Detroit”, not Da-twat. I am NOT a “twat”; neither is my 84-year-old mother; neither was my grandmother; neither are my daughters–one an internationally known award-winning writer, the other in medical school; neither are 99% of the women in Detroit…just because one person in the current administration was involved in a public affair.

Detroit is not a cesspool; and I’m not going to “flee”…that’s what cowards do…you teach the young people, you work with your neighbors, you make things better step-by-step, and you “throw the bums out” and move on and move up to make things better. My husband and I own a beautiful 95-year-old 3,000 sq.ft historic home in an historic district; I belong to a fantastic church; I have wonderful friends and family; there is more to do and see than I have time for; I love to take my laptop and just sit at the River and work while I watch the ships glide by and people/families of all kinds walking or biking or just chilling with their dogs and kids…go to the new downtown “town square” for free concerts at lunch with the free wi-fi…Detroit has had, in those same last few years you are talking about, more new home permits and businesses moving in than in the previous 50 years put together; and all of those people and business owners large and small aren’t “twats” either. Besides, the Mayor will be removed from office within the month by the Governor…and we’ll all move on.

So wherever you live, stay there…I’m sure it is Utopia…perfect without a blemish or a stain.

Plenty to be proud and excited about in Detroit!

@blkseagoat,

I know you might think Pam is provoking you, but please remember that this was her first day on the blog I think so that should qualify for special dispensation from the response I KNOW you are going to give her when you read this. I am kindly asking you to move on lest I have to delete the WHOLE thread when y’all take this to defcon 2

@averagebro,

I see you want my attention, well tomorrow’s post is going to be all up in your honor for writing the LIE that I have EVER called Christine beatty a victim. You know I haven’t the point is that Humpty Dumpty still has his dayum job as is the case when men and women engage in the same sexual and moral impropriety, the woman gets stoned and the man gets coddled…typically by the women around him.

#13 g-e-m2001 on 08.06.08 at 6:30 pm

@Pam,

Um history is replete with folks who didn’t get out while they could and perished as a result. 75% of your high school students ain’t graduating on time, um it would be about NOW that I would be packing up my bags.

Its not Fleeing if you have a plan, it is called “relocating” and a whole lot of Black folks from the south relocated to Detroit about 50 to 60 years ago seeking work. Ain’t nothing wrong with relocating again.

#14 Pam on 08.06.08 at 6:44 pm

Gina: If I did anything to bring down your comments section, I apologize.
However, I strongly feel that painting everyone in Detroit with the same brush and calling us “lawless chitlin’ eating negroes” and “twats” is akin to what’s-his-name calling the Rutgers ladies “nappy-headed hoes”…

The whole point of my blog is to fight these uncalled for smears from white and black alike.

The whole point of my original post last Friday about CC Kilpatrick was for people to not “punish” her for the sins of her son.

The sad thing is Black people using these smears against Black people.

Every city has its good points and bad points; and every family has its “white sheep”, albeit usually not so public and affecting so many other people.

I am through with this thread now, also…I just started my writing/blogging business the 1st week of July and already have almost more work than I can handle.

I already know that my link to your blog has sent you some referrals; my husband noticed it when he checked our analytics.

Thank you, and I hope that you and I, as sister bloggers, can keep the discourse up where it should be. All-encompassing smears and name-calling are totally unnecessary.

Oh God Pam, don’t be thin skinned. I don’t do hand holdingin the comments, if you are bold enough to wade into the deep end of the pool, ten you had better be able to swim. Everybody’s a grown up. Don’t ever think any one commenter has the power to bring my comments DOWN BAH!

I was merely addressing Blkseagoat before he tore you a new one as he is prone to do on occasion. You are far too green to know you were in the deep end of the pool, so I was attempting to head off trouble.

I hate passive agressivism and clingyness or people who think my world or the comments revolve around them. Hence my number one rule is “If you get mad/ hurt/ offended and stop commenting or visiting, don’t let me know” No one commenter is that important. Believe me there will be droves to replace the disaffected.

now I am mad I even had to pause to write this. Nobody on this blog pays your bills. You shouldn’t really care all that much. move on.

#16 BLKSeaGoat on 08.06.08 at 7:19 pm

Gina,

Duly noted. I think at some point I made a promise to myself to use my own blog for personal eviserations.

I’m glad you had the exper.ience you had with Mama K.

In any case, I’ll write a post about this as well.

#17 Pam on 08.07.08 at 2:09 am

Oh I’m not being thin-skinned; and I really didn’t take it personally…it’s the attitude that people thiink the way to either vent or solve problems is to use language that is unnecessary…but…on my way to the gym…

#18 BLKSeaGoat on 08.07.08 at 8:20 am

In true Chitlin’ Eatin’ and Day-Twat fashion, a Judge has ordered Chitlin’ Eatin Negro Extraordinaire, JAILED!!!

This is worse than one of those D-listed all-black shows on UPN, CW, BET or TV one.

#19 arthur on 08.07.08 at 8:40 am

I once worked for a company that was kind of in trouble, so I lined up another job and turned in my notice. My boss understood, and even told me a little joke:

“What do you call the rats that leave the sinking ship?”

I shook my head.

“Survivors.”
