I am a proud, Black Democrat was IS voting for Obama this year. He IS Dr. king's dream and will get America back on track when he's elected as president. Plus, he is NOT a socialist. He defines ANYONE who calls him that. Those SELLOUTS (yep, I said it) need to shut up!

If the South had won the War, How many Slaves do You think Bill and Hillary Clinton would Own? Certainly MLK.jr
would never been allowed to start a Civil rights movement "God Bless Him!"
Demo-Socialist or better known as Democrats, would still have The Blackas in Cotton fields, Not Major Black Universities STARTED by Republicans.
Name ONE Black American University started by a Democrat.
P.S.
Don't Drink The Kool-Aid, Not one single Socialist Government has been a Success. It's The Height of Hypocracy to think that ANY White Southern Democrat,
wouldn't be Owning Slaves today, IF the Republicans Did'nt Stand in Their WAY!

LOL ridiculous.

Someone beat me to it.

The 50's and 60's was a transition period for Blacks regarding Party affiliation, voting behavior, etc. They seemed to drift more towards the Dems in the late 60's-70's.... spurred by the Civil Rights Act of 64... & the Voting Rights Act the next year. Before that... they took notice of Roosevelt and Truman (with the small gestures they took as President). That may have been the first time that Blacks really started taking notice of the Dems.

The ideals of the two parties seemed to switch... Republicans had been seen as the Party of Progress... while the Democrats (often called the DixieCrats back then for good reason) were more tied to Southern tradition, Conservatism, racial intolerance, racial politics in the South, etc. In Fact, Strom Thurmond started off as a Democrat and was a Southern Segregationist at the time....and later switched to the Republican Party. This switch in Party ideals changed in the late 50's- 60's. The Dems would be seen as the Party of Progress...Party for more equality.... (as well as the Party for workers, etc).... and the Rethugs became the Party of Tradition, racial intolerance, etc. This was one of the most interesting phenomenons in American politics in the last Century.

They (Black RepubliCONS) love to claim MLK when it's convenient....as in this case.

MLK was a Progressive to the bone. Clear from all of his writings, speeches, and sermons.

All these folks know (and the speech they love to site) is the "I Have A Dream" speech. This actually represented a small slice of King....and it was not even his best speech. Best known, yes... but not his best speech.

I'm annoyed by the way that his life has been condensed to this one speech.
On MLK day I make a point not to listen/watch the constant loops of "I HAve A Dream".... because it drives me nuts. They have almost successfully turned MLK into a cartoon character.... the safe Black man who fought for Civil Rights. The "I Have a Dream" guy. This is pretty much the lesson that youngsters are taught in most public schools (Black and White).

The Black Republican Association are obviously not familiar with MLK at all. They need to study more than just what his registration says.

I don't have a problem believing MLK was a republican. After all, it's just a category of party affiliation.

What I do not believe is that MLK believed what the Republican party seems to support today. Yes, as a pastor, it's not surprising that he would be pro-life, but I doubt seriously he would be interested in big business, and big tax cuts for big businesses.

Personally, I don't believe either party truly has my best interests at heart. Many of these people have their own agendas, which is why they're often millionaires by the time they leave an office which is supposed to be about public "service".

Instead they get sweet deals that serve only themselves and their true constituents (lobbyists & the special interest groups that yell the loudest, and work the hardest to put them out of office if they don't perform for them), and if they get a minute... they may vote on something that's really relevant to the majority of Americans.

Wait a minute, aren't these guys on the same side as the people who assert that Dr. King was a philanderer who loved the white ladies and a communist? So, which is it?

It's just a big old spoon stirring more crapola. I firmly count it along with the other wingnuttery I've seen floating around lately.

Sorry, for all the typos. I was just thinking, a queen doesn't need a running mate. I'll simply use the royal, "We".

"We" appreciate your article, Gina. I know it wasn't meant necessarily to stimulate a conversation on abortion, but "We" found it necessary to comment.

(Whew, this royal, "Weing" takes a lot of work!)

I enjoyed your show last night. Thanks for keeping me (darn it) "Us" informed.

Sincerely,

“Yme - Queen of The Interfering, Moralizing, Holier Than Thou Busy Bodies”.

And, ya best believe I'll be raising taxes.

What are the "likes" of me?

I didn't say Roe versus Wade was the beginning of abortions. The ground swell that arrived with Roe versus Wade lulled us into helping us convince young women around us that life was going to be easier and that they could keep moving...just abort the baby. But, for my friends, life didn't get easier.

They now have health issues related to abortions, guilt that they can't shake, and other problems. I have friends that even came clost to having abortions (sitting in the clinic) and changed their minds, who years later, are so thankful they can barely express themselves. Because, they were at such a low point in their lives when they were wrestling with the decision. And,yet, somehow they made it. They don't how. They don't really know when...life didn't get easier, it really did get harder, but in the end they're grateful.

Women have abortions for many reason (health related) and otherwise. For most, this is one of the toughest decisions they'll ever face. But, I'm sorry. My issue is with the number of abortions and the effect they have our community (the black community) and black women. If that means I'm interfering. If I means I'm a holier than thou busy body...okay. If it means one more young black woman has the opportunity to later cheer her black sons & daughters and tell them of their combined struggle as the pursue a legacy together...I guess I can live with that.

I now pronounce myself "Yme - Queen of The Interfering, Moralizing, Holier Than Thou Busy Bodies". I'll announce my running mate, later this week. I'll wait until McCain's speech, though, so I can steal his thunder.

@Yme,

Long before Roe vs. Wade women were aborting pregnancies. (Regardless, if you, and the likes of you, can get Roe vs. Wade overturned, it will not stop women from aborting pregnancies.) In some cultures, a woman knew, would learn, what herbes to take that would induce the uterus to contract and cause her body to miscarry the baby. If the herbes proved unsuccessful, then she would try to find a way to enter her uterus to have the embryo removed. If those methods were unsuccessful, then shortly after the baby's birth she would kill it--usually by smothering. Often, babies who were born with mental or physical deformities/problems were killed shortly after birth. In some cultures, today, that practice continues, for a such a baby is too much of a burden on the woman, on the family.

Roe vs. Wade was not, is not, about a woman's right to choose to have an abortion, but a woman's right to privacy. The right to do with her body what she wishes without the interference of moralizing, holier-than-thou, busy-bodies.
