Daymon Wayans Thinks Violently Attacking Black Pregnant Teens is Funny: "Abortion Man"

We’ve already covered the fact that Damon Wayans is contemptuous of Black women. But just when you think he could not have sunk to the lowest of the low, he pulls out a shovel and starts digging “I can go lower! I can go lower!” See the magnitude of the Black woman hate in his latest offering on his YouTube Channel called “Abortion Man”

In the clip a young teenage girl calls her boyfriend to announce she is pregnant. After he belies her fear that he is angry, she expresses her happiness about the prospect of having a baby. Immediately after hanging up the phone with his girlfriend, the boyfriend sticks his head out the window and calls for help from Abortion Man, a “super hero’ with his chest emblazoned with a baby with a red line drawn through it. Abortion Man then goes to accost the teen girl as she is walking on a sidewalk. He calls her a “fein” and then ‘ punches and knees her in her stomach. She falls to the ground where he stumps on her stomach and a bloody baby flies out of her womb.

Abortion Man is touted as the solution to one of man’s most daunting fears. Really? Brutalizing pregnant women is a solution? Just for some perspective:

According to the CDC, black women have a maternal homicide risk about seven times that of white women. Black women ages 25-29 are about 11 times more likely as white women in that age group to be murdered while pregnant or in the year after childbirth. CBS News

“Abortion Man” is a burning cross. Its hate imagery that would make Joseph Goebbels proud. That isn’t even addressing a slander on Black men.

Unlike his video for “Sniggers” a candy bar shaped like a Black male penis, YouTube has placed no age restriction on “Abortion Man.” Kids apparently need to be protected from candy penises, but no such age controls are needed when you depict a violent attack on a pregnant Black girls.

By the way, Toyota is running ads on the WayOutTV YouTube Page. All you Black folks rolling around in Camrys are supporting this foolishness right here.

Where are the black folks creating content that is funny without having to rely being hateful towards Black women and girls? They have to be out there.

Watch his idiotic comments on The View in support of Don Imus:

Hold up. Is that his son playing Abortion Man? *SMFH* What’s with this UNfunny negro?

His comments on The View were beyond stupid. I especially hated his comments about women losing their “fundamentals.” Working women aren’t afforded the adequate time to be “fundamental.”

And far too many men want the women in their lives to be an extension of their moms and they don’t wanna pay the cost to be the boss. But let’s just forget about that problem.

I feel so lucky to have a man in my life that isn’t some sexist jackass.

#2 brotherkomrade on 04.22.08 at 6:36 am

This is the dumbest, sickest sh*t I have ever seen. I have a sick sense of humor, but not like that. First, there’s the political context of this video; the girl 9is the criminal for only “getting herself” pregnant, but is committing the crime of wanting to keep the baby therefore “trapping” our young industrious stand up black prince playing his stupid video game. He is not accountable for anything, but the only action he’ll take is calling a pyscho to stomp a baby out of the woman. Where was his action in wearing a condom? I know this is fictional, but it is the political or social context that is real in real time.

#3 Anonymiss on 04.22.08 at 6:42 am

BrotherKomrade,

There’s no value in equal responsibility. For years, it’s always been the girl’s or her parents’ problem. This is exactly what has always been wrong with parenting — teaching girls to bear all the responsibility while allowing boys to walk away with a clean slate.

What is the best way to contact Toyota about this issue?

O-M-G. I really wish someone who thinks this is funny explain what is so funny about it.

And the size of the fetus? O-M-G!

#7 BLKSeaGoat on 04.22.08 at 9:01 am

I saw this on the happy go luck bachelor’s blog and I didn’t find it funny at all.

What I’m more pissed about is the promotion of unprotected sex in an era where blacks are several times more likely to contract STIs than any other racial group.

I still don’t get it. We can have resources, money, information, education, etc. and folks are still rank pregancy as the WORST outcome of casual unprotected sex.

My view about abortion is that people should have the right to them, especially if they aren’t ready for children. However, if the “brotha” wasn’t preoccupied with getting the young lady pregnant during intercourse, then he shouldn’t be pissed when she called to inform him of the new bastard he helped to create.

I am so sick of black men and women treating procreation as a damn afterthought. If you are going to be fertile and sexually active be ready to have children. Get prepared to rear them and STOP viewing them as a damn CONSEQUENCE!

I am outraged at this video, its lack of anything remotely funny, its crimilization of the black woman, and its apologist attitude towards a sexually active but equally irresponsible younng black male.

Is male virtue supposed to be wrong? Can we actually raise the bar to expect black boys to be something other than a hypersexual, genital-controlled, squrrels always on the hunt for the next nut?

Hell, I’m gay and even I didn’t have sex until I was 23—- and I come form a pretty liberal and free-thinking family!

#8 AverageBro on 04.22.08 at 9:07 am

Let’s look at the bright side: If Wayans’ career is on the skids to the extent that he’s doing viral videos, isn’t that already a win/validation of some sort?

Drumming up publicity for him by boycotting Toyota is only going to gain the guy more notoriety.

Let him wallow in obscurity on the web, don’t help him get back on TV.

#9 SheCodes on 04.22.08 at 10:12 am

I disagree with ignoring him. Ignoring misogynistic behavior has never improved the situation for women, whether it was by joe schmoe on the street or by a big celebrity.

We will be talking about raciomisogyny in our podcast and I will definitely bring this up. Thank you Gina!

#10 La ~ msviswan on 04.22.08 at 11:37 am

Ok, so where’s the “Zipper Man”?

“I am outraged at this video, its lack of anything remotely funny, its crimilization of the black woman, and its apologist attitude towards a sexually active but equally irresponsible younng black male.

Thank you Blkseagoat. I’m also pro rights, but I can’t stand that afterthought epidemic either. And please do Shecodes, you’re right. In most cases silence never helps, it enables.

Btw, Should I contact those Anti Abortion Activist to help do something about this violent video? Then again why bother, it’s a black female and a black embryo being attacked. This is sad reality, and therefore I am not ignoring anything.

#11 Zabeth on 04.22.08 at 11:45 am

Hey All!

It’s been minute.

I couldn’t watch all of the video as its just WAAAAAAAAAAAY to sick.

I agree with Shecodes, I think that you can’t ignore ignorant imagery like this. The fact that he feels comfortable enough to broadcast this at all shows that BW aren’t protected…AT ALL. Moreover, this is a slander of BM implying that BM can’t handle responsibility and always want to take the easy way out. I don’t know if Wayans took that into consideration when he made this video.

BUT I ALSO AGREE with Averagebro. I think people do put these things out there to be controversial on purpose. And I think BW hating BM want to perpetuate animosity between BW and BM; some of the commentors on the YouTube bored made note of that as well. So there is reason to ignore and not draw attention to the likes of Damon Wayans.

#12 Zabeth on 04.22.08 at 11:46 am

@ LA,

It might actually be a good idea to reach out to Pro-Lifers.

#13 blackwomenblowthetrumpet.blogspot.com on 04.22.08 at 11:50 am

This is outrageous!

Black women HAVE to step up and start demanding change. We can’t just let it slide. NO MORE.

It’s over for being silent and seething to one another. We need to let it be known there WILL be a price to pay when we are belittled, disrespected, demeaned or dismissed!

Thanks for letting me blow my trumpet!

OMG. This is beyond unbelievable. I am going to get on this, this is one that we can’t let go un challenged.

#15 DJ Black Adam on 04.22.08 at 12:09 pm

Toyota huh…I’ll start there…

#16 AverageBro on 04.22.08 at 1:37 pm

Come on ya’ll, the ONLY reason Wayans would do something so crass is because he’s so completely irrelevant right now. His past couple of projects (The Underground, Marci X, etc.) have tanked. His admittedly overrated family name can’t even get him a sniff of network/cable TV interest.

So what does he do? Go viral, and put up this sorta ignant’ sh*t to try and annoy just enough people to talk about him, in hopes that he’ll get another chance to make another bad show. After all, if nobody’s talking about you, you don’t matter.

Let’s not forget this is the same Damon Wayans who wanted to trademark the “N” world and open a Nigga-themed amusement park in Oakland a few years ago.

No, seriously.

http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2006/02/70259

http://www.whudat.com/newsblurbs/more/the_wayans_brothers_back_on_track_for_theme_park_1680710071/

Do this man, and yourselves a favor. Ignore this ignorance and it will go away.

If you guys have an excess of energy and want to do something proactive that makes a difference in the next generation, go sign up to tutor or coach softball or something/anything that involves actually TOUCHING a real person’s life, rather than reactively putting out cyber-fires every other week. Because trust me, there will be another Damon Wayans two weeks from now, just like there was one two weeks ago.

But trying to attack the problem by using the same tired solutions isn’t gonna fix anything. Isn’t this whole offense/reaction model of activism the very same stuff we accuse the outdated CRIC of?

I’m just sayin’.

#17 ZACK on 04.22.08 at 2:36 pm

Gayman Wayans has done it again. He’s always been an obvious switch hitter (in my honest opinion).

He’s always degrading women, but at the same time doing sexually ambiguous things with men on his shows. It’s like he’s a gay guy playing a straight guy in real life.

I co-sign on Average Bro. Gayman Sr. & Gayman Jr. are just doing this for attention. It’s been almost 15 years since their family has done anything remotely funny.

He and his son probably like boys. I thought my family had problems, but their whole family is CORNY.

GREAT POST! I was led here from DJ Black Adam.

#18 JustATest on 04.22.08 at 2:55 pm

Averagebro,

And exactly how do you know that the women bloggers don’t act proactively (softball coaching, and what have you?)

It is not wrong to be reactive, only exclusively reactive. We are angry about the promotion of violence against black women on all fronts and none of it should go unanswered.

Your solution makes no sense. If the people who know better ignore this garbage, and the people who DON’T know better eat it up, how is that helping the situation?

Are you saying that if David Duke put out a viral video on how to lynch a black man, that everybody should ignore it because he is old news? Hmph. I didn’t think so.

#19 BLKSeaGoat on 04.22.08 at 3:17 pm

Zack,

As a gay man, I have to take issue with your assumption that being homosexual means that I’m a misogynist.

As a matter of fact, black gay men (at least the ones I know and practically every one I’ve come into contact with) adore women, chide men for mistreating them, and are typically the first ones ready to clown at that drop of a dime if some dude thinks he has the right to use a woman has his personal punching bag.

You’re generalizing and sounding completely ignorant even if you are trying to explain WHY Damon Wayans did what he did. The video was horrible, but your analysis of it and Damon’s actions was abysmally inadequate.

Sexual/Gender ambiguity has VERY little to do with hatred of the gender or sexual identity one seeks to escape, but that’s another conversation.

In my experience, people who are so quick to label someone as gay for any reason, without first hand knowledge, are masking their own latent homosexual tendencies they wish to act upon.

Just food for thought.

#20 New Black Woman on 04.22.08 at 3:42 pm

So, along with D.L. Hughley, Damon Wayans has been added to my Burn in Hell list.

#21 g-e-m2001 on 04.22.08 at 3:53 pm

@blkseagoat- thanks for speaking up to rebut the whole gay=woman hating. What the heck does that have to do with Damon Wayans being an arse? WAOD loves the BlkSeaGoat because if I recall you were the one taking to the streets of DC to confront Rev. Al over dunbar Village and I believe your comrades that day were all sisters.

@Avg Bro- I hear what you are saying, but I had to wade through the glaring generalizations. First, don’t compare blogging to the NAACP. the NAACP has been around since Moses, blogs have been around less than five years. This blog has been around for one year and three days. Most movements are STARTED in REACTION to something so I have to cosign the person that said that there is nothign wrong with reacting to things you don’t like. Or is the first amendment reserved ONLY for those who get to promote their woman hatred. Second, don’t assume that the only advocacy people engage in is on the internet. Most of the people who email me are already engaged in their own causes off line. By its very nature, a blog is about expressing thoughts ideas and believe and utilizing online tools. I am assuming you want people to mentor these kids in person as opposed to being MySpace buddies.

I have moved beyond people who tell me that I ought to be doing X instead of Y. There is nothing stopping you from doing Y. In fact, you can do X and Y and Z and A and B and C. I reject the notion that advocacy is a zero sum game and if you are fighting the battle on one front, you are barred from fighting the battle on any other front. You may be good at being a mentor. Somebody else may be good at fundraising. If you want to use this blog ot the podcast to highlight some programs you want to become involved in, then send an email and we can do a post/show about it.

To his points regarding giving/ not giving Wayans attention. People are going to arrive at their own strategies, but I will share this experience as it related to my campaign against DL Hughley last year. In the end, the person who had reporters calling me was actually DL Hughley’s publicist. She was calling up newspapers or having the comedy clubs calling up news people telling them I was protesting him. He even encorporated his attack on the Rutgers basketball team into the advertising for his tour. he ended up in sister to Sister, Essence , on news stations and newspapers, including our dueling interviews in the Onion.

So in the end, our protest actually raised the profile of his wretched comedy tour and got him mentioned in publications that otherwise would have ignored him.

So Avgbro brings up a salient point although you have to wade through the sanctimony to get to it.

That does not mean there should be no response. That means that everything you do to cause Wayans any semblance of distress does not have to be shouted at the top of your lungs. You don’t need to send out a press release necessarily and whatever the response figure out what you are getting out of it other than letting Damon know you are ticked with him.

perhaps it will bein the form of Youtube responses to raise awareness about violence against pregnant black women.

Perhaps it will mean coordinating with pro life organizations to cause YouTube heart burn by making them have to pull each and every advertiser from Wayans page. It certainly wont make Toyota happy to know that they have their ads runnning on somethign called abortion man and it certainly won’t make the sales staff at youtube look too bright.

You now know thisis out there so the question is how do we REACT to it. Nothing wrong with reacting.

I wish the world would react to alot of stuff.

#22 Ananda on 04.22.08 at 5:11 pm

thanks for the info. i watched the video and couldn’t believe what i was seeing.

#23 clnmike on 04.22.08 at 6:23 pm

Funny thing is when I first saw the video I wasnt moved by it one way or the other. It sure wasnt funny but I did not find it offensive. I recognized it as a piss poor gag, by a desperate comedian. Comedians by nature offend somebody. If this was done by a woman there would be a different slant to this that would most likely offend men.
I just file it in not being funny.

#24 DJ Black Adam on 04.22.08 at 7:05 pm

Damon Wayans, gay or not, he DEFINATELY is a Black Woman hater, and the two are not interchangeble terms, being gay isn’t synonomous with Black woman hatred.

@clnmike:

You wrote:

“Comedians by nature offend somebody.”

This goes beyond “offense”. DW needs a good old fashioned Marine Corps beat down.

Ew. Damon Wayans is such a loser.

#28 La ~ msviswan on 04.23.08 at 5:47 pm

Sorry to change the subject.

Gem.. Did you get a chance to watch Oprah tonight (depending on area)?

CBS primetime “What would you do” did an experiment segment on the Oprah show. One of the hidden camera scenarios showed a black couple (Actors) in the park arguing while the (black) husband also pretend to beat his (black) wife with something like a belt in his hand. Many people (it seems mostly white) passed by and did nothing except look and walked away. They mentioned some called the police and said “these people are fighting in our park”. They also showed a few white males telling the (black) husband “this is not the time or the place” etc.. Now, they were rolling tape for 5 hours to see if anyone would really step up. Eventually a white female innocent by-stander came to the black woman’s support.

Back at the Oprah studio, they mentioned they did previous experiments where the fighting couple were white, and one thing people surly didn’t say while calling the police was “these people are fighting in the park”, nor… did they tell the white husband “this is not the time or the place”. They also mentioned that because this was an African American couple, and by saying “this is not the time or the place”, those people practically felt he should beat his (black) wife in the privacy of their own home. That sums it up.

Now, this was very hurtful and it angered me. It just goes to show. It’s obvious society (even those particular white men) clearly showed no interest because the beaten wife was a black female. I have a strong feeling these men would have been more protective if the victim was a white female especially if the abuser was a black male. I guess it’s ok the beat black women. I’m finally so proud of Oprah actually airing this out tonight.

Did anyone else see it?

#29 g-e-m2001 on 04.23.08 at 6:06 pm

Well the Abortion man story is spreading. Racialicious, Jezebel and Salon all did posts about it so the ripples keep going out further.

We will be talking about “Abortion Man” and a slew of news this week involving black women. Star Jones’ divorce, Juanita Bynum goign on Divorce court, Robin Roberts takes off her wig (Again) on GMA and Michelle Obama.

People think Abortion Man is disgusting, the question is how to you confront and deal with it without giving Wayans any of the attention he so craves. Or should we even care whether he gets any attention?
You can call in tomorrow at 8:00Pm CST to 646-478-4750. Our topic will be whether Black women can get any love in any type of media?

I applaud the level of discourse and adherence to the topic at hand.

Damon Wayans proves with this stunt that he is not only classless, untalented, unfunny, moronic and vile but also a cosigner to the degradation, vilification and subjugation of black women.

#34 Larry on 04.24.08 at 10:26 pm

Not only black women at youtube.com hate him, but also black women at POZGROUP.COM, which is a community constructed exclusively to help people afflicted with STDs find partners for love and happiness.

#35 MysTery on 04.25.08 at 12:02 pm

Wow. And I mean WOW.

Doesn’t he have kids? Did he really think this one through?

#36 lena on 04.25.08 at 6:32 pm

I think the best thing that you can do is when you go on youtube, you “Flag” the video (the little icon in the lower right hand corner underneath the video) and this signals youtube that people find it too offensive to show. i’ve flagged other videos and youtube removed them.

I flagged this one too and left the reason why but unfortunately, it has now been viewed by so many people that it may be too late for flagging to work. but if everyone who finds it unacceptable does this now, there may still be a chance to get it removed.

#37 ChelB on 04.26.08 at 4:51 pm

This video is beyond low and uncouth! : ( He has completely lost his mind in my opinion. I’ve never been a big Damon Wayans fan to be honest because he was never funny to me. Personally, I always thought there was something “not right” about him from way back. I think it has to do with his eyes. This video only proves it, but in a sad and pathetic way. Goodness, the things some people will do for money aka to pay a mortgage.

#38 RockNRollSista on 04.29.08 at 8:11 pm

This can not be ignored. The abuse of black women or women in general is not funny.

#39 ShannonGreen on 05.01.08 at 7:14 pm

That is so funny, yet so true. I think a lot of these baby makers need to be punched in the stomach or at least given norplant. They are breeding out of control, like rats.

#40 Miss GypsyEyes on 05.02.08 at 4:00 pm

I have to say that, while I find the video offensive, I think AverageBro is right. People spend way too much time and energy getting all riled up and forwarding emails, signing petitions, and other such nonsense. No doubt Wayhead was out of line but he’s at 14:55 he’s got to do something. If you want to make a difference be PROactive and not REactive. Forwarding emails, and signing petitions may make you feel better about yourself but if you know anything about the internet you know that those things are worthless, useless and a big waste of time. If we are as outraged by this as we claim to be then tomorrow is Saturday go to the YMCA and see if they need help coaching or something. Find out where the homeless shelter for teens is in your area and go talk to them a few times a week(or even better LISTEN to them.) Go volunteer at an inner city school in a classroom full of young black men and women with no male role models. The only way to fight ignorance is to combat it with positivity, I believe the phrase is “each one, teach one.” Blasting YouTube or Wayhead publicly only makes him seem like he’s still got something, the man has about 5 more minutes of fame left, why not just watch the clock roll down in silence and then party when his time is up.
